Illegal Seagull

Greetings adventurers!

This is perhaps the most… um, challenging intelligent item I’ve come across. Talking firearms, a shield that seems desperate to sacrifice itself, even one time a creepy doll that implanted dreams in my brain at night, but none of them come close to the level of abuse put out by this little stuffed seagull. I’m not sure if it was made as a joke or punishment, but I’ve taken to locking him up in a cage and just hoping he’ll be quiet. Instead he’s hurled some of the most vile, contemptible language at me that I’ve ever heard. I’ve actually been taking notes on how to more adequately insult someone from it.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Ooooh this is a weird one, but what a fun thing to write. The initial idea for this one came from perhaps an unexpected place. One of Fernando’s children dreamed up this character and once I heard the concept, I knew we had to put it together. I will admit, seagulls get a bit of a bad reputation from their general loudness and brash behavior, but these amazing aviators are some of the most fascinating with how long they can survive at sea and just how far they can actually travel. Regardless, creating something that really dug into the seagull stereotype was a lot of fun.

I approached these completely differently in the two systems. The 5E version was much more of something you could slot in to give your players if they didn’t happen to have a rogue in the party. I wanted to convey the possibility of putting in an item that could advise more good aligned players on the more rough and tumble sides of society if they didn’t have something like that present. The idea being it could guide them through the criminal underworld with thieves’ cant and so on while also being a bit verbally abusive for fun.

On the PF2E side, I didn’t want to supplant that underworld presence so much as enhance it. You could think of this as a thief's companion that works together with your already present sneaky types to enhance their abilities and also hurl a little verbal abuse from time to time if they were being a little too good lately. The different focuses really meant that I ended up writing vastly different items. I think that’s kind of awesome in the end.

Next week we’ll be releasing a creature along with our newest magic item that might just boil your blood or make it run cold. In fact it might just do both at once if you’re not careful. We look forward to getting that One More Thing in your hands. We hope you’ve had a great week and we’ll see you next time!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
