General Update on PANPC and Such
I'm still alive. Things are still happening.
Let's just say that 2025 isn't rolling out quite the way I planned, although from glancing at the daily headlines I suspect that is true for many of you as well. In my case, I've had an IRL family crisis to contend with since the start of the year that has occupied pretty much every spare minute of every day since Christmas. Lately I've barely had time to pop in over on the Discord to make sure it hasn't burned down.
The good news is that - knock on wood - we're starting to see an end to the crisis, complications are starting to resolve and cancel each other out, and so there is hope right now that something resembling normal life may resume before too much longer.
Needless to say, work on PANPC 2.1 was completely deprioritized while all this was going on. I don't think I've so much as booted up a game in general since sometime in February. However, a time is coming very soon that I've taken to call the Eye of the Storm, where all that can be done is to sit and wait for the great societal machinery to do its work. When that time comes (probably in the next couple of weeks) I plan to sleep for about four days and then get back to the work of banging NPCs against each other to see what they do.
PANPC 2.1 is going to involve an overhaul of a number of systems, starting with incorporating most of the updates I did for the now-defunct PAST (Starfield) prototype. That, in turn, is going to necessitate reimagining everyone's basic combat patterns and behaviors, since much of the underlying script systems will have been redesigned. I will probably resume doing dev videos so that you all can watch the progress happen.
I just wanted to thank you all for the patience. It was never my intention to vaporware 2.1, and had none of this other stuff happened, I probably would have released something back in January. As it stands, I think what will ultimately become 2.1 will be a better mod than that. I just need some space and time to get my head comfortably back into coding space.
Hope everyone is having a tolerable 2025 so far. Stay strong, gang.
G.
