Aumakua

Greetings adventurers!

The shark can be a creature that inspires fear, but really we have little to be afraid of when it comes to these hulking predators of the sea. So long as you’re not presenting yourself as a fish, it’s unlikely for one of these behemoths to ever even want to come near you. Many seaside communities have even come to favor such creatures and see them as protectors of the waters. Some have even gone so far as to deify certain sharks that prowl their waters as guardians of things that could be far worse in the deep oceans. It’s one such culture that created this very unique hammer that I now find in my shop. It’s a little slippery to the touch, so be careful.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

Oh man, I love creating animal themed items for some reason. Well actually I very much know the reason, I’m just a big fan of the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. There’s always so much excitement for me when I get to write something animal themed because I get to delve into a bit of my knowledge about the creature or in some ways get to share that love of animals and the natural world with you. It’s something that I wish I could do more of, conservation that is, but maybe with time.

For the 5E version, this was quite straightforward, hit with the attack and then make a chomp against the creature using your potential bonus action that comes with it. I had thought about having to give this some sort of frequency, but in the end it’s more about the fun of getting to chomp your opponent and then them trying to squirm out of it while you hope that they won’t.

On the PF2E version, there’s a little more complexity to the grabbing and grappling actions that take place in the system. You have to be cognizant of how the whole thing works together because you could very easily accidentally break the action economy with something that didn’t take all the moving parts into account. At least, that’s what I’ve found when writing these items for the past several years.

It has been another fun week of creating another option for your games. I should have the Foundry modules updated this weekend for those that use them and next week we’ll be delving into the world of time with our next creature and magic item for your campaigns.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
