This is an update specifically in regards to the upcoming Ultima Online video for those who are interested. First of all, I really appreciate everybody who hopped on the server, even those who only fired the game once or twice. I recognize that it's a bit obtuse for modern tastes, but it was incredi

Edit: This post is now available to free members of my Patreon too. As many of you are already aware, the Ultima Online video is coming next. How do you recreate a chaotic 1999 MMO experience where players murder each other over natural resources? Why, you start a private server which allows you to

Better 3 years late than never! The video was a lot of fun to make, so I hope you enjoy it. See you in 3 years for Dark Dawn. Vimeo Link: https://vimeo.com/1187540418/7cc71d8ec9?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci

To whomst'veso it may concern, Hi everyone, hope you're doing great. I'm working on the next video right now and just wanted to get an update out there. Some people may remember that this next video is going to be follow up to Golden Sun. It still is! However, I originally planned on it being both T

The FMV weirdness continues with Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time! It's an oddball piece of historical fiction from a largely forgotten 90s PC game developer called "Cyberflix". Though edutainment at its core, AOOT is far from boring... And there's something about its lonesome, otherworldly atmosphere

The moment we've all been dreading has arrived. Ultima VIII is here! We've got a lot of history and context to work through in this one, so it's another beast. As always, piecing together the narrative based on years of magazine articles and interviews is a fun challenge. I hope you enjoy the video!

Let's round off the holiday season with some festive shame! I've mentioned a few times over the years how I've actually been making game reviews since the early days of YouTube. Well, for your viewing pleasure(?), I've unearthed that which ought not to be unearthed. So fix yourself a rum punch, hot

TRY THIS LINK IF YOU CAN'T SEE THE VIDEO https://vimeo.com/1147155719/b1a9d923e7?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci After trying and failing to upload this gigantic video file to Patreon twice, I just embedded here via Vimeo. Let me know if you have any trouble watching. Honestly it seems way better than the bu

Howdy folks, I'm usually not a fan of doing these minor updates where the entire purpose is to let you know that I'm alive, but I figured it might be appropriate here. We've passed the two month mark since the last video dropped, which is a longer gap between videos than I prefer. To cut to the chas

Yet another project I figured would be small-ish that became a behemoth, Serpent Isle ended up being the vessel through which I could begin to talk about the assassination of Origin by the coward Electronic Arts. As such, there's a lot of history and background information wrapped into this one. The

Hey everyone, I don't have a ton of new stuff to update you on, but I just wanted to touch base and let you know that I'm still chugging away on the next video. I initially thought Serpent Isle would be a fairly simple project, since I covered most of the engine nuances in the Ultima VII video. WOW

Today we're reviewing a whole bunch of King's Field-adjacent games. Taking a look at OG Fromsoft games like Eternal Ring, modern indie titles like Lunacid, and nearly forgotten oddities like the Japan-only Hungry Ghosts. This video runs the gamut. I hope it's as interesting to watch as it was to put

Howdy Patrons! It's been a minute since the last update, so I figured I'd fill everybody in on the video topics I've been kicking around the old noggin. First of all, I'll probably continue with this "one video Ultima, one video not-Ultima" thing I've been doing this year. Seems to be a good balance

Hey folks, so this is very nearly the final version. This version excludes the credits, and there are a couple of very minor editing errors to clean up (stuff that my girlfriend didn't even notice when we watched it back). So this is essentially the "final cut". There are a few logistical things I n

Man, the Build engine has so much to offer... do we really want to stop at TekWar? I sure don't. That's why I'm digging into the history of Build to bring you, my illustrious Patrons, a savory collection of Build Engine game minireviews! Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior, and many more. I'll atte

9 books, 4 movies, a comic book series, 18 episodes of a TV show, and one notorious video game later, the TekWar retrospective is done and dusted! Should be available on YouTube by tomorrow if I don't get copyright dinged. Enjoy!

Howdy folks, this is episode 2 of our music podcast. Didn't quite manage to polish off every track, so we'll have a few more for next time. https://youtu.be/zFY3FuPp2D4 If you're wondering specifically whether or not your track was covered in this episode, here's a list of what we went through: Gran

3 exports later, this one is finally in the can. Adobe Premiere wasn't playing nice. Adobe programs never play nice. Anyway here it is! I know a lot of Ultima fans in particular were looking forward to this one. I know I was. After plenty of writing, editing, and making goofy renders in Blender, I s

Howdy Patrons, Mere moments ago I made a Dark Cloud video public. Sorry for not being communicative about it up until this point, but the video was meant to be a surprise for my buddy! I didn't really want to write out an update and have emails/notifications sent to everyone just for me to ambiguous

I've been keeping this one a secret for a little while, but here's the latest video! It turns out that playing two VERY LONG games back to back is a huge undertaking. Go figure huh?

Told you I'd get one more video out this year! After several back-to-back 16-hour editing sessions, I'm pleased to present the Ultima Underworld retrospective. This version has a few VERY minor editing errors compared to what'll end up on YouTube, but I figured it wasn't worth reuploading the entire

Hey folks, threw together a reflection video for the end of the year. To preface, the "editing" here is minimal to say the least, so this could be a good one to listen to while you're doing chores, going for a walk, or playing Bubble Bobble. In this video, I talk about each of my videos from 2024 (a

Get it while it's hot, nice long video to cap off the weekend (or make the work week a little better if you feel like saving it). Hope you enjoy the video!

