Update May 8: so many improvements! And May 4, fixed for official patch 1.05.01.
See here, and/or the bottom of this post, for further details]

Game

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3321460/Crimson_Desert/

Enabled technologies

AER v2, DL(S)SS-RR

Supported version(s)

The R.E.A.L. VR framework was tested with game patch 1.08.00, available from Steam at the address linked at the top (I get no commissions). The same version of the title bought from other stores might also work, but there are no guarantees.

IMPORTANT: This title is hugely complex and bound to get lots of updates in the future, so the only way I can hope to keep up with them is by focusing my efforts on one version only. Therefore, I really recommend that you get the game from Steam if you want to play it in VR, otherwise you might be sheer out of luck.

Older versions or pirated copies are not supported. Official versions later than the ones listed above may or may not work, depending on what was changed. See here for information on how to prevent automatic game updates from breaking VR functionality.

Special setup notes

The folder where you should extract the R.E.A.L. VR archive and run RealConfig is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crimson Desert\bin64". You might need to customize the path if you moved your games library or in case you own the game from a different store, but it will always be the folder that contains the "CrimsonDesert.exe" executable file.

Resolution and aspect ratio

I was able to interface directly with the engine in order to add the custom resolutions needed for VR. CD can deal just fine with the required square aspect ratios. You will be able to select the resolution you prefer from the game Settings> Video menu itself, without any hassle. Curiously, Screen Mode doesn't seem to matter much for this one. "Window" might be the best choice if you need to Alt-Tab frequently, like if you're streaming or following a walkthrough guide, while "Fullscreen" will stretch the game window to fit your monitor.

Options

You can set all graphics and gameplay options according to your liking and how powerful your GPU is, but there are a few settings that you must leave at the defaults preselected by RealConfig in order for the title to display properly in VR. Specifically, in the Settings> Video menu:

  • Screen Mode should be Window, although as I said above Fullscreen or Borderless Window will also work fine with this one, at least with the current version;

  • Resolution: pick one with a 1:1 aspect ratio (like 2032x2032 for instance), as they are the best fit for VR. The first two ones in the list, 1280x720 and 1920x1080, are just there for compatibility or in case you need to play some portion of the game with VR turned off;

  • Upscale Mode, Upscale Resolution, NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction: you will get the most amazing visuals you ever witnessed in VR, no contest, by using NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 L, with Upscale Resolution set to DLAA and Ray Reconstruction set to On. For this game I invested a lot of effort into perfecting my DL(S)SS-RR fix, which will get rid of almost all the shimmering around nearby characters and objects, including most of the obnoxious denoiser artifacts that plague all games with ray tracing. However, such a configuration will make even your RTX 5090 sweat bullets, so please read through the special Performance section I added below in this post (don't say I didn't warn you!);

  • NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation must be Off (this is crucial as not only FG does not work at all in VR, it usually also crashes the game immediately and sometimes brings down the whole system). If you turned it on by mistake and now the game won't even start anymore, temporarily rename the dxgi.dll file in the game folder to dxgi_bak.dll to deactivate VR, then launch the game and turn FG back off. After that you can restore the dxgi.dll and the game should start normally again;

  • NVIDIA Reflex should be Off (system-dependent, but for me switching it on tends to have a negative impact on frame rate);

  • V-Sync must be Off;

and in the Settings> Accessibility menu:

  • Blur Intensity must be 0 (you should never enable any kind of motion blur when using R.E.A.L. VR, or the world will look smeared out horizontally);

  • UI Size, UI HUD Size, Minimum Font Size and Subtitles Font Size should all be turned up to their maximum values, otherwise the information in the HUD will be too small to read in VR;

  • Depth of Field should be Off.

Everything else can be adjusted according to your preferences. There are plenty of options in the Graphics page, but they all seem to have a small impact on performance, except for the two beasts which are Hell bent on devouring all the cores in your GPU: Ray Tracing set to On and Lighting Quality set to Max. Even the 5090 can barely cope with that (see the next section).

Additional game-specific notes

You can bring up the R.E.A.L. overlay with the Pause key on the keyboard, or by pressing Back+Start (Select+Start) on the gamepad. The controller gesture is always active, even during gameplay.

Performance

This game needs specific performance recommendations, otherwise I'm afraid that you won't be able to enjoy it in VR.

First of all: Ray Tracing makes the game look unbelievably good, but it's such a performance killer. Even with my DL(S)SS-RR fix that allows you to enable NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction and have it work correctly in stereoscopic mode, I think it's realistic to say that the RTX 5090 is the only card that can run the game with RT in VR. And even if you have the best GPU currently on the market, don't expect any miracles.

To give you some numbers: I can run CD on my Quest 3 at 2032x2032 resolution on the Cinematic preset, with DLSS 4.5 L set to DLAA, Ray Reconstruction On (which will change the Cinematic preset to Custom), Reflex Off. With all of that, and setting the new magic sliders in the R.E.A.L. VR overlay main page to "Restrict horizontal FOV" = 0.7 and "Restrict vertical FOV" = 0.639, I can sustain 1/3 rate at 48 fps and it looks like I've died and gone to Heaven, except that Heaven has a somewhat reduced field of view. Or in the same configuration but changing only Ray Reconstruction to Off, I can sustain 1/2 rate at 72 fps.

So, if you want all the eye candy (and who doesn't?) even the most powerful card will only be able to get a decent frame rate at the meager resolution of 2032x2032. That in my opinion looks way too soft when you're running a headset like the Quest 3 at full FOV, because you will only get about 15 pixels per degree. But lo and behold, here's the trick: restricting the FOV to 0.7x0.639 will boost the pixel density to 23.4 pixels per degree, which is enough to look almost as good as a high definition monitor.

This title also seems to have trouble with DLSS when any form of upsampling is involved, making both the world and the characters looks grainy and noisy. That's why I'm setting DLSS to DLAA, which is not something I normally do with other games, because you only get the antialiasing quality improvement without any performance gains. My hunch is that the foliage and facial hair are too dense, which is making the motion vectors chaotic, even past the ability of the neural net to resolve the motion field.

So in conclusion, if you don't want to restrict your field of view or have a lesser GPU, then I would say that DLSS is unaffordable, and I actually recommend you try with FSR 3.1. Hair will shimmer a lot, but it's decently sharp and really performant.

