On Mark’s side note on patti smith trying to ruin Blondie’s careers - that probably post dates when Patti answered an ad for a place in Blondie - Debbie Harry relates somewhere that she turned up and proceeded to discourse critical on how various arrangements of blondie songs would be better if that went like such and such - Debbie was like, ‘who f is this entitled bitch’ and she didn’t get a call back …
Dang, didn't know that story, but it fits
The self importance of the southern-friendly generals and the frank disgust/ disdain for anyone other than their social class feels like a characteristic of current liberal class as well
McClellan was a bitch
Brad Dourif was incredible in the video game Myst III: Exile despite some fairly outlandish material.
Wise Blood is the perfect Halloween movie.
Great episode! Why does it seem fitting for Halloween? Ball's Bluff is maybe not a prominent enough event for an episode, but as a local in the area its a cherished story of McClellan being an evil coward. Also the battle saw the only sitting U.S. Senator to die in combat.
Any Popeheads here?
Consistently great content. Thanks again.

Ok guys let's do wrestling with shadows for out poll.
Amazing episode! I was just thinking yesterday when the next civil war related episode was going to drop and BAM here we are. RWN is magic sometimes. Off Topic: Anyone interested in buying a copy of Pleasant Hell?
Im interested
not directly related to this episode, but listening to it i started wondering -- is the civil war series going to include anything on reconstruction? a subject maybe bigger than the war itself & not the main focus of the podcast, but i really hope there's at least an episode or two on it
Episode #204 from 2019 looked at Reconstruction as a dirty war. Good overview, but it's definitely worthy of its own series.
I wanted to share a random Civil War related thing I heard about last week. My friend is a tattooist, and some (white) guy came up to him who had a huge Abraham Lincoln tattoo on his chest that he wanted covered up. Apparently he’d discovered that Lincoln wasn’t a perfect person. My friend offered to put clown makeup on Lincoln instead but the guy was like “No! I want him completely gone!” so my friend turned his chest into a huge black silhouette of nobody in particular. I definitely have thoughts on the impulsivity and lack of historical awareness of this dude on multiple occasions
That's ... weird. It's not like there's a ton of new information out there surfacing about Lincoln, unlike all the people with Kanye tattoos now.
There Will Be Blood was filmed out in oil & gas country in eastern New Mexico (aka Little Texas). It's a shithole.
Hell yeah--when other New Mexico people call something "Texas," it's not meant as a compliment.
Wonderful episode! Wonder if there’s a chance of an espionage focused civil war episode. The discussion of treason among the generals is fascinating— I would be curious to gain context about counterintelligence practices, level of bureaucratic organization, etc
AT LAST!
