Bandwagon

Greetings adventurers!

This cacophonous racket made its way into my shop last week and I have been afraid of it ever since. Not in the sense that I actually fear for myself, but rather than I don’t want to touch it for fear of it whirring to life. Whoever pieced together this madness of gears and bolts seems to have had little care for the actual maintenance of such an “instrument” and instead only wanted to make something as loud as possible. I guess it could be useful for a distraction if you needed to draw in everyone around, but for any other purpose, well I just don’t know.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Ah yes, we’re on the pun name thing again. We’re probably never going to get off of that particular train so hopefully you’re on board with it for the long haul. It’s something that I love doing just giving something a name that takes an overly literal approach to something we all know to mean something else. You say the word bandwagon and well, I’m literally going to make a wagon with a whole band in it that is used to terrorize people around it.

We had to be careful about how we approached the actual usability of this one for the simple reason that we wanted to keep it low level in rarity. We often approach low level design by giving options instead of power. You could certainly distract some guards in a number of ways, but what we seek to offer is a fun and cinematic option for you to do so with something that is maybe a bit ridiculous and therefore fun. That’s our general design approach when it comes to things meant for lower levels.

In this case, I set the range to hear it quite far out so it could be used to draw a number of people away from their usual positions and make a rather insane noise while doing so, but I limited the range at which there are actual tangible effects. It could allow for sneaking through a crowd or passing by something unheard. It could even allow you to get away with doing something loud somewhat nearby, but I didn’t want to make this a very powerful “you can do whatever you want in a large radius” item. This is an option for distraction and obfuscation.

It’s always a blast designing some more low level items and we have another one coming next week. We’ve also got a pretty fun collab lined up for later in the month with our good friend Ori the Cartographer as well as the lovely folks at Bardic Tools. We think you’ll love what we’re cooking up!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
