S2E2.5: OSS 117: Lost in Rio
Long-time listeners may recall that for S1E3.5 we talked about the french spy parody movie 'OSS 117: Cairo, nest of spies'. Well with Abigail jetting off to Vidcon we have taken the time to invite along dear friend of the show Mattie Lubchansky to talk about its' sequel!
This is a movie that comes SO fuckin close to being one we can unreservedly recommend, but sadly it fails Hebdo's Gambit a few too many times.

To be entirely fair to the mossad scenes, they go down a bit better when you know Hazanavicius is jewish, and his brother actually plays one of the agents.
I desperately need to hear someone, anyone talk about The King's Man. Genuinely the most fucked movie I have ever seen and I am 57 minutes in. The whole Kingsman series is weird Ideologically™ but holy shit.
As above, not sure if you take recommendations here but I just rewatched Day of the Jackal and was reminded how great a film it is. Also stars the guy who played Drax in Moonraker and Roger mooooore was considered for the role of the Jackal
Dunno if you're taking recommendations here, but the guy that directed the Man From Hong Kong did a spy film about australian secret agents that are also movie stuntmen. It's called 'Deathcheaters' and it stars the dude jimmy wang yu threw into the fishtank.
Watched the trailer for this movie, and interestingly it ends with Hubert turning to address camera and saying 'coming to all good cinemas, if you like dancing and the chinese you'll love it' which is, i think an interesting peak behind the curtain of the films approach to race
the third movie wasn't great but it had surprisingly not awful politics, in a very cynical way
"Hebdo's gamble" is actually a very real Thing in French humour in the form of the Moebius double reach-around of prejudice that is "le second degré". Basically you just say racist shit and if you thought it was sincere then YOU'RE the racist
This is a movie with a lot of funny bits that I can't recommend, though I have got a lot of mileage out of the GIF I made of the secret nazi reveal
