Finger Guns

Greetings adventurers!

I try to keep up with modern design trends to the best of my ability, but I swear the youths of this day just perplex me. Back in my youth, the trendy thing was pointing at people with both of your hands and making a little click sound. I’m not sure why that was the case, and I’m really not sure what we were even referencing. That said, I’ve heard that style is cyclical so I’ve decided that I’m bringing it back! At least these are a bit more form and function.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Look, I’m not going to lie to you and say there was some highbrow idea associated with this. I thought of finger guns and the silliness of the motion and was like “oh yeah, we should absolutely make that into a magic item”. That was about as far as the idea took me and everything from there was just getting the mechanics that made the most sense for the actual item.

In the 5E version, I knew I wanted the fire bolt cantrip since that just works out perfectly for shooting finger guns at someone, but I wanted to give them a bit more power than just that. The idea of “point blank” was just another pun to bring in for an item that is already admittedly a bit silly. I think if you’re going to make something like this, you have to acknowledge the silliness of it. Trying to play it straight just makes you seem out of touch.

For the PF2E version. I’ve been wanting to design more items that have multiple levels to them and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so. I had already decided that I wanted to drop in ignition for the spell that you could cast but granting it as an innate spell was done so people could cast heightened versions as they went. Scaling the greater version with fireball twice a day was just to make sure these don’t completely fall off later in the game.

I love making serious items but sometimes a joke item is just exactly right for a certain character or game. I think there’s room for both at a lot of my tables. It’s nice to just lean fully into a bit of silly though to refresh the palette from time to time and hopefully you all feel the same way.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.

Hey James, it's a choice made when you make a melee weapon attack. I'll clean up the language a bit today and upload a new version to make that more obvious. I'll reply to you here once that's up.
