🚧 SGFX Patch: Better World Select v_._ -- [11/19] ⚑ v2.0.2 of the OG is amazing (except for the colors). When I'm back, we'll D.I.Y. my simple modifications into the OG.

⚑ 11/19/2025 -- SIMMATICALLY IS DOING A WONDERFUL JOB WITH "BWS":

Better World Select is the quintessential "WorldSelection" mod for anyone looking for "more".

Personally, I still don't need the majority of these features, but it stands as a testament to SimMattically's skill with SGFX coding.

I just can't with the eye-stabby colors, bruh! 😹

So, I'll show you how to add my thing to Better World Select when I'm back later this month on proper internet.

Can I be nitpicky about the OG post for a hot second? πŸ‘Ή

βœ… BUILT WITH GAME VERSION 1.116 / 1.117 / 1.118

It can't be build with all three of them. That's not how SGFX resources work.

It's either built with an old SGFX resource and is allegedly compatible with the current game version (meaning it doesn't cause errors), or it's built with the current SGFX resource.

Maybe I'm mistaken, maybe there are gaps in my knowledge, maybe I just woke up and my brain ain't fully operational, but that "BUILT WITH" in that line don't make no kinda sense to me.

Unless you're saying that all three of those SGFX resource versions are identical, which they're not. Something changes in almost every SGFX resource every time the game updates. That something might not be the scripts that we modify (which is why some SGFX mod releases can work with multiple versions of the game - is a bit more complex than this but we don't need to get into that right now), but SOMETHING changes.

Yuh cyah build a mod with three different versions of a SINGLE SGFX resource but have one package release, bruh! It doh work liek dat! 😹

I know, this is a whole lotta nitpickin' for essentially two words in one line that won't really register for most folks reading it, but it registers for me. 😹

I'm open to being corrected here.

πŸ’€ 8/22/2025 -- I CAN'T PATCH THIS HOW I'D LIKE TO. I CAN, BUT...

It would mean re-sharing the whole mod. It is just the (1) Scale Form GFX resource that I modified for my "Pure Black Void".

"Pure Black Void" changes the color of the World Transition Screen, a.k.a. the obnoxious white fade-out load screen, and the World Select Background.

I can change the World Transition Screen and the World Select Background in "Better World Select" by modifying the image resource (I don't like doing this), but that blue text color irritates me on "Pure Black". Which is why I changed it.

I personally don't need the majority of features in "Better World Select", and the features I like, which are the names always shown and the better tooltips, are things I could probably figure out for myself and expand on.

To reiterate what I said almost a month ago when I first looked at this; I could reach out to SimMattically and offer them my "Pure Black" modifications if they're willing to do a variant.

πŸ’€ 7/29/2025 -- OF COURSE I CAN PATCH THIS, BUT CAN I SHARE THE PATCH?

The problem is that SimMattically only mentioned modifying (1) Scale Form GFX resource.

If the mod only modifies ONE (1) resource, then patching it would literally mean modifying their ONE (1) resource and then re-sharing their whole mod without the need to download their mod for the patch to do the patchy thing.

<SQUINTS>

I can probably do the black bit by doing the thing I don't like doing, which is modifying UI texture resources (because EAxis lumps textures together and modifying one degrades the rest - it's the issue you see with Loading Screen Plumbob Recolors), but without the text color modifications... I suppose we don't really need to read anything, but the horrid text colors would annoy the heck out of me.

I could just reach out to SimMattically and offer them my "Pure Black Void" modifications.

We'll see what happens, if anything, when the mod exists Early Access.
