honestly very strange listening to this as someone who watched this as a kid, realizing how fucked up it is to positively present torture in a scene in a kids movie and the real life politics that resulted in that.

James Marsters is one of my favorite VAs. He does the audiobooks for the Dresden Files series and he's fantastic. There is also a flubbed take in one, where he realized he read a line wrong, and then says Fuck before doing it again.

Several years back my 80-year-old Japanese mother in law started going to the movies each week just to get out of the house. This was one of the films she watched, choosing it just because it was the first one starting when she arrived. She came back and just said “I’m not sure what was going on, but it was loud.”

Homeward Bound, Babe, Charlotte's Web, just a few titles of movies where animals talk and humans cant understand them over Arthur and DW, whomst is just a first grader who cannot read.

How we know none of the trio have ever spent much time around a dog that wasn't neutered or was only neutered later in life: They're baffled at the idea of dogs doing sexual harassment.

I know I should leave the overanalyzing of children's movies to the professionals. But still, I can't help but notice the stark difference between the protagonist/viewpoint character from the original Cats and Dogs and its sequel. Lou was presented as a child on the cusp of adulthood, who's flaw (that ends up being their strength) is a naïve faith in the goodness of the world and the importance of doing what's right even when it isn't what's smart. Whereas, from y'alls telling, Diggs is a somewhat grizzled adult who's flaw (that ends up being their strength) is being an impulsive sadist. Yeesh. What a difference a decade makes.

I have been OBSESSED with the Shirley Bassey cover for YEARS, and I had no idea it was in this movie, so this was moment was such a treat for me, specifically!

I remember hating the movie when I watched it as a kid because cats were my favorite animal and they were always the bad ones in movies. (Because often dogs or mice were the heroes so it was the easy solution... I guess). BUT I thoroughly enjoy listening to you taking this apart lmao.

I saw the comments about Abi doing some kind of surprise voice but nothing could have prepared me for that. Still catching my breath, jesus christ. Kill James Bond? More like Kill Your Audience, amiright?

On the topic of kids films featuring Bond actors, you should look into Sir Billi, it is a horrifying animation featuring none other than Sean Connery and it is also his last film its just so cursed.....

It's very funny that the theme park in this movie is literally just called "Playland" - that's a real theme park, about six blocks from the house I grew up in, and where that part of the movie was shot. My old brother was an extra and is visible in the background of at least one scene.

if i remember correctly, one of the other movie's plot (i think the one with jeff goldbulm) was a cat attemping to make all humans allergic to dogs so theyd get rid of them like kitty's plan

From horror at hearing a sentient being pleading not to be tortured, to utter delight at Shirley Bassey's cover... and then some emotion I really can't name when Abi did her spot-on impression of some YouTuber.... Abigail's party trick absolutely killed me. The few seconds where my brain was trying to figure out what the hell was going on felt like several minutes, and then I had to pause because I was laughing too hard to hear the episode.