Your mileage may vary of course; please experiment and report your findings in the comments! If people love this game in VR, we might be able to convince Brandon to do a post or even a video on scaling and optimization []-D

Input

You will definitely want to use a gamepad to play CD. Keyboard and mouse sort of work too, but there might be issues, like mouse clicks activating other windows at random or some entries in the game menus being unreachable with the cursor; thus, in order to have a smooth experience, using a gamepad is highly recommended. I haven't had a chance to try the DualSense yet, let me know if it works well for you!

Camera, HUD, gameplay, cutscenes

The R.E.A.L. framework supports 6 DoF tracking. In this title the camera will follow your head rotation and movement in space, and it will be completely decoupled from the direction your character or horse is facing, except when aiming.

All the cameras provided by the game (3rd person with different distances, and 1st person) will work correctly in VR. So nice of the developers to provide many options, although I must warn you that they coded the first person camera to be extremely shy and always looking for an excuse to revert back to 3rd person. Climbing? 3rd. Horse riding? 3rd. Swimming? 3rd. Combat? 3rd. Bumping into something? 3rd. You get the gist.

I will keep improving the HUD with time. It is mostly functional already, albeit with a few problems (see the Known Issues section below). Update: I spent endless hours on this and now I believe everything is working perfectly with the HUD, starting with release 2605.4.2_early_access. If some elements are outside of your field of view or hard to read, you can try to get a better fit by using the sliders available in the HUD section of the main page in the overlay: "Normal HUD size/distance" for cutscenes and menus, and "Aiming HUD size" for normal gameplay.

Cutscenes are presented in glorious 3D, and my framework will give you the ability to look anywhere you like. Even the "backstage" (parts of the scene which you were never supposed to see) seems to render correctly in this game, without missing props, teleporting or rubber-legged characters. The intro animation with the cubes is an exception: it's not a full-blown 3D rendering, but just a shader coded specifically to achieve that particular effect (like in the demoscene) so it will appear headlocked.

IMPORTANT: to get rid of the ugly letterboxing in cutscenes, and to make subtitles look nicer by replacing their solid background with outlines, I strongly recommend that you install this third-party mod. An easy way to do that is with the JSON Mod Manager, which will also help you keep your other mods for this beautiful game organized and not fighting with each other.

Custom controls in the "CD" overlay tab

Many of you requested it, so I extended to CD the capability to unlock the horizon that I first introduced when I started supporting BG3. You will find a new "Camera pitch behavior" dropdown menu that can be set to:

  • "Always keep horizon locked": the golden rule in VR, and the original setting I used for all these years. When this is selected, no matter what happens in cutscenes or gameplay, the R.E.A.L. VR framework will always keep the horizon, erm, horizontal. This is meant to minimize conflicting inputs to your vestibular system, as many people get sick otherwise.

  • "Fully unlocked": using the gamepad right stick or the mouse to move the camera will make the world tilt up or down just like it does when you're playing a 3D game on a flat screen. This is potentially very nauseating in VR, and I don't like it personally because it's immersion breaking for me: it gives me the feeling that I'm in a game I control, as opposed to a fixed external reality. But on the plus side, it won't force you to crane your neck up and down when the camera position is far above or below the target you're looking at (which is especially annoying in cutscenes that quickly alternate between the camera pointing straight up and down, as you never seem to be looking at the point where the action is).

  • "Tilt for large angles (default)": this is the new preferred option I'm experimenting with. It will keep the horizon locked for normal situations, like when the gameplay or cutscene camera is facing more or less straight ahead; however, it will progressively tilt the world towards you as the camera inclination becomes steeper. So during normal gameplay it will feel like the world is stable, which by all means it should be, but if for instance a cutscene is rapidly toggling the camera between pointing way up and way down (think the classical Romeo and Juliet scene), you will be able to see everything without constantly craning your neck.

It's a rare occurrence, but sometimes the game may roll the camera left and right, for example when you're lying on your side on the floor (it mostly happens in cutscenes). If the effect bothers you, uncheck the "Allow camera roll" box to keep it from happening in VR.

I enabled the dropdown menu where you can set your dominant eye (the default is right-eye dominant, which works for about 2 out of 3 people). However, I'm not sure that it makes an actual difference here, because I haven't progressed enough in my playthrough. If the option has no visible effect on this game I will remove it in future versions.

You can change the world scale, from small adjustments to playing with dolls or giants, and even force the game to render to a 2D virtual screen. Optionally you can bind the 2D screen toggle to either a keypress or the "left thumbstick + left shoulder button" gamepad gesture to make it easily accessible.

The vast majority of users should not need to touch this setting, but if your system appears to display the 3D effect incorrectly (as though distant objects were actually in front of closer ones) try changing the "Frame delay compensation" value step by step until you get a perfectly stable world image, with proper depth everywhere.

Updates and known issues

[Update May 27: fixed for official patch 1.08.00.

Update May 8: Release 2605.8.2_early_access of the R.E.A.L. VR framework improves support for CD considerably, to the point that it's almost starting to feel like a native VR game. See here for details.

Update May 4: Release 2605.4.2_early_access of the R.E.A.L. VR framework extends support for CD to version 1.05.01 (All Platforms Hotfix). There are also improvements to DS2OTB: see the game-specific post here.

Update April 24: Release 2604.24.2_early_access of the R.E.A.L. VR framework extends support for CD to version 1.04.01 (All Platforms Hotfix). I prevented the game from limiting the field of view to 100 degrees, which would make the world look warped on headsets with larger FOV. I also fixed a recent regression with my OpenXR code that completely messed up the stereo image for all games, and I restored the broken gaze-aiming in DS2OTB after yesterday's official update to PC Patch 1.5.

Update April 23: fixed for official patch 1.04.00, which dropped just a few hours after my first release for the game. Everything works fine again in VR, although you might also need to update any third-party mods you've been using. At Brandon's request, I also added a few more resolutions to the list; maybe he has something cooking that will give us more performance!]

  • OculusDebugToolCLI: some of you have reported an issue (here and with DS2OTB) where the game won't start in VR and the Oculus Debug Tool complains that it cannot connect to the service. I'm unable to reproduce the problem, so at the moment I can't give any ETA on a fix. A possible workaround could be renaming the OculusDebugToolCLI.exe file in "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics" to something else, like OculusDebugToolCLI_.exe (thank you Sergej for the idea). No need for workarounds anymore, this should be fixed now.

