I tried out some new products at the table and have some fun ideas for what to do next. I've decided to become my best self, so I'm currently asking around about what New Zealand a

[No new episodes! Wop wop!] Sorry gang, I tried, but I needed a break. ARMING SWORDS TO ZWEIHANDERS Jason will be back in the office tomorrow and we can start putting together the quote, ISBN number and other requirements for the print run. Hi gang, I couldn't make it up in time for Auckland Armageddon, but some things you might be keen to know about: Jason Anarchy, who I made Dazzling Dungeon Decks with this year, will be tabling. I also did some guest art for Cats Vs. Human last year. Go say hi! You can pick up a copy of Swords: Cut

Hi all This year has kicked my butt in a lot of ways. I have a lot to do and I lot I still owe people. Swords needs to keep growing because it's my primary income now and other revenue streams like Makeship and Webtoon have fallen behind. I'm not going to ask for a boost without doing the work, so m

The Beginners' Blade has 4 days left - this is the extended date, so now is your very last chance to grab one. I will grab a few myself if I need to, to help get it over the line, so don't think about that part too hard - just order one if you want one! I am now taking preorders on the physical copy

I'm taking a break from finishing X, Y and Z until after I have fixed anything people don't like about the current batch of episodes. I'm put in a position where I'm being asked to make these into a book, but if I release it with the current complaints unresolved, I'll be hearing them forever - and

It is Wednesday, my dudes, and I have never missed a Sunday News drop in 2 full years - so I think I owe you a smaller, late update. I will be doing a table for SWORDS: CUT THE DECK at the New Zealand Game Developers Conference. [6 new SWORDS episode] What a productive week it's been! People are really enjoying Arming Swords To Zweihanders, so I'm working hard on it. I'm trying to keep the animal choices grounded in what I consider "garden variety", so don't expect a Hippopotamus any time soon. I'm not gonna try to squeeze

[1 new SWORDS episode] I spent some time with friends this week. I finally put some feelings I've been keeping to myself for a long time into words. Definitely good for me. In the last couple of weeks I've been posting to 8+ subreddits religiously at 9:45 am and pm, and scheduling Facebook posts 4 t

Qwest? Qwest! Swordtember is coming up! I'm going to make a comic every!! day!!! Some years I make it all the way to the end. Others I fall a little short. The extra constraint has led to some of my favourite episodes - I'd like to do it without any distractions. You can help with that by upgrading

[1 new SWORDS episode] I have waged war on AI slop this week. Specifically, YouTube dubs of my work that are using AI in their thumbnails: A lot of drama, a lot of begging, throwing other accounts under the bus, genuine attempts at bribery - which all just goes to prove once again that my work is su

It's now AUGUST which means we only have a few weeks to put together a new Swordtember list. I try one of these lists almost every year and so far I only finished the 2019 Inktober list, but it still generated some of my favourite episodes! I'll do my best!! So... give me some prompts! I'll put some

[1 new SWORDS episode] Our 100th weekly newsletter! Whoa!! Today I am missing out on Auckland Zinefest, the 48Hour Film Contest, Webcomicon and GenCon. [1 new SWORDS episode] Earlier this week I asked for 100 prompts that I can roll a D100 on and do each time I get a new patron. Adding a little bit of novelty is just a bit more fun than me blabbing on about charts and metrics. I have 44 responses ready to go so far so I'll start doing them from the

Just for fun, I'm going to write down 100 tasks on pieces of paper and do a random one each time I get a new paid patron. I'll report back during my Cutting News! updates. Please give me a quest below. Something small like "drink a glass of water" or "write a poem" or "draw a lore chart about Krog's

[1 new SWORDS episode] I broke my two week no-sugar streak. My weight dropped a little, but I need to pair it with exercise next time. I'll pick it up again on Thursday. I've been meaning to get a general check-up for a while now, but I should make a solid attempt at improving my health on my own fi

I've set up a collection plate on Ko-Fi to work on Steel Tribe next year, instead of picking up more contract work This has inevitably come with a lot of feedback, so I'm going to address some things: Why will it take you 6 months? Because I want it to be really, really good and I'm already committe

[2 new SWORDS episodes] I will be moderating a panel on Visual Art In TTRPGs featuring Tim Denee, Paul Tobin and StacyLongstreet. Tomorrow on Twitch! See you there! A short comic from long ago

[2 new SWORDS episodes] The week started with some mild food poisoning, but I defeated it like a champ. I've been sugar-free all week and everything from my eyeballs to my ankles have been experiencing odd pains while my body adjusts. It doesn't help that Wellington is crazy cold right now. I've als

The Demon King's Goblin form has metal teeth, which isn't very apparent here. Xiphos' is acting a bit out of character here because the episode had to mention a sword somewhere. It's not fully apparent in the rest of the story that Baltad's Blade is something that Xiphos' takes issue with King Hilto

The Lake Knight was going to be a lot more of a prominent character, but once she was revealed to be Harpe it sort of went nowhere. I found her kneepads hard to draw. Generally considered the most confusing episode of the series, because it's just story stuff happening in isolation. On the world map

The Infinity Sword is gold as a homage to the Ducktales episode where the Golden Goose covers the world in a contagious wave of gold. This is a shameless Final Fantasy X reference, including all the unnecessary belts. The short-haired orc in the sweater was a very small nod to a real friend who has

Should I be focused on aggressively growing the Swords Patreon so I can increase the amount of Swords projects I'm working on at any given time; or should I take more creative contracts from other people to expand my reach/contacts/reputation/industry-knowledge? My weekly newsletter leans a bit heavily on talking about products and I don't think that's really what a lot of you are here for, so I'm just consolidating some thoughts here about who I am, what I'm doing and what I want to accomplish. If you already read my Sunday newsletters none of this should

This is the second version of this comic - I had to add his lower half on the ground because people were confused why he was "suddenly standing at a table eating a steak dinner". This episode is also censored on Webtoon. In the back of my mind I kept telling myself not to bring time travel into the

I actually posted the first episode twice! I posted this less polished version on Twitter a few days before posting the polished one to Reddit, which went a little bit viral and kicked off the series proper. You might have noticed in these early episodes, I was hand-writing all of the dialogue. It g

[5 new DREAM TEAM SUPREME episodes] I had family visiting this week and they helped me patch a bunch of drafts around the house, so I'm pretty sure the place is 2 or 3 degrees warmer now on average.
