End of month progress report
This update is quite a bit late, sorry about that.
A new RPG came out recently that I've been playing, and being an RPG I kinda just loose track of time. That's not to say I haven't been working on the patches though, I make sure to spend a few hours each day chipping away at it. Though the last few days I may have started to over do it a bit, working on things well past midnight... oops.
Another reason for things taking longer than intended is that I keep running into roadblocks trying to make the equipable moveset code more stable. As stated in a previous report, I did have the basic moveset loading code done, but it was basically the older code I made just updated to the recent game version which meant that some of the bugs and crashing issues were still present. (on top of the code just being a mess in general...)
I can be a bit of a perfectionist, for better or for worse, so a lot of time the past week or so was spent researching how the game even loads data from the CMS (the file that contains data for what files a moveset for a character uses) so that I can write code that is more stable, easier to read, and less likely to crash. I looked into how it does things in the story mode, quests, for NPCs, the character select screen, ect. It's quite a bit more complex than one might think, with the game sometimes doing things slightly differently in different game modes. It makes finding consistent ways to properly edit the data to load the custom movesets a challenge.
In the video you can see a bit of my maddness in the notes I keep in my notepad as well as the current revision of the equippable moveset code loaded into the game using cheat engine. Is there something better than cheat engine for this kind of thing? Maybe, but writing the code line-by-line in its disassembler is how I've been making all of my other custom code patches, so it's what I'll continue doing I suppose.
Oh and to address the look of my CSS in the vid, it is the revamp mod on game version 1.26, but the version I have isn't complete. There's a chunk of things missing or broken. It's mostly just the parts I need to check that my patches work and not much more. Don't use it as confirmation that the revamp mod is already updated or fully working or whatever.
Anyway tl;dr:
I missed a couple end of week posts because I've been deep into playing a new RPG I was excited for and kinda just lost track of the days. I've still been spending my nights coding though, so it's not like that's where all my free time was going. It's just that I've decided to throw out a large part of the equipable moveset code to re-write it, pretty much like I did with the Dynamic Partset code. I now have a solid foundation that I'm happy with, with proof that it seems to work on the CSS, so speed on completing it should pick up soon.
As always thanks for the support, and I'm sorry again things are taking as long as they are.
I'll try to remember to do the other end of week reports on time so it doesn't feel like I just stopped modding entirely or something.