  • HUD: in this initial implementation, the HUD as a whole still flickers a little in VR, and the interaction prompts and captions that you get when you speak to NPCs outside of cutscenes will be doubled and jittering around. Luckily, important elements like the pointer for precision jumping work correctly instead, sticking to the world as they should. Fully fixed in release 2605.4.2_early_access.

  • Gamepads: if you are using an Xbox-style gamepad, buttons pressed while the R.E.A.L. overlay is open might leak through to the game. Of course you can always use the keyboard to navigate the overlay. Solved, no more button leaks.

  • Crashes: Steam Input might need to be disabled, or enabled, or configured to use default settings—depending on your system, the phase of the moon and other factors we haven't been able to pinpoint. Just experiment, and if your game crashes (especially at the start) that's the first setting you should try to change.

  • DLSS: you might be affected by a bug where, if you had previously used DLSS-RR in the same gaming session, plain old DLSS will no longer work correctly with my stereoscopic fix until you restart the game. It seems to be very random and system-dependent, although it should only bother you when you do your initial experiments. Once you've settled on the config you like, it will no longer be a problem.

  • Lip sync: outside of cutscenes, words spoken by NPCs seem completely out of sync with the movement of their lips. Most of the time NPCs in groups will move their mouths as if they were talking, but no sounds will be coming out. And if you address them directly, they will speak but the lips will keep moving for quite a while after the dialogue is played out. This does not seem VR-related in any way, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

[I'll post new information here as it becomes available.]

Marosh Bruno · July 27, 2026

Well unfortunately that was very disappointing... I bought the game hoping for the same mod quality as all the other awesome Luke's mods but this is unplayable. 😒 It looks horrible at the highest possible resolution and it runs so bad that it's the worst Luke's mod IMO (and I played dozens of them and I bought the game for 48 euros). 😔 I really hope there's some chance to make it run better.

Brandon(Post Maester) · July 27, 2026

That is heavily on the game side, they don't have a very good DLSS implementation which is unfortunate. Plus, they rely heavily on RT/PT for visuals. Just like some games look like hot garbage in UE5 without all the fancy graphical stuff that costs more performance than GPUs can run natively flat. I had to roll back the game two versions to finish up my video, which will hopefully be up in the next couple days. That might help you some, but I make no promises because this game just has lighting and other issues currently. Nothing Luke can do about that.

Is there a way to move the bottom left minmap, my eyes cant bend down that angle to see it clearly... same for the info notes that pop up in the top left corner of the VR headset... im trying to figure out how to move them in to the center a tad bit, so I don't go cross eyed trying to read stuff I cant see.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · June 9, 2026

You can use the Aiming HUD slider in the main tab of the REAL overlay to adjust it some. There is also a mod on Nexus that makes the mini map bigger. https://www.nexusmods.com/crimsondesert/mods/275

So I installed the third party subtitles background removed mod from nexus... however I am learning that There are 3 different types of mods... there are JSON, ASI and XML ... I want to remove the subtitles which is a XML mod... but then I cant use any other mods which are JSON, or ASI ... so is there a mod manager than can do all three? .. The JSON MOD MANAGER only does JSON ... so im hoping some one might have a solution to this problem? UPDATE: I was able to get all mods and subtitle background blockers enabled using CRIMSON MOD MANAGER. Good to go.

Hey Im new to this, I am currently trying to figure out what version 1.08 date is on the steamdb so I know what older version to downpatch to... I just now got the game downloaded just to try it on vr. if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great. Currently the file version is showing 1.0.0.1673... in properties on the exe... but that doesnt look right? I am guessing I need to download the May 22 update (since there is no verison numbers on the steamDB website) ... as that would probably be the version that luke Patched on may27 update he posted?

I have the latest version of CD 1.08.00, extracted the files to bin64, but running RealConfig.bat does nothing.. like literally nothing... after saying press any key, the window just disappears and that's it... am I missing something? or is just the version of the game the problem? [I'm using steamVR to run the game] Edit: managed to install it but cannot see as native VR, the screen is doubled, like literally doubled, on 1 eye is the full screen, on the second eye is the full screen as well and not working. After using the option to use Meta Oculus, the VR mode is not starting at all

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 26, 2026

You should not be using SteamVR at all with an Oculus headset. Just use Oculus runtime, either with link cable, Air link or Virtual Desktop. That being said, VR support was broken by update 1.08, so we are also waiting on a fix from Luke. Which will hopefully come sometime soon here :)

Amazing work as always. Can't complain about living the dream of the greatest VR game library we've always imagined! The camera pitch doesn't seem to behave the same while on horesback? And after dismounting, camera position choice changes (zoom in to 1st person, mount, dismount, and now the camera is in 3rd-person over the shoulder). The camera pitch thing is really confusing -- it goes from far behind and above the player to right-behind-the-feet, in-the-grass constantly. Am I doing something wrong? It would be much less disorienting if it tilted in response to right-stick input, but only by like 10 or 15 degrees total range, or something. (just-above to just below shoulder height, if that makes sense.)

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 9, 2026

You can try limiting camera movement speed in the game settings probably. I don't think Luke can adjust incremental speeds like that without a lot of extra work probably. I think the camera constantly changing positions during different actions leads to issues in this game in general. You can try the camera mod that stops it from zooming out. I haven't tried it after it was updated. There is a first-person camera mod called "more first person" but it will just try to keep locking you into first person as much as possible. The previous version of "more first person" worked really well. You could use F10 to lock in whatever camera distance you had set, and it would always move back to that after you dismounted or stopped gliding. This game naturally has a lot of different camera positions.

In CD none of the sliders in the REAL overlay can be changed. I am trying to adjust the HUD that you recommended. All parameters {except resolution} are greyed out and cant be adjusted. Any ideas? Thx

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 8, 2026

There should not be a resolution option in the REAL overlay for this game. I haven't had any issues with the HUD sliders in the main tab. The aiming HUD slider adjusts the mini map and UI. Try running the config file again, I guess? What headset are you using?