Hey folks, I mentioned a while ago that I would put up all of the tracks that Uncle Willy has composed for my videos. I wish I could offer them all in a high quality lossless format, but a lot of the source files have been lost. For the most part these are 320kbps MP3s which should be serviceable to

Hot off the presses, it's the first episode of our music podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3S6XSCgfG4 When I said that I wasn't sure if we'd be able to make it through every submitted track... that was an understatement. We're already looking forward to regrouping and making it through the t

Just going over some stuff regarding next video(s) and the music podcast. TL;DR I've been sick which has annoyingly been preventing me from recording narration for the next video for like a week. Been taking the opportunity to chip away at other stuff. Hoping my voice is sounding better in the next

This video was supposed to be like, 90 minutes, but I kept stumbling across new games to talk about and... well, you know the drill by now. Go big or go home. Hope you enjoy this spooky October special! Note: The video was processing as of the posting of this on Patreon. I don't know if Patreon aler

Howdy folks, Hope you enjoyed/will enjoy the Ultima VI video. I know I'd mentioned in an earlier update that I'll be diving straight into Worlds of Ultima as my next video, but I just realized that it's autumn. You know what that means, don't you? AN EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT FMV HORROR GAMES FROM THE 90

Enjoy the video!

Hey there folks. Just wanted to give a brief update on what's coming next. The first draft of the Ultima 6 script is finished, which means I've just got to give it another pass or two before recording begins, then editing, then Ultima 6! I'd imagine we're looking at a release somewhere in the middle

You thought I was Saturned out after the Saturn RPG video? I hadn't even BEGUN to scratch surface of the Saturn's innate weirdness! However, with this Patreon™ Exclusive™ Bonus™ Video™? I believe I have, at the very least, scratched that surface. Thanks for being there for the channel. I hope you en

Aaaand here we have it! A collection of reviews, impressions and analyses on a whack of Sega Saturn RPGs. This video wasn't originally going to be such a long 'un, but I really ended up loving some of these games and had plenty to say about them as a result. I hope you enjoy the video! (P.S. Expect

Hey folks, I figured that, since there hasn't been an update in a month or so, I'd chime in to let you know how the Sega Saturn video is going. ITS LONG I'm just finishing up the first draft of the script. Under normal circumstances, I'd be well into editing by now... but these aren't normal circums

Hey folks, figured this would be a good time for the sorta-monthly-but-not-really update. As mentioned in a previous update, I'll be taking a small break from Ultima to do a video about some RPGs on the Sega Saturn. Think a series of smaller reviews ala the 3DO video. The games I'll be covering in t

Editing marathon over! I hope you enjoy the video. It's time to relax and play some Sega Saturn games.

Hey folks, just wanted to give a quick update. Firstly, I just finished a Q&A video. You can find it here: https://youtu.be/bQp5812bl_I This is meant to take the place of the end credits Q&A since I'm trying to tighten those up a bit. Some of the questions and topics are fun enough that I want to gi

I really hope you enjoy this video! It was probably the most research, writing & editing work I've ever done, but I had a great time putting it together.

Having reviewed Shadowgate here on Patreon, I figured I'd take a look at it's seldom-discussed follow up released for the N64. JUST FOR YOU GUYS!!

Howdy folks, it's been a while since I did a Patreon update so I wanted to let people know how everything is going. You can probably guess from the title that the next video in the works is for Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar. This is regarded as one of the single-most important RPGs ever made, so I'

Here's the Shadow Tower retrospective! This version on Patreon is ad-free. If you prefer, here's the YouTube link (although this one does have ads) https://youtu.be/NOzDZUXT_VI I'm planning a Patreon update in the next couple of days so stay tuned!

Episode III of the Ultima Retrospective is here for your viewing pleasure! And now it's onward to Shadow Tower before returning for Quest of the Avatar. Here's a YouTube link for those who prefer it: https://youtu.be/N_m3u9MZ8NU

Hey everybody, figured it'd be a good time for an update what with the new Patrons and all. First of all, thanks for all the support. Akalabeth/Ultima I I wasn't the best performing video, so I didn't really know what to expect but UItima II has had some good viewership and really positive feedback!

Here's episode 2 of the Ultima Retrospective series. I hope you enjoy it! I retooled some of the Patreon benefit recently. Specifically, I made "Early Access to videos" a catch-all perk for Titans. Having that split into shorter and longer videos didn't really make sense anymore, given that all of m

Hey folks. As some of you know, I did a podcast several months ago for I Finished A Video Game's Patreon where he, Sean Seanson & I discussed our experiences playing through Vagrant Story. It was very casual and fun, but I think we had a pretty interesting conversation (and some meta conversations).

Hello Patrons! This is a stocking stuffer, as it were. Some content to tide you over until the new year when I come back with the next part of my Ultima series. Today, I'm taking a look back at an NES adventure game with some horror elements that really stuck with me over the years. In doing so, I r

Howdy everyone! It's been far too long since I've done an update, so with the new year upon us, I figured it'd be fun to reflect on my channel's year, video by video. Before that, I just want to say the usual thank you for your continued support of my channel. Your help is what makes years like this

Here's the final cut for Part I of my Ultima retrospective/documentary! This series is more of a historical look, still interspersed with humor & stupid edits, but largely more "serious" than other videos I've done. I've still got all kinds of content I'm planning on making, so these videos aren't a
