Commissions open... commissions closed

I don't really take commissions except in special circumstances or in times of penury, it's not the kind of drawing I enjoy. I can seldom find the emotion that underpins the illustration. But I did ten character drawings that I liked for the French Giant Days Kickstarter and here they are. I did the pencils on the computer then inked them by hand, circumventing my inability to draw a character in the correct position on a piece of paper leading to "ankle cut off" and "having to do it again".

These are great, ankles and all.

If I were going to ask for a personal commission, I might want Esther with an "I am Groot" shirt. Just the pic, not the text.

I totally understand a distaste for commissions *as such*. BUT! The more-or-less annual Desmond-Fish Library summer used-book fund-raiser date fast draws near! They have scraped by without a Desmond Fish-Man poster, year after year. Hoping you will find inspiration this year. (I will pay without quibble, sight unseen.) No pressure, of course; if not this year, maybe next.

Obviously I would turn out for the Desmond Fish Library whenever asked.

Timothee Chamalet gets an Ester and not moi?? J’accuse!

These are great. As much as I would love to have a framed wall art of Lottie looking angry at something, it's totally understandable that you don't like to spend energy on commissions. I have a couple miniscule convention doodles from John that I treasure.

Love Daisy playing the trumpet. I'm just going to sit here and pretend she's playing for me.

These are all quite gorgeous! I especially love the first Susie P.

There can be some overlap between the sets of (stuff people pay your for) and (stuff you wanna do). The WonderMark guy had a nice story of someone who wanted to commission Wondermark special for her husband. He started off not wanting to do this, but spotted a line-art picture that looked pretty much like the photo he had been sent, and worked from there. That is a good ending, but there are probably others. You will know when the muse gives you the thumbs-up. Wondermark has a new post, gaudeamus igitur. First one in ages. I knew they had a new child. Maybe it is sleeping though the night.

Perhaps it would be more enjoyable (and more profitable) if you opened commissions specifically for something you wanted to do, and then did a limited reproduction and signing for people who signed up. More money, more joy?

I totally understand that feeling. Commissions or even just one shot drawings aren't anything I've ever been able to muster up a passion for making. That said, I do love these, and would REALLY love an Allison original someday. I mean, I guess I do already have a couple doodles from you, but they're like, twenty years old and I feel like you've slightly improved as an artist.

I'm lightly improved