Oh maaan this is absolutely incredible. Once the UI bits get resolved, this is gonna be absolute gold

P
Panda Trackers · May 7, 2026

This mod for CD feels like it has all the exact problems like initial RE9 VR mod had. With DLSS being unusable and UI being an issue. But RE9 VR is like the best looking and performing game after the latest update, which has added frame gen and dynamic foveated render. It runs 4k per eye with DLAA and max graphics now. I wonder, if anything could be learned and added to this mod? Like it seems there is a way to do quality frame gen with motion vectors (like RE9VR AFW4 mod) there is no smearing or ghosting. And to add DFR, again the same RE9 VR AFW4 mod just did that.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 7, 2026

I'll have to check it out. I do wonder how they got frame gen working. Actual DLSS frame gen or AMD? Or a custom version? Edit: Looks like they don't have frame gen working. It is a custom Alternate Frame Warp rendering method by Pure Dark. I haven't actually tried it yet. I had read about it briefly. Does it work really well? Have you used it?

Just want to reiterate how great this game is in VR. I did the first twenty or so hours flat and its just so much better this way. Those big ogre guys actually feel Big now! So glad you decided to continue doing what you do. Finally (I think) settled on no upscale at all, and DLAA with everything maxed except no ray reconstruction. Able to Hit 3k res and everything is sharp as long as its not super close. Looks quite amazing on the PSVR2 oled.

I'm using version 1.05. If I set it to 1/2 Rate, all the UI elements are there, but the frame rate is very slow and the overall effect is not good. Mono mode works perfectly for me. However, when using Oculus mode, I can't see any in-game UI at all in the headset with Mono enabled — not even the LukeRoss overlay menu. I can only see the LukeRoss menu and the game UI if I switch to 2D mode. My headset is the Pimax Dream Air. I know LukeRoss also owns this device. Could you please fix it so that when using Oculus mode on the Dream Air, the in-game UI is visible while in Mono mode? Thanks a lot. Also, when I use the No Letterbox and Better Subtitles mod, it successfully removes the letterbox black bars, and most of the UI elements including dialogue show up normally. However, dialogue that appears outside of cutscenes is completely invisible.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 6, 2026

Do you have the lighthouse version of the Dream Air? If so, try using the Sboys3 driver to make it SteamVR native. That should allow you to use OpenXR runtime which might fix the UI issues. PImax headsets often have UI issues with the REAL framework, I don't think it is something Luke can fix on his side.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 6, 2026

I don't know for sure. If you try it and it doesn't let me know :) You might be able to refund it if it doesn't work. Not sure about GOG though. They don't have the 2 hour limit like Steam but it doesn't look like they let you refund for any and all reasons either. But it technically would be a situation where the game is not working as you expected it to 🤷‍♂️

I'd like to write my opinion on the game on Steam, but obviously I'd write that I play it in VR thanks to Luke's framework... but do you think writing something like that could harm Luke in any way?

Brandon(Post Maester) · May 6, 2026

Well, there is no telling. It seems very unlikely and it is not a big secret you have to keep. Is it a good review of the experience? 😂 I'd actually recommend holding off until Luke fixes some stuff like the UI, because then it will be a better experience if people are motivated to try it. Otherwise, if you want to write a review, go for it. I mean, I am going to make a video and put it on YouTube publicly. The new version should also work with the latest game patch. So, you don't need to downgrade anymore. Unless you are using some mods that haven't updated or something like that.

Who else still hasn’t updated the R.E.A.L. VR software since the last working CyberPunk version published before (C)D-day? Luke man, we gotta work something out gang. The thought of updating and losing access to Night City has me stuck between a rock and a hard place! Probably just a me problem though. 😭

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 5, 2026

Huh??? 🤔 You don't have to update any games to the new version if they still work, including CP. Just use it for newly supported games. You can update other games as well though. Just don't try to use it for Cyberpunk. Make sure to hang on to the version you have that supports Cyberpunk!

Hello! Since last evening, I’ve been having an issue with Crimsord Desert. The game launches correctly, and the intro/loading sequence starts properly in VR and 3D. When the actual game begins, everything loads normally for a few seconds and I’m still in VR, but then suddenly the display switches to 2D. After that, I can’t get back into VR. I tried disabling and re-enabling VR, but it had no effect. I also tried forcing 2D in the settings, but that didn’t change anything either: it still stays in 2D. I also ran `real_config.bat` again, but it didn’t fix the issue. So at the moment I’m stuck. Everything was working perfectly until yesterday evening. Do you have any idea what could be causing this or how I could fix it?

Just completed Doom Dark Ages with all achievements with Lukes framework. Fantastic game and experience. Thanks again Luke and really hope you can do the same for the DLC coming this summer. Still playing through the massive KCD2 and Avatar at the moment so I think I will hold off on Crimson, only so many hours to play in the week unfortunately.

David Horton · May 2, 2026

Yep it looks like the update last night broke something. When I start Crimson Desert, it is in VR mode, but as soon as the saved game loads it switches to flat mode. I see people saying to roll the game version back, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that (I'm not very technical) - so I would appreciate an updated file, thank you!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 2, 2026

I'm sure Luke will update it but no ETA. I'll break this down super simple if you want to roll back. Open any web browser. Copy and paste steam://open/console Steam will open and show a new CONSOLE tab at the top. In the Steam Console window, copy and paste this exact command, then press Enter: download_depot 3321460 3321461 2936467465032599215 Find the downloaded files (They will of course take time to download) The files are now here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_3321460\depot_3321461z You just drag the files from inside that game folder, into the updated game folder. Make sure you have enough space on your C drive for the game to download.

O
Ome Omy Productions · May 2, 2026

Luke, they updated to 1.0.0.5 and the mod is 99% functioning right until the game begins and the screen goes flat in VR. Up until that moment, the blue vortex is in 3D, the intro animation in 3D and then boom… flat 2D in game.

