Episode 32.5: The Mask of Zorro
We finally found it: a movie so horny that three trans people wasn't enough to properly discuss it. So we called in friend of the show and all three hosts of the show, Mattie Lubchansky!
The film is Zorro, by the way. The 1998 antonio banderas one where a shirtless anthony hopkins whips out the flames of a candelabra and Devon has heart palpitations. Can you tell I'm caring less and less about the copy on these as time goes by?

"What nonbinary means to me is when I dress like a 1970s male sex symbol but using they/them pronouns" Wait, fuck *looks at closet* oh shit...
“This is a ‘Ha-HA!’-ass movie” is perhaps the greatest film review ever, and it has not left my mind for days.
Late to it, but casting a Welsh actress as a Spanish woman makes sense to me. If she's nobility, she'd likely be Spanish rather than Mexican. Also, Wales has a lot of Spanish influence, hence the very dark haired, freckly/more olive skinned Welsh people - due to Bronze Age and earlier (I think) trade routes up the coastline.
This classic episode has me in two minds as to whether or not I'd like to see a swashbuckler season. On the one hand they could do pirates, Abby could talk about the merits of revenge with the Count of Monte Cristo, Devon can rant about how Erroll Flynn was a Nazi, November can talk about the merits of rapper vs cavalry sabre etc. But on the other hand they might become so collectively consumed with animalistic lust that the news story would end "... before turning the squirt bottle on themself."
"We used to have explosive cougars in California." -Chief Iron Eyes
The casting really does seem like the setup to a mediocre Monty Python skit: The Mask of Zorro, presented by the Cardiff Community Theatre
i really get devon on being nonbinary is dressing like a 1970s sex symbol but using they/them because my method of being nonbinary is dressing like a 1940s starlet and using it/its. sometimes you are a haunted picture of doris day that stepped out of the frame.
I'm with Devon on this one, never realized Catherine Zeta Jones WASN'T hispanic. Especially because she looks exactly like my latina wife (who is very white passing)
Oh my god…the cougar explosion is the spiritual ancestor to the donkey explosion but of Rambo…
man it sucked when my fellow 5 joachims gang member joachim got his head dropped into a barrel of wine
This is the ep that made me sign up. I just had to listen to Alice react to all the horny
Its not a Z that old Zorro carves into Monterro's neck in the opening scene. It's a "3". "3 men, 3 guards - a small memnto of Mexico"
I mean he does literally carve a Z though. He just says that the three cuts are for the three men
Oh hell yes. Mask of Zoro and Blade are my two favorite 90's action movies.
Almost irrelevant but I watched the Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus again recently and the model work in that film is sick. I fully endorse love of models, stop motion and glass painting.
If anyone wants to see a great youtube analysis of how this is the horniest movie ever, watch Patrick Willem's video on it. https://youtu.be/LdQHKQ26Wnk
I've never seen this movie and you have convinced me that I must rectify this error IMMEDIATELY. Question about the future of the podcast: once you have finished killing Jason Bourne, would a "Kill Ethan Hunt" arc become a possibility? I think there's an argument to be made that Mission Impossible is a better modern-day Bond series than modern-day Bond is.
I think the facial hair thing probably plays both into "the old ways" and also a class thing but I do agree that nowadays the loss of facial hair is just tragic.
This episode has taught me that I have irreversibly tangled together The Mask of Zorro and The Princess Bride, to the point where I had to listen to this twice and have the Wikipedia page for the film open to keep track of the narrative. Great episode as always, well worth the back-to-back double listen <3
Love the Boonta Vista style opening
Dead from the intro, never stop, also I saw Kate on Netflix and kinda loved it and thought you lot would have fun ripping on it. The apartment fight is the peak of the film
This was the straw that broke my back onto the patreon, ilu ty
I’m in Atlanta and I’ve never heard of this person. And if he was in Black clubs he’d get his ass beat off rip
This film has my favorite kind of neck break technique. When Old Zorro escapes, he breaks a guard's neck, but it isn't even by making him look quickly to the right. He just holds the guy's chin for a second and then there's a cracking sound.
What is a Welsh anyway
One thing that always stuck with me is how Don Rafael is allowed a modicum of morality and standards that I don't think was very common for action movie villains at the time
Another uncommon thing: this decency does not get him excused at all. He still gets dropped off a cliff screaming. Which makes sense; he's only decent to his class. He still has random peasants enslaved and executed.
Swash? Buckled. Other swash? Also buckled. Ready to get on with the day
once again I am asking when is the Master and Commander episode and where will it be hosted, and why that location is aboard HMS Victory somehow
Boston live show in the Constitution
This is legit one of my top five favorite movies and I'm so glad you did it
Campaign to get Alice and Abi into historically accurate-ish whalebone stays (German synthetic whalebone, no baleen here)
Please guys I'm trying to listen to this at work and i canNOT keep a straight face with all these exploding pumas around
Connery would have been terrible in that role Hopkins took. Remember, Connery was RAMIREZ (RAH-MEER-ESH) in two Highlander movies where he was the most Scottish Spaniard of all time.
Who is hornier: Elena, or the Feral Girl from The Name of the Rose?
Love a podcast that recognises the inherent horniness of swordfights

When I get home from work I’m putting this movie on because I clearly forgot how much this film rocks.
This was great. This and (to a lesser degree) the 1973 three musketeers are two of my favorite movies in terms of fight choreography and sword play.
man they DON'T make movies that swashbuckle anymore, do they
Well, Connery did play a guy pretending to be a Spaniard in Highlander, so he would've had valuable experience.
He played an Egyptian working for the Spanish crown.
God i cannot wait to listen to this at work tomorrow
That episode art is RAD AS HELL
