PAST v0.01 Prototype Released
I've been saying for months that as soon as I secured movement control, we'd have a PAST (Pack Attack: Starfield Troopers) prototype ready to go in short order. Well, yesterday morning I got movement control, and after an afternoon of code hacking and testing, I had a PAST prototype driving basic Starfield combat by the evening.
For now, you can find the v0.01 prototype in the PAST #public-releases channel of the GreslinGames Discord, available to Citizen role users. (If you don't currently have Citizen, please read the #read-this-first channel for instructions.)
I will start releasing PAST versions here once we get closer to a stable 1.0 release.
This prototype currently supports Spacers, Crimson Fleet, Ecliptic, and Va'ruun enemies, as well as any NPC inheriting their base templates. Ambush is not working yet, but we do seem to have maneuver, combat style switching, and close range melee. The AI is not yet differentiated by NPC type, so they're all running the same generic PAST combat patterns.
As a highly experimental prototype, this version should not be used with a save you care about, or at least haven't backed up. It has none of the PANPC safeguards against things like quest breaks, game crashes, or specialized NPC behaviors. Expect weirdness. Use entirely at your own risk.
All that said, this prototype is based on the PANPC 2.0.12 codebase, and so is already in far better shape than any pre-1.8 version of PANPC.
I plan to get at least one PAST dev video done next week.
Special thanks to all my Patreon subs! Truth is, two years ago I wasn't sure I'd be in a position to get into Starfield dev on the ground floor, and you guys made it possible. So you are most of the reason why this is happening at all, or at least now instead of a year from now, and for that I am greatly appreciative.
To Infinity and Beyond,
- G.
PS: Paid Patreon subs should now be automatically given Citizen role. If you are a paid sub and do not currently have Citizen, please let me know so that I can correct that. Thanks!