B
Billy Bloggs · May 2, 2026

Can confirm that patch is problematic. CD loads fine and renders all of the loading sections perfectly, but then drops to 2D screen when the player would normally get control. Cannot switch back or restart VR. annoying. Wish they'd patch on a weekday!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 2, 2026

It breaks the camera patch. You will have to downgrade for now. Turn off auto updates and when you see an update, drag the current game folder somewhere else. Update and if it breaks, you can just drag all the files from the copy of the previous version into the updated Steam game folder. That is the easiest workaround. Steam won't bug you until the next update. I put the info for downgrading in my post below yours. Let me know if that doesn't work for some reason, so I can look it up if it needs corrections :)

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 2, 2026

THE LATEST GAME PATCH BREAKS CRIMSON DESERT! You will need to downgrade for now until Luke releases a fix. Not sure when that will be though. The simplest workaround is to drag or make a copy of the game folder (before you update) To a different location. You can then update the game through Steam. After it is done, just replace the files inside the updated game folder with the files from the copy of the game folder you put somewhere else. This just worked for me no problem. Make sure to disable automatic game updates. If you have already updated. Follow these steps. I just used AI really quick, so hopefully it got the correct depot number etc. If it doesn't work or something is wrong, please let me know and I will look them up and/or change it. Here is the simplest, exact step-by-step guide to roll back Crimson Desert to version 1.04.02 on Steam (Windows). This uses the official Steam depot method. It will download the exact old version (about 120 GB). Important Warnings First You need 150 GB+ free space on your C: drive (default location). Back up your current game folder and save files first (just in case). After rollback, disable auto-updates for the game. Saves from newer versions might not work perfectly with 1.04.02. Exact Steps Open the Steam Console Open any web browser. Copy and paste this into the address bar, then press Enter: steam://open/console Steam will open and show a new CONSOLE tab at the top. Download version 1.04.02 In the Steam Console window, copy and paste this exact command, then press Enter: download_depot 3321460 3321461 2936467465032599215 The download starts immediately (no progress bar in console). Watch your internet download speed or task manager — it will take a while (120+ GB). When finished, the console will say: "Depot download complete" Find the downloaded files The files are now here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_3321460\depot_3321461 Drag or copy all the game files from inside the depot file you just downloaded, into the updated game folder in your Steam library and chose to replace. This replaces all the files with the previous version. Disable auto-updates (very important!) In Steam, right-click Crimson Desert → Properties → Updates. Set Automatic updates to "Only update this game when I launch it" or "High Priority" → change to "Do not automatically update this game". Check it worked Launch the game and look at the version number in the main menu or bottom corner — it should say 1.04.02.

C
Chris Younan · May 2, 2026

I'm currently using steamcmd to use the download_depot cmd so I can use a different drive, as not enough space. Edit: This didn't work at all. There was some dll missing, and you cannot bypass the update like this without editing .acf file, and once you do that... it should work theoretically. However because the update file is corrupted this way, if something goes wrong, it's now working on a 64 gig update. Fck me. I'm on my second attempt at this.

Don't know yet. I am moving the game to my backup disk drive before updating to find out 🫣 Whenever you see an update, you can drag the game folder to another location, then after it updates (if broken) you can just drag the files from the backup into the updated folder. Should move you back to the older version. For now, you will just have to use the Steam Rollback for the game if it is broken. You can use your AI of choice and search something like this. "How to Roll back Crimson Desert to version 1.04.02 on Steam". There are also YouTube videos on rolling back Steam games if you would rather go that route. Or.... Option B — Replace your current game (uses less space) Go to your normal game folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crimson Desert Delete or rename everything inside it. Copy everything from the depot folder (Step 3) into this game folder. Launch the game normally from Steam. Disable auto-updates (very important!) Hi Luke, I think the current Crimson Desert VR implementation is limited by effective PPD on high-FOV headsets. I’m using a Pimax Crystal Super with an RTX 5090. The game is already set to 3900×3900 and Optimize HFOV gives me about 20 PPD, but the image still looks soft. I still have performance headroom. Would it be possible to add higher square render resolutions?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 30, 2026

You can put a custom resolution in the user_engine_option_save.xml file located in AppData\Local\Pearl Abyss\CD\save The line where it says what resolution you are currently using, you can change that to another 1:1 resolution, like 4200x4200 for example. Be careful to keep a consistent frame rate or this game may have issues, especially in cities or when fighting big groups of enemies.

Hey Brandon, you mentioned the busted gaze aiming in Death Stranding 2 should be fixed in the latest Early Release Version, but I just grabbed the 4.24.2 file (unzipped it and rerun the config script, with Keep), but the gaze aiming is still not working for me (e.g. aiming a grenade or the boomerang, the reticle follows the gaze, but the actual destination of the grenade still doesn't follow it, it's controlled by the stick).

Hey Brandon, that looks surely nice but I am wondering, what does it look like when it's overcast or at night around light sources? Because the abysmal flickering with anything lower than DLAA keeps me from getting higher than 3k and I am playing in Mono as always. I have fiddled for days now. It looks sweet but 3,6k would look sweeter. But that flickering without DLAA that is sometimes everywhere is the worst I have seen. Did you find a secret knob to get rid of it? Sorry if I missed this info posted somewhere here but with the current version of the mod what is the best way to disable the mod to resume flat gameplay? I am hoping to be able to swap between flat and VR versions of Crimson Desert by updating a .dll to a .old file or something like that if possible.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 28, 2026

rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_.dll to keep the framework from injecting, but you will also need to rename the user_engine_option_save.xml files to switch between them. You can find those files in: AppData\Local\Pearl Abyss\CD\save The one with ori added to the name is the games original settings file. The other one is custom for VR.

M
Miguel Plylar-Moore · April 27, 2026

Just for my FYI in case I’m missing something for CD (initial release is jank as F but playable….impressive really). 1) DLSS (S) implementation isn’t working correct? 2) Slight fisheye distortion is supposed to be there for now I’m guessing. 3) Luke I know you hate doing it but for the love of all that is holy, please think about working your magic to separate the CD HUD from game play ( I’d wish for all the games that don’t but CD is the first it’s really bothered me)…..anywho great work regardless.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 27, 2026

Shouldn't be any fisheye distortion. Are you using OpenXR runtime? unless the fov is possibly still off for the Index. Are you using the latest EA version? Yes, it is an early release and I'm sure he will improve on things. I don't know if he will separate the UI or not but I'm sure he will try to fix it so things don't move out of view, and it doesn't flicker etc.

Hi Luke, Thank you as always — I’ve had such a great VR experience thanks to your work. I’ve been supporting you continuously, but for about 10 months I didn’t have time to play, so I couldn’t really enjoy it. Recently, I purchased the Galaxy XR and updated everything to the latest version. I also applied the CD update using the BAT file. However, when I launch the game, it only shows in 2D mode. Even when I set it to SteamVR through Virtual Desktop, it still runs in 2D. I can see the initial keybinding screen, but it remains in 2D and doesn’t switch into VR mode at all. Also, I followed the graphics settings from your previous post, but the issue still persists. In this case, what would you recommend I try? I’m always rooting for you!

