Pocket Ninja
Greetings adventurers!
I knew a woodcarver a long time past that used to make all manner of little figurines and paint them up to look like soldiers and beasts. I never quite understood, but he used to get together with other friends of his who had similar hobbies and they would play these remarkably complex games with them. I’m not sure what manner of joy one could derive from simply playing make believe about figures on a table when there’s so much of the world out there to explore. That said, I suppose it is safer than fighting dragons. This was one of his figures that he gifted to me, but I decided to put an actual enchantment on it, you know so it would actually be useful!

Design notes from Matthew:
This all started as a joke as many of our items do actually. I’m not sure why it works that way between Fernando and I, but for some reason, we’ll be ranting about something silly or one upping each other with word games and the like until we land on something that actually kind of works for a magic item. That’s just the way our communication style is and it’s kind of awesome that we can ideate by just having a fun time and conversing with one another.
The original idea of this item was to be something that would make for a little stealthy bonus when you might need it most. There were other ideas of it running around and opening opportunity attacks, so on. I quickly put those to the side because I didn’t want an item that ended up fiddly to control or that felt like it was trying to take over as the star of the show. Ultimately that should be left to the player characters.
In the 5E version we actually had Pass Without a Trace right there and waiting as the perfect thing to convey the bonuses that I wanted to. Oddly enough, while a couple of spells exist that get close in PF2E, none of them were exactly what I was looking for so I ended up having to write an effect of my own. It’s rare that PF2E doesn’t have the perfect spell on hand, but hey that let me get to write a bit more too!
It’s been a great summer of creations and now that we’re dipping into the fall in my neck of the woods, it’s exciting to think about what crazy and cozy items we might get to put together this month as well. We hope you’ll stick around and find out what we have on offer.
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
