Shredder

Greetings adventurers!

Have you heard this new type of “music” they’re cooking up down at the local pub? They’re calling it “metal” which confuses me because that’s already the name of a material. You would think they would have gone with something a little more original. I didn’t really understand until I saw some of their instruments and heard the sound of it all. A truly odd thing to behold, but I must admit that I kind of enjoyed my time listening. There were all manner of scruffy long-haired folks in the audience, but they all seemed so polite and just happy to be there. It was a wondrous thing to experience and I just had to learn more of their instruments.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Well boy oh boy is this a powerful one. It was awesome to dive back into the realm of straight up combat power and high level items. I love creating things that appeal to lower levels and have interesting impacts both inside and outside of combat, but sometimes you just want to make a big powerful axe and that’s what we did here. This was all about the “axe” pun from the start, just making a guitar that could also be used to split some heads when the need arises. From there though, it split quite heavily and I had to really redesign it individually for each system.

On the 5E version, we don’t have bleed damage. I think that’s an unfortunate side effects of HP being more about you “will to keep fighting” than it is actual hit points that relay some information about health. I had to come up with a different way to make the signature ability impactful while not having to implement a whole new system into the game. I went with an HP threshold for disadvantage on that saving throw as it seemed to fill that same niche of targeting wounded creatures more.

In the PF2E version, I could make it a wounding weapon quite easily with a property rune so I then had the ability to work in other options on the main ability that tied into the bleeding status. The actual results of the Raining Blood ability were based off of Fear, but cranked up a notch to make it an even more powerful ability to use at higher levels when you’re rending and wounding across the battlefield. It can even have party synergy if casters and so on are also generating bleeding damage.

It was a blast diving back into the world of high level legendaries and artifacts. It’s great getting to just throw concern out the window and design with power in mind. It’s not something I want to do all of the time, but every once in awhile, it’s great to do something that’s just all about raw power on the battlefield.

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