Yes, that should be fixed in the latest Early Release version! I spent hours building roads and then I barely used them :) I was trying to do my part in the multiplayer aspect but then I realized why nobody else seemed to be building them. They do kind of help in the desert, but they aren't really any faster than just going over a mountain most of the time. They don't seem to be strategically placed to really help shorten travel between areas. If you are having fun, by all means, keep at it. But don't get burnt out doing all the extras 😉

It is a bit misleading if you are using Mono. Most people aren't going to want to go that route :) Plus Mono is always going to look better with the same given settings because there is no stereo 3d, it is only the view from one eye. I'm not saying it is bad to use Mono, I think it is a good fallback option still if you just can't get something to look good on your system. You are still inside the game world, I just don't think the majority of people want to settle for no Stereo 3d.

I’ve been testing the game for a few hours, trying different configurations and carefully going through both Luke Ross’ post and the feedback from others here. My setup: RTX 5080, 9800X3D, 96 GB RAM Resolution: 3080×3080 Anti-aliasing: DLAA with DLSS 4.5 L Anything other than DLAA introduces very noticeable shimmering (I assume that’s the right term). It’s still present with DLAA, but significantly reduced. In the graphics settings, everything is maxed out except for ray tracing, DLSS ray reconstruction, NVIDIA latency boost, and frame generation. In my experience, the rest of the settings have minimal impact on performance—and even less on what really matters visually. In the mod overlay, I’m running it at 1/3. I assume the mod will continue to be polished by Luke (hopefully), and will improve over time. But as of today, there are a few issues that prevent what could be an absolutely breathtaking VR experience—both visually and gameplay-wise—from reaching that level. Right now, I’d describe it as “acceptable,” although being able to play this game like this is already a huge step forward in itself. First issue: When switching to first-person view (by moving the camera forward until it reaches the head—this is the correct method, right?), the perspective does become first-person, but it’s positioned extremely low, almost at ground level, as if I were crawling. I’ve tried all available camera and accessibility options but couldn’t fix it. However, I’ve seen YouTube videos where the camera is at a proper height in first person. How is this solved? Is an external mod required? Second issue: During cutscenes, there are two quite large black bars at the top and bottom of the image. This severely limits the already restricted field of view, to the point where it feels like you’re looking through a narrow slit. Is this intended behavior, or do I have something misconfigured? Third issue (shimmering): There’s noticeable shimmering around the character, NPCs, hair, and distant objects. DLAA helps, but it’s still very apparent. Even increasing the resolution to 3400×3400 (which becomes unplayable due to low FPS and latency) doesn’t eliminate it. So it doesn’t seem to be resolution-related—PPD should already be above ~25 at that point, which is around or even higher than the Quest 3’s maximum, if I’m not mistaken. Is there any way to mitigate this further? Another thing: Even when standing still, interaction prompts (like “Press X” to talk or pick up items) constantly shift slightly from side to side. I assume this is related to AER, but it surprises me because in other Luke Ross mods (like RDR2), I didn’t notice this behavior—at least not to this extent. If these issues get ironed out, in my opinion this could easily become one of the best VR experiences available right now. It would be great if we could all share similar experiences and findings here. A couple more notes: - I’m using Virtual Desktop. Disabling color vibrance results in much more natural, less oversaturated colors—just in case it helps anyone. - Is this mod compatible with ReShade? Maybe there are presets that could help mask some of these remaining issues? Thanks again, Luke, for bringing this to us—and hopefully you’ll keep improving it.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 26, 2026

If you are already using Max lighting, turn RT on because it helps a lot with the shimmering, although RT has a much higher performance cost with max lighting set. You can move DLSS to performance though and see how that looks for you. Also, update to the latest DLSS version and try preset M. I find that this looks pretty good for me, although of course, there is still some shimmering. I think that may just come with the games lighting and the way they implement DLSS, unless there is more Luke can do to stabilize that. They could end up implementing DLSS better in a future patch as well, which hopefully helps.

Check to make sure frame gen is off, it has been stuck on for some people. You can rename dxgi.dll to dxgi_.dll to stop framework from injecting and check settings. Just rename back after. Also make sure there is not a pop up window trying to run Oculus Debug Tool. If you get the pop up, try closing it first. If that doesn't work you will need to follow the Post instructions for that issue. Always good to read over the known issues at the end, they get updated :)

This is a bit of a tricky/rough one out of the gate. I will say there are plenty of performance complaints with some games using UEVR as well though. So, comparing this to Reshade 3d quality (the 3d itself is not as good in Reshade, and it does have some issues itself) would also apply to a number of UEVR titles. Really depends on the game and your system/setup. I have actually gotten it to look pretty good overall today, I think, on my system. With a mostly stable 80fps at 3920x3920. I have to lock it to 80 (Using Legacy at 90hz) because it gets rid of a lot of the frame time issues this game seems to have, but not entirely. Plus, I would dip below 90 occasionally with higher settings, so I just set it to 80 to be safer. It is a very early release version, so it will improve over time. As will the game optimization........hopefully. For instance, I loved Clair Obscur in UEVR but the game definitely had performance and visual issues that I just had to live with. This is not meant as an insult, I love UEVR too, it is just the reality of a lot of AAA modern games right now. Trying to push all the new lighting tech etc.

S is the options screen. GOT is the same. And when I take off the headset {Q2} the text on the flat screen are too small to read. I have tried different res and changing HUD sizes to no avail. Any ideas, THX for the great mods, especially this one so soon!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 25, 2026

Yeah, the UI in this one still need some fixing :) It is a very early release. I haven't tried GOT in a long while, but the HUD sliders worked for me in that game. Granted the UI was a bit large starting out which made it harder to adjust properly. I'll try to jump in again and check it out. The Aiming HUD slider definitely works in CD for me to move the minimap to where I can see it.

