This time myself, Kit, and Daniel chat about the last story in the collection The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, 'The Adventure of the Copper Beeches', and... holy shit is this story is a doozy. One of the greatest, most fascinating, and most disturbing stories in the Holmes canon. Consequently, I t

In which myself, Daniel, and Kit, have a surprisingly fruitful conversation about a lesser-known but enjoyable second-tier Holmes tale. Subjects include wooden legs, snow prints, the nature of the detective story, ACD's 'ticks', passive aggressive fathers (and sons), social respectability and disgra

The gang returns for a very fun episode examining a story in which Sherlock Holmes 'helps' an snobbish English aristocrat who gets mysteriously cucked by a (possibly Native) American 'tomboy'. We like this one.

After far too long a hiatus (sorry) my favourite bit-of-fun side-project - in which myself, Daniel, and Kit go through the Sherlock Holmes stories one by one - returns. This time we tackle little-known oddity The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb. Never filmed (as far as I know) and seldom talked-ab

Myself, Kit, and Daniel reconvened to record episodes of BSI - on The Engineer's Thumb and The Noble Bachelor - which will be along soon. In the course of warming up we had a preliminary chat which we also recorded and decided to release for our patrons - and probably only ever our patrons. It's abo

The team of myself, Kit Power and Daniel Harper returns to take a look at another of Sir(!) Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories, and it's one of the biggies... and goodies... and weirdies... The Speckled Band. Definitely no strange and dark sexual undercurrents in this one, oh ho n

Christmas! Mutant geese! Race science! This story has it all!

BSI returns with Kit Power and myself - and Daniel, joining the show as a regular co-host - talking about one of the 'big ones', The Man With the Twisted Lip, a story that hides a lot of fascinating stuff under its deceptively simple hood. A really good episde with lots of laughs. Thanks and kudos t

Hooray! Backer Street Irregulars returns! (With apologies about the lengthy gap since the last episode.) This time, Kit and I are joined by a very special guest... Daniel Harper from little known podcast 'I Can't Speak Nazi' (or something?). We asked Daniel aboard because he's - as you all know - an

Kit Power and myself find a surprising amount to say about The Boscombe Valley Mystery, the fourth Sherlock Holmes short story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A lesser effort perhaps, but one with some great aspects and all sorts of interesting ramifications for the rest of the series. Once again, exclus

Again, exclusive for Patreon backers of myself or Kit Power, our continuing series about our re-read of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. This time, we look at two stories, one classic followed by the first outright dud of the canon... but both interesting. I'm really proud of this series. It's

This is a really good episode, I think. Kit and I delve into the ambiguities and ambivalences of this fascinating story, surely one of the greatest Holmes stories. (It's the one with Irene Adler in it.)

The clue is in the title.

So, myself and Kit Power are recording an irregular podcast about our ongoing re-read of Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories for Patreon backers only. Hence the very clever title 'Backer Street Irregulars'. You can get exclusive access to the two episodes already posted, and the fo

In this episode of The Backer Street Irregulars - exclusive, as ever, for Patreon patrons of myself and/or Kit Power - Kit and I discuss the first ever Sherlock Holmes story A Study in Scarlet.

The first episode in a new podcast series in which I chat with my brilliant friend Kit Power about our recent return to the original Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. Exclusive for Patreon supporters of Kit and/or myself. Enjoy.
