Murder Mitts
Greetings adventurers!
The animal kingdom is home to all manner of beasts that specialize in just about anything you could put your mind to and certainly some that would still surprise you as well. That’s one of the things I find most interesting about it and also something that bothers me deeply when a piece like these gauntlets come into my possession. What noble beast did these once belong to and was it actually so dangerous that it needed to be put down or was it merely a misunderstood part of its ecosystem? Regardless, they’re in the shop so they’re for sale!
Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
One of my favorite ways to develop magic items is to just pick a theme and run the whole way through with it. Give it all those little bits and bobs that might not seem like much on their own but add up to something really thematic and interesting when they’re all pieced together. It’s one of my favorite ways to develop items because you get to just add in so many little niceties that make for a well rounded item that ends up feeling really strong in the theme that you gave it and that’s exactly how this piece turned out.
On the 5E and PF2E versions I knew I wanted to give some bonuses to unarmed strikes and thankfully we have plentiful opportunities and examples of items out there that already do this. It was basically just about picking the proper rarities and choosing the right level of bonuses to give. When it’s something simple like this, there’s no need to reinvent the wheel and do something totally different. Just pull from the already written material and then figure out how to expand on it.
I was able to separate these two moreso in the bestial reflexes section where I made it an attack for 5E and a Grapple attempt in PF2E. The reason for this is that reactive strikes in PF2E are not a guarantee or in some cases are already part of a lot of class kits. Stepping on that gives all manner of problems to longer term balancing and was something I needed to stay clear of, thus the change to grapple. It’s still strong for melee combatants, but gives utility instead of straight combat damage.
Creating things has always been something I’ve loved and it’s so nice to be able to continue to do that here with this project as well. It’s your support that has kept us able to make cool stuff and we hope to keep doing it for a long time coming!
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