Brozgar · April 25, 2026

Sorry to be "that guy", but I ended up refunding the game after trying out the first combat encounter. But before I explain the disappointment with the game itself, there is a number of VR specific issues: 1. The camera is just a decoupled version, like in the old games. I really hoped that the new free-roll camera and especially the combination of both (which works so well with aiming in contrast to the free roll) would be a new standard, but I guess it's not as straightforward to add its support in all games? Because otherwise I don't know why would you not add it. Especially here, in the very first encounter the camera went way too far up several times, so that I couldn't even see what's happening around my character. It's especially troublesome with this kind of maps, where you have hills that move your camera by force when you rotate it. Luke, if it's not the technical limitation, please bring the camera settings from Death Stranding 2 to all games - it's just a perfect set of options! (well, it would be "perfecter" if we could also toggle 3DOF like in Indiana Jones to fix the aiming issues with the free roll). 2. Only one UI slider worked for me - the distance. Not sure why, usually it works fine in other games, but here I could only do that, other sliders don't change anything, it seems. As a result I had to move it further away to be able to see everything well in Quest 3, but then I couldn't quite see the button hints and could barely tell names for the dialogues, for example. I maxed out all the in-game UI size settings, although maybe I left the font min size setting at default, because otherwise there was some overlapping. But also the alignment is a bit off and most likely it's due to the distance changes I made - It's extremely hard to figure out how to hover on the character I want, since the icon is like 2-3 meters away from where I'm pointing. 3. 1/2 and 1/3 modes have the same issue as in other games when you rotate the camera around the character part of it is kinda disappearing/flickering. As if there are frames without the character getting mixed up. Hard to explain, but I think it's a known issue, had it also in Spider man 2, for example. Legacy works rather well in contrast, but the UI is getting a double vision, so the text is a bit too blurry to read sometimes. So I ended up using mono, which also gets rid of some artefacts, which are more noticeable in this title. 4. FOV sliders don't work with Virtual Desktop, but that's an old and known issue. Still, I'm curious about the performance boost, because using VD FOV sliders instead didn't give me much of a difference at 70%, while making the game look more 2D (no surprise with Mono). You mention 2k by 2k resolution in your tests, but the game looks way too pixelated at this setting. It is especially painful to use 15PPD after getting used to 35PPD in other titles. But nothing to be done here, I just wanted to point that out. Performance also was just as you warned - pretty bad on my RTX 5090, Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 64 gigs of RAM. It's playable if you lower the settings though, but I'm not sure if there's much to be amazed about graphically then (Death Stranding 2 looks far better to my taste, but then again - I only saw the first half an hour of the game, as the rest of the time was spent in attempts to tweak the settings and restarting the game, which made me listen to the same boring dialogues several times). But not much REALVR can do about that, of course, let's just hope it gets better with the updates of the game. As for the game itself, I know it gets much better later on and the world looks fantastic, but the beginning is just so weak. I'd rather not have any dialogues at this house at the start than have what we've got. I knew the story is not the strong side of the game, so I was hoping the combat would blow me away, especially with Dualsense. But all I got was just some weak rumbling, no haptics, no adaptive triggers so far. Hopefully it comes with a bow, but as I was getting close to 2 hours refund time limit I decided to not continue at this time. To appreciate its complexity it seems I'll need at least dozens of hours of playtime first and I'm not sure I would enjoy getting there at this point. I'll definitely reconsider when it's at least at 50% discount - the quality I saw didn't really match the price. And I hope by the time it's on discount the performance will also get improved and hopefully REALVR would also work better with this game.

Thanks for the detailed writeup! I will implement the new camera system with the variable world tilt, but there are other issues like the flickering HUD that need to be dealt with first. The slider not working is not normal. It works for me (normal HUD during cutscenes and aiming HUD during gameplay)

Spent a day with CD. Running most settings on high/cinematic at about 25ppd on q3/5080. looks great. Swapped out dlss for a newer version and preset J which seems a little nicer and more performant to me. Couldn't rule out placebo tho. Also running nicely on PSVR2 with some fov culling via steam VR. I do get the issue where my minimap HUD drifts in and out of view randomly. That aside, It's an absolute joy in VR. You just see and experience so much more than flat. Thanks Luke. May all your past detractors never get the chance to play it this way!

Brandon(Post Maester) · April 25, 2026

M is supposed to be really good but also eats up the most performance. Having a solid frame rate helps a lot right now quite a bit. Even using Legacy. I just tried M and it actually seemed to be quite a bit better for me with the latest DLSS version. That and locking my frame rate with Riva Tuner to avoid the games frame time issues actually got it looking quite decent using DLSS balanced. Still some flickering on foliage but looks a lot more stable.

anyone on a Reverb G2 getting an oculus debug window pop up when injecting? If I close it, it still injects ok but every time I change resolution in game and the mod re injects, the window pops up again. Selecting openxr as runtime in the mod or leaving on auto, it still occurs. Minor bug but worth a mention ;D

hey is there any way to get reshade addons to work in vr

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 25, 2026

Just depends on what they use. It is based on a much-outdated Reshade version at this point. So, stuff that has been around since then and some new stuff works but some does not. Just drop in the Reshade folder and preset ini and see if it loads up. Don't actually install Reshade itself. You can see in the RealVR64.log file if things fail to load or if they don't show up in the Reshade tab. If you mean addons like shader toggler, no, they won't work.

Hola, I'm not sure if there is a troubleshooting section on here. I recently subscribed and have been trying this for first time with Hogwarts Legacy. I'm on BSB 1. When the game loads it had me switch to open xr instead of auto to use steam and my open xr runtime is set to steam vr. The opening screen of the game is in vr, but once I choose my save the game is only loading and playable in the 2d floating screen. If I hit the windows key the game will show in vr and looks great but is not playable. When i switch back to the game it reverts to the 2d floating screen. Do I need to switch to 3d in the real vr menu somewhere? Also if I'm supposed to ask this somewhere else let me know! Gracias!

Just trying out CD with a Pimax Dream Air using the Sboys native steamvr driver. I have found that the oculus debug tool keeps starting up when the RealVR mod activates or changes are made in it. I have to alt-tab out and shut down the debug tool to get the game to render in VR. Is this a known issue that will be fixed? I saw that someone else had an issue with this and their solution was to uninstall the Meta software. I do have a Quest 3 (that I don't use much anymore) so I don't want to actually uninstall the meta software.

I got everything working and spent this morning playing with some of the recommended settings and am amazed at how well just about everything works. I do have a 5090 so I used Luke's settings with Ray Reconstruction off and using 1/2 rate for the extra fps. The biggest problem I have is with the map, but only with most of the abyss nexus points not showing up. I have way over 100 hours so I can find some of the ones I remember but I was hoping there's an easier way until this gets fixed. So far I'm just using an online map to get the general idea then move my cursor around until I find them, which works but can take a long time. Thanks again Luke!!

B

Use the 2d screen for the map. If you look in the CD tab of the REAL overlay, Luke added options to set a keyboard shortcut or enable the gamepad shortcut, which works well.

