S4E11: Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
So two weeks ago we attempted to recall the plot of You Only Live Twice from memory, after having last watched the movie in 2021. This week, we all watched the Nick Cage vehicle (get it) Gone in 60 Seconds a matter of days before recording and somehow remembered it even less.
Joining us is returning champion, friend of the show, photographer and automotive journalist Victoria Scott!

FREE PALESTINE
Hey, Devon here. As you well know I've been working with a few gazan families to raise money for their daily living costs in the genocide. We're putting all our energy into this one campaign as we have a real chance to get Ahmed and his family out of Gaza. Please, if you can help in any way, be that by donating yourself or sharing the link with friends and family, it will mean the world to me.

1:07:30 I don't fear the thousand women that would break me. (November is being a bad influence on me, I'm not even a lesbian, lol.)
This is where my ADHD ass being so behind on these is fun, because Delroy Lindo has since had one of the best roles in years
As a queer woman with a Subaru Outback named Dana (after the L Word), I think loving your car and talking to her is based and culture.
Devon's scream of agony around minute 20 regarding their total lack of memory confirmed this as one of the all-time great episodes, at least as far as "host is being tortured" is concerned
No mention of guy we love to see Timothy Olyphant as Cop Jr. trying to catch Albany NewYork with the power of racism and misogyny.
I long for the Triple X Episode
hey, so. The Handmaiden would fit the Robbery Szn. and have some interesting things to say re: treating women like objects, homosociality etc.
Everyday I wish for Nic Cage season of KJB
To see the Color from Colour out of Space branded as just a pinky purple?
I have heard the black people can't swim stereotype. It has a dark history. Not so much as a stereotype but why generations of black children in America weren't taught to swim up to the 1970s.
Doesn't it also trace itself back to desegregation and pools with black patrons being poisoned/acid thrown in them?
Y'all gotta do swordfish soon.
I'm delighted Victoria mentioned 'Josie and the Pussycats', one of my favourites. I'm genuinely a little surprised they haven't covered it as a bonus episode already.
goon in 60 seconds
"He puts on the whole armor of boosting"- underappreciated line
Fuck yeah, Best Of Toney M Compilation Album Vol. II: Crossing the States!
I'm surprised Duncan Idaho didn't make the name list
"fleshy pulsating muscle tubes that nestle around the teeth" - mentally picturing a Mind Flayer
Good episode gang 👍. Looking forward to the Jobs Italian perhaps. Also do the likes of National Treasure, Tomb Raider, and Indiana Joneses belong in heist season or History Mystery season or something? Also also you should probably invite Victoria back for a less racist movie next time.
the other guy who designed Eleanor's family spent like 20 years suing everyone who modified shelby GTs saying they had a trademark on junk mods
the oceans 11 (2001) of car chase movies. this is/was on tv like nearly all the time in the US
Satoshi Tajiri, creator of Gunsmith Cats, also an all time cars guy™
You’ve got to get Victoria back on to talk Death Race 2000
Camshaft
Aw yeah, loved the Gunsmith Cats mention.
idk if this is on your radar, but an episode about the movie amubuLAnce (2022) would be so great. directed by michael bay, jake gylenhaal attempts a bank heist and ends up hijacking an ambulance. atrocious mess of a movie, but it is still fun
Re the woodworking coffin making: boards are boards are boards, joints are joints are joints, you would use the same skills and techniques as cabinetry just with different plans and maybe cut angles. He probably also would have made a mockup out of a cheaper wood before attempting the final project, so he might be skilled, but it’s not as if he’d never done anything like it before
So I was 19 when this came out, the exact target audience, and I'm here to tell you that Angelina Jolie WAS the selling point of this movie. She was HEEEEAVILY marketed.
Gone In Sixty Seconds was a pivotal moment in my understanding that a movie can contain elements I like (Angelina Jolie, car chases, crime) and yet still be bad. A step on my way to having good taste. I enjoyed the episode, I remembered nothing except the song Low Rider.
I'm sorry, Devon is correct, the Boost (or as it is to me forever the Moro) is a perfectly decent bar.
In my continuing campaign to get you to do an episode on Bound (early Wachowski sisters film, incredible EXPLICIT lesbian protagonists, brilliant yet simple heist), I feel should mention that it DOES have multiple (lesbian) handjobs. Since that's what you're looking for now. 😉 It's also just a really good movie!
Holy shit I was literally coming here to make the same suggestion Bound 1996 is a robbery and Heist film.
Lightning McQueen x Nicholas Cage isn't something I ever wanted to picture, but here we are.
That setting was VERY Radiator Springs
I've been meaning to suggest The Ladykillers 2004 as a robbery/ heist film. I find it delightful and full of Guys We Love To See. https://images.app.goo.gl/3PvRg
The guy who directed this also Directed Swordfish (not a car movie) but does also prominently feature an HJ scene!
When the crew mentioned the Stephen Hunter review it sent me down a rabbit hole and was wondering, if you could fine an angle (genre, decade, something else), would anyone else like to hear a future episode related to SCUMing film critics?
