President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Saudi Arabia's government and other backers are closing in on a $55 billion deal to purchase the video game company responsible for developing and publishing popular game franchises like The Sims, Madden NFL and Battlefield.
Electronic Arts, or EA, announced on Monday, Sept. 29 that it will be privately acquired by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), Silver Lake and Affinity Partners during the 2027 fiscal year. The latter of the investors, Affinity Partners, was founded by Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, who is married to Trump's eldest daughter, Ivanka Trump.
Upon the finalization of the acquisition, EA will remain headquartered in Redwood City, California, and Andrew Wilson will continue to serve as CEO, according to a news release.
The acquisition announcement comes less than a month before the release of EA's highly-anticipated Battlefield 6. Set to release on Oct. 10, the first-person shooter game has turned heads for its trailer featuring actors Zac Efron, Morgan Wallen, Jimmy Butler and Paddy Pimblett.
Here's what to know about the EA investors and how the deal may impact users.
How will the EA acquisition impact gamers?
The acquisition will not be finalized until the 2027 fiscal year, which begins in April 2026. Until then, EA customers should expect no changes to the company or EA gameplay experience.

Under the terms of the agreement, public shareholders will receive a $210 cash share, according to a news release.

PIF
PIF, or the Public Investment Fund, is the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world and its portfolio includes Uber. According to the PIF website, the fund has about $925 billion worth of assets under its management.
Silver Lake
Private equity company Silver Lake was founded by Glenn Hutchins and Roger McNamee in 1999. Its portfolio includes companies like Dell Technologies, sports marketing company Learfield and weight loss company Noom. Silver Lake is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.
Silver Lake made headlines recently, as the private equity company is involved in a preliminary deal to purchase the U.S. assets of TikTok.
Affinity Partners
Founded by Kushner in 2021, Affinity Partners in an investment company based in Miami, Florida. It focuses on investing in companies based in the United States and Israel.
Why is Saudi Arabia interested in EA?
Saudi Arabia's interest in EA is part of Saudi Vision 2030, a program which encourages the country's diversification of investments outside of just oil.
In 2021, PIF invested about $3.3 million in Activision Blizzard (World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Overwatch) and founded Savvy Games Group, a video game, development, publishing and investment company. PIF has also invested in Nintendo, and Saudi Arabia hosted the 2025 ESports World Cup.

I started talking about my shit openly last year on social media.
Some of it would be on Reddit in the "r/RaisedByNarcissists" subreddit, but I am very "crude" in my language when I talk about certain things, and I was asked to censor a specific word before my post was allowed, which I had absolutely no problem doing, but it was during the height of the internet disappearing for weeks and months at a time, and I just never got around to it, then Reddit "updated" their UI into the trash it is now, and I just kinda scaled back everything I was doing on Reddit.
I had hoped to create a video series or a podcast with my sibling discussing our abuse, but... it didn't pan out. Let's leave it at that for now.
In the future I might still do it if/when I find myself in a place where I am able to speak (vocally) freely, even if I have to do it by myself and just talk about it from my perspective, because... staying silent doesn't help anyone.

Y'know, a lot of people talk shit about "Bronies" online, and I acknowledge that there are numerous creeps in the "Brony" fandom, but these colorful ponies helped me through some of the worst of my depression when I was younger.
They're cute and bubbly, and despite the fucked-up sub-plot concerning Spike and Rarity, the show is filled with good "the moral of this story is" messages.
Though to be fair, I've only seen the first few seasons.
I don't know if the quality dips in later seasons, so mileage may vary.

it's unlikely any of the 'woke' content will ever be removed. there are too many dlcs and we already know it takes the sims team literal years to fix simple bugs and corruption issues. however, you can bet your ass there will be less and less female hairs, no new lgb content, no new diversity or inclusion content like mobility aids, skin textures, skin tones. because of kushners involvement there also might not be curly hairs. but content wont be outright removed, not for a few years. whats far more likely to happen is a massive increase in microtransactions and more paywalls. so, smaller dlcs for more price. certain actions, conversations, and features locked behind a microtransaction. that's what i would be worried about, not any content being outright removed. The actual privitization isnt taking effect until 2027, so we still have ~a year before we see any of these changes to begin with.
also i want to add that saudia arabia has been interested in gaming sectors for a few years now. Oil is not a long term economical plan and will eventually stop bringing in money. the government knows this and theyre actively branching out to try and get a safety net. theyre also far more interested in the sports side of EA, as that brings in much more than the sims does. they arent your usual private equity buyout. they dont want to gut ea and sell it back to shareholders, they want to ensure long term economical safety for their country. not saying this isnt a horrible thing, it is. just saying that it isnt as bad as some people are making it out to be. the sims is not going to be gutted tomorrow, it wont even be gutted two years from now. this will be the end of the sims purely because the user base is going to boycott and abandon the title, not because they're going to shelf it.
I read kushner's wiki page. He seems just as corrupt as the trumps but since he wasnt born a trump he grew up with more brain power than the entire trump family combined. Which can be seen in his "achievements" to raise money and helped the orange rapist to get into office. What I dont understand is how his 2bil grew into 55bil to buy EA. Or why he would be interested in buying such a company. But Im sure the sims franchise has nothing to do with it.
Oh, I'm sure "censoring The Sims" has nothing to do with it either, but that's not my main concern. If they start censoring the game, we can just "roll back" or revive the content through modding. If they remove modding, we can just "roll back" to a version that supports modding. The real issue is that The Sims will soon finance them and their interests 100%. Every EA purchase will soon finance them and their interests 100%. First and foremost, it is a moral dilemma. It's a matter of principle now.
