PATRON UPDATE: A minor change of plans
Howdy folks,
Hope you enjoyed/will enjoy the Ultima VI video. I know I'd mentioned in an earlier update that I'll be diving straight into Worlds of Ultima as my next video, but I just realized that it's autumn. You know what that means, don't you?
AN EXCUSE TO TALK ABOUT FMV HORROR GAMES FROM THE 90S
We're going to make a brief detour into the world of FMV & digitized horror once again. Last year's Halloween project was Dark Seed, but this year I think I'm going to cover several games, including Phantasmagoria and Night Trap. None of them individually are really substantive enough to make a whole-ass video about, but the entire FMV craze is a really fun topic, so I figured I'd just talk about a bunch of them. Expect something vaguely historical with periodic lighthearted riffing. And spine-tingling horror, obviously.
I'll be working on this alongside the Ultima Worlds video, so they should release relatively close together.
As always, thanks for your support! Let me know in the replies if there's a particular FMV horror game you'd like to see.

Saw you just posted on Twitter about it, but Noctropolis 😎
Ha, I called Phantasmagoria couple of months ago on one of your Streams.
Loving the Ultima series so far. Really well done mix of game critique, industry history and humour. Also I think there’s a possibility you may have acquired my old copy of Ultima V’s Book of Lore - I wrote the Stones code in mine when I was a kid. Did you get it in Manitoba?
I did!! I had it sent to a family member in winnipeg. Looks like the seller was based out of Arizona, was that you??
Super Eyepatch Wolf gave you a badass, lengthy shoutout in his list of his favorite things he got into from the past year. Also he mentioned there’s a spiritual successor to the cd-I Zelda games that kinda looks fucking amazing, if you haven’t seen it: Arzette: The Jewel of Faramore *they hired the original voice actors!!!!*
The 7th Guest has always been a favorite of mine. The acting is really hammy and it has an awesome midi soundtrack.
Oh hell yes
I still think that the pattern of Ultima video - something else - Ultima video is probably the best. So yeah, looking forward to some weird Halloween goodness
Oh man, the wait for Ultima VII is going to be so worth it once it arrives. Absolutely adoring your Ultima series. I think I might need to play Martina Dreams and Savage Empire in anticipation of your next videos. Nostalgia note... I remember hanging out in Future Shop (Canada's version of Best Buy back in the day) and would sit and watch the Savage Empire demo screen on the latest and greatest 486s dreaming of the day I would be able to play it for real. Another FMV horror entry to consider is 7th Guest.
I know Future Shop well! Their commercials always used a riff from the song Money City Maniacs by the Nova Scotian band Sloan. Thanks for the kind words, that's an awesome memory. If you put the pedal to the metal, you can probably jam through the games before the video releases.
PEEEEEEEEEEENIIIIIIIII
frankenstein through the eyes of the monster babey
100% holding my breath for the next month in the hopes of Phantasmagoria
Darkseed is still my favorite video of yours and I love anything that has to do with the FMV fever of the 90s, so this definitely has me stoked
Ah ... further delaying Ultima VII, my favourite game of all time, and thus the point where I'm either going to hate you or love you at a whole new level. (for the record: just kidding, that kind of fanaticism is silly). And as to your question -- it's at least horror adjacent, so: Ripper. My introduction to Christopher Walken, Blue Öyster Cult and the distinction between puzzle difficultly and terrible design. I'm really surprised it doesn't get mentioned more, given how wonderfully over the top it is populated by scene-chewing 'real' actors.
Anticipation of joy is truly the greatest joy there is... Definitely considering Ripper. I know Dungeon Chill has covered that one recently, so I'll go ahead and recommend that since YouTube analytics tells me we have an almost identical audience.
I fully support this. Moar FMV!
As a horror fan who loves fmv schlock I am in FULL SUPPORT of this detour 💀🫱🆗‼️
