This is just frickin' amazing! Excellent opening, solid buildup, startling reveal of DT, and then Bam, it launches into the stratosphere in the final act! Thank you for this wonderful gift, John!
As strange as it may sound, I loved seeing Dean Thompson again. That's something I never thought I'd feel.
same!
the giant asian hornet (p. 20) has a new name -- "northern giant hornet" -- because of xenophobia & anti-asian sentiment. i assume dean is the kind of person who would be aware of such a change; unclear whether or not dean is the kind of person who would care about it though. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/animals/article/murder-hornets-asian-giant-hornets-new-name
Thank you Paula. These pages were done before the edict came down last week! I will rename it for the webcomic, alas the PDF is out now and beyond saving.
Oh dang. Was just thinking about Glengarry Glen Ross yesterday--which is forever linked in my mind with Charlotte's performance thereof, back at school--and BAM you hit it again.
Fantastic!
Loved it loved it loved it. I made a loud noise when I recognised Dean. I'm really enjoying Solver.
But what is that peeking from atop the cupboard, page 4?
I think it might be another appearance of Chibi Vampirella's Chibi Vampirella.
Very good. Thank you for all your hard work sir!
I like the ending in magical rainbow hues compared to the stark black-and-white beginning. And that the magic extends to Lottie forgetting to get Glenn's name wrong.
I'm glad you spotted this little slip up on her part
OMG. Lottie and Glenn are living in 'The Backrooms'. I got the vibe from the yellow-grey walls but never made the connection until now. Must be gettin old mumble mumble.
Favourite panel? Claire flirt on the bus. Lead-filled sock to the feels.
I don't think I'd previously considered how "Jack Hughes" has a certain "je ne sais quoi" to it when directly below an outstretched digit, in a room that contains not just a Des Dopp kit, but also reading material evocative of a bus ride to come. And that's just one panel.
Oh my God. I have lost count of how many times I've laughed out loud reading this. And I'm not even done. I haven't actually laughed out loud this much at a comic since childhood, a quartet of miserable decades ago. Mr. Allison YOU HAVE OUTDONE YOURSELF. Or maybe that's the Dalwhinnie 15 talking. I mean, even if it is, we could just say, "Solver: Green Door -- best paired with two fingers of Dalwhinnie 15, neat."
DEAN THOMPSON
BUT WHERE'S PERKIN?
Fantastic story. I loved the black and white page.
And thinking about it after reading the whole thing, the contrast between the black and white page at the start and the multicolour rainbow pages at the end is very nice!
I loved how the Autumn special kept the characters, but opened the situation way up. Green Door takes that opportunity and runs with it. It's fun, unpredictable, beautifully structured and written, and gorgeously drawn and colored. Thank you, John.
Johnny you spoil us.
It's like everything I could have imagined. And none of it.
OH. MY. GOD....
