Drawing Board
Greetings adventurers!
When this first hit my counter, I thought that some fool had simply thought a chalk board mounted to their wrist would be a great idea. As I learned of the actual functionality though, I was blown away at the concept and frankly a little upset that I hadn’t come up with it myself. No matter though, a good idea is a good idea. This little piece is not only the last shield you’ll need, but it also lets you coordinate with your team in ways you never would have throught possible. Go ahead, try it on for size.
Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.
If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron
Design notes from Matthew:
I love the idea of advanced tactics in combat when it comes to TTRPGs. Things that are more than just move into place and attack really go a long way for me and I love seeing players working together to solve combat problems with non-traditional means such as advanced positioning, coordinated crowd control, or in this case, just good movement and mechanics. There’s a special place in my heart for systems that make combat feel elegant and interactive rather than a trade of HP.
I wanted this shield to be useful in several ways in 5E so I decided to build it with a charge system that would let the person using it offer more options for the rest of their team in combat. This was always intended to be a piece that better benefitted the party and lends itself well to a character that is more of a coordinator than a max damage dealer themselves. Offering a few options to bolster the party, move them into new positions, and give them something other than move and hit was the goal.
On the PF2E side, well Commander is right at home with this on their tactics and I thought that would be the best system to tie into. It made much more sense to run it that way than trying to reinvent the wheel. There are not a lot of items that are by default made with the Commander in mind, so I wanted to seize the opportunity to make one as well. I typically try to design things that have broad use implications, but sometimes getting right in the nitty gritty is a lot of fun.
It’s awesome that we continue to get to do this each month and we’re so thankful for the continued support. We’ve got a collab coming up next week with a few of our creative friends and I can’t wait to share what we’ve been building with you all. We’ll see you next release day for that!
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