You gotta do couple of Patreon episodes on Death Race and Death Race 2000. They're also both racist but I think the original is trying to be Toung and Cheek about it. There is a bit where the announcer says "and back by popular audience demand, NAZIS!!!" Which suggest a level of Saterical Piss Take on these kind of car films.
Listening to this while working with toxic substances in an unventilated college dorm room 👍
Studying for your safety third
I'm just imagining what if you had to watch a movie that takes place at an abbey in Devon during November.
Cadfael mini season, go!
My understanding is that the stereotype of Black people being unable to swim comes from the fact that they were banned from swimming pools and beaches and other places where they'd have an opportunity to learn how. NOT GREAT
I thought it was also a racially charged refrence to how Gorrillas could not swim.
I have been bombarded with more place that exists based names than I cared to know about
Wait if he’s weak to steel then he wouldn’t be grass type, so I guess he would be a Sudowoodo?
30:00ish…big fan of December Cornwall’s work, though.
Did we actually make it through this entire episode without a single Jackie Daytona from Tucson Arizonia reference?
Or Dani Californa
Its not a Mach 1 it's a 1973 Mustang
Devon I just want you to know that although every other host mistook November Rain for your co-host, I still got the jojolands reference
Thank you
I think we found KJB's "John Taliban." The Great Escapades of Melvis Bel & Frep (or Freb?)!
I love Nova’s Justin Roczniak moment when she begins to lose control of the podcast
Robert Duvall was in another Bruckheimer flick; Days of Thunder. He's all about driving the cars slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Delighted to hear the cries of joy for Christopher Eccleston - j'adore.
I don't know why, but the almost-sex scene between Angelina Jolie and Nicolas Cage in this film made me more viscerally uncomfortable than anything I've seen in a movie in a long time. And to clarify, I watched this film today after seeing the episode come out.
I ended up looking up their ages btw, Nicolas Cage was 37 when this came out I think, and Angelina Jolie was 25. Also I swear she looks just like Jaheira from BG3 in this.
Sorry, no Speed Racer until you do Vanishing Point (the 1971 original). With Victoria Scott, of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQ9ZvhWodEo
I had a thought about a season. Car/driving movies. Speed Racer, Vanishing Point, Two Lane Blacktop, Baby Driver, Cannonball Run, and Drive. But not the Fast and Furious Saga, that is a season unto itself.
Alexis Texas. Phoenix Marie... We're getting to know our hosts rather well 👍
did this mf really say wood type pokemon
Woodfinger? I hardly know her…. I’ll see myself out
Yay Victoria!
"Back when being into men was gay" is an incredible phrase.
Delroy Lindo AND Chi McBride?!
The original Gone in 60 Seconds is not a good movie and would be a terrible episode, and everyone should watch it.
Vanishing Point on the other hand.
1. november said you're moving from heist movies to car movies and i got scared, i need y'all to watch the national treasure movies! i'm dying to know how those watch from a non-american perspective. points in their favor: they have nicholas cage! in the second one they break into buckingham palace! definitely stuff to say about american masculinity and also whiteness! 2. i can't believe none of you called him hannah montana
Strongly seconding the Nat Treasure movies, they're great. I'd wager their clue-discovering process is better than Dan Brown's but probably not all that clever in hindsight. Hearing what Brits think of them would be interesting for sure
I look forward to the Tony Macaroni cut of this episode from the KJB Highlights channel.
I now need to see the original Gone In 60 Seconds.
Yoo, Victoria with the Gunsmith Cats shoutout
Mildly disappointed that they never discussed how the score has an angelic voice going "aaaahhhAAAAHH" every time Alexis Texas engages in foreplay with a car. That is stuck in my brain eternally.
Victoria episode 🎉
Are y'all gonna do Argo? It was kind of a heist movie and it seems like the kind of thing that would have many November digressions. I. Sure Abby's inside knowledge of the CIA would also be great
Abby was on Musicalsplaining and did Lindsay’s audiobook so she could reach out to Kaveh who, like every LA area Persian at the time apparently, has a role in it.
If these guys existed today they'd all be spending thousands of dollars a month on a niche SFM Patreon artist that made anthro cars fuck
Fucken sweet. The best movie ever to feature someone threatening a chair to make a bad guy back off; I can't wait to listen.
Oh, that's a VERY promising tag list.
YES YES YES YES YES
Absolutely not miffed at all that on Da Big Car List, ‘Rachel’ is a previous year model luxury sedan. The exotic and rare muscle cars I get, but why are they stealing some of these? Also, the GT500 is much cooler when it’s blue with white stripes
Patiently waiting for National Treasure to appear on heist season, an actually memorable Bruckheimer film that also has Nicholas Cage.
Yoo i used to watch this movie every week on my second hand iPod
Low Rider is a song from the 70's
Cool to know that Dev has the same automatic stimulus response ERB autism that I do
IF THERES ONE THING IVE LEARNED THIS GAME IS ABOUT MOTHER FUCKING MONEY