Got to say this game is beautiful and funn!!! Im loving it on the BigScreen Beyond 2. Definitely not able to run DLAA with Raytracing/ Ray reconstruction. Did get it to launch but frame rate was horrible on an 4080super/ I713700f build but tweaking the settings im able to get it for the most part maintaining the 75fps. Personally I don't see too much difference between fsr 3.1, dlss 4.0 and dlss 4.5. 4.5 looks abit better but is less performant so I use the dlss4.0 or fsr3.1 in balanced with low-med settings and keep the resolution above my headsets display for supersampling . Looks crisp enough and not having crashes like I did with dlaa and raytracing! I also for this one use mono. The full stereoscopic3d effect doesn't make too much or a difference to me and it runs smother in mono so thanks for leaving that option when I know most people use the other 3. This is why I stayed subbed through all this, I knew you would still have supporters of your hard work and this was one I was looking for. Having hard time getting back into gaming lately but this game grabbed my attention so happy you chose to make a VR functionality for this. Thanks again Luke ❤️

**Update - see reply below** Ok, so after a day of tinkering, I have what I think works best (for me at least). Hopefully this might help somebody. I tried different codex and bitrates in Virtual Desktop Dedicated 6e router 6 feet away). Nothing made any significant difference there. Using 1/2 rate in Luke's overlay. In game settings, this was critical...if I had ANY upscaling on it was a blurry, jittery mess. This included both upscaling options in settings. I had all to OFF. Then it was a matter of finding the sweet spot between resolution and framerate. Too many frames meant smooth camera, but blurry resolution and vice versa. In game menu resolution of 2912x2912 gave me near 60 fps while keeping everything looking fairly decent. Most visual settings were Ultra or Cinematic. Ray Tracing off. I've come to terms this game is simply not going to look good in VR. Unfortunate since I'm on a 5090, 64GB, 7-9800x3d rig.

W
Wilson Ng · April 24, 2026

I’m on a 5090 too, so u find the graphic better without DLSS ? At the moment I still find DLSS + DLAA is better..

S
Sven Hilbert · April 24, 2026

Hey Guys, i have to be honest here. I have a 4090 with 9800x3d and using a valve index. I can play the game flat with 2k everything to the max and also using reshade addon with renodx with all the bells and whistles cranked at a stable 138 fps with frame gen and this game looks just incredible. Sometimes you see that the engine has some flaws with shadows and flickering but thats only 5-10% of the time playing. I really wanted to try this vr mod because it sounds wonderful to see this epic world in 3d but to be honest it looks like absolute trash. I dialed in some different graphic settings minimum to maximum, raytracing on and off, lighting quality min to max, i tried different combinations of resolution and dlss settings but the best picture quality and at playable state was around 3088x3088 with medium settings, with lighting low and raytracing off dlss 4.0 dlaa. i know that my index is a low resolution headset these days but thats something i can live with. My problem with this game is not the resolution per say, it is the non stop flickering and grainy noisy lighting and shadows hell that you see amplyfied in a vr headset. The flickering hud and the map and other things can surely be handled over the time by luke, but my honest question is what the hell of a nasa pc do you need to play this game in vr. The only thing i can upgrade to is a 5090? Ok rant is over. I am just frustrated that VR as a whole is at an all time low and the only ones that try to light a candle for VR is luke´s and the praydog´s VR mods. And yes i really feel sry for you luke after all this drama you gone through. Its just sad that you cant win against these mega corporations that rule the world and can do whatever they want. What i really wanna know is, please brandon can you make a optimization guide or something and tell me what settings and mods i have to install and tweak to get this going? Cheers and thanks for reading, Love you all:)

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 24, 2026

Luke included the ability to set a keybaord shortcut or use a gamepad shortcut for the 2d screen. Go to CD tab in the REAL overlay and pick one to use for the map. The gamepad shortcut works well. You will need it for the map.

Alessandro D'Amico · April 24, 2026

Hey guys, yesterday I ran my first tests of Crimson in VR and I gotta admit, the first few minutes were pretty frustrating. I started with all settings maxed out and max field of view, and the game was basically unplayable. Eventually I spent some time tweaking everything and in my opinion I reached the best possible quality compromise. I did notice the limitations of stereoscopy though, even if when it’s active the immersion is beautiful. I’m leaving you my settings here, maybe it’ll save you some time if you don’t feel like messing with all the options: • The two new FOV sliders should be kept around 0.350 and 0.350. If you push them higher, performance tanks unless you have a top-tier graphics card. • In my opinion the best way to play it is in mono rendering. Stereo has way too many issues: text swimming, annoying flickering… • I set all graphics settings to maximum. • Ray tracing strictly off: it hits performance hard and the visual gain is almost nothing. • DLSS doesn’t seem well implemented in this game, so I keep it off. • LP Scaling off, internal resolution at 2000x2000 and I’m comfortably sitting at 60-70 FPS. My PC: I9 13700k + Rtx 4070ti + Rift S

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 24, 2026

Really depends on your system, although RT only seems to cost a few fps for me on a 5090, if that. Ray Reconstruction is quite expensive as is using DLAA. Max lighting is another setting that has a decent performance cost but seems to enable some things in the background that really improve overall quality. A lot of the settings don't honestly seem to have much difference in the way of performance unless turned up to max possibly. Like Ultra and High lighting cost essentially the same, while Cinematic cost maybe a few fps more and Max has a much more substantial cost. I am running a mix of high up to cinematic settings using DLSS Quality at 3920x3920 with Legacy AER and I get 80-90fps pretty solid. Sometimes it will dip down a bit more depending on how many characters are on the screen and what I am doing. It is a bit of a tricky one to find a settling point with.

hi Bradon, i have a very silly question here. so now I run the game and it will show on both my monitor and my headset right, so does it mean actually the PC is doing the rendering twice? so if there is a way to not project to the monitor will increase the performance?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · April 23, 2026

No, the monitor rendering doesn't affect the headset performance. I actually tried that route years ago with an HDMI plug to simulate a monitor and I gained zero performance. That did work for me for SkyrimVR though, I was able to gain some performance by eliminating my monitor.

I had this issue before. As long as your able to see the game in your headset then the VR framework is active so the issue is with Steam VR. I am curious about one thing though as Frame Generation doesn't work. Since I was forced to use OpenVR as OpenXR was giving me crashes I found out that motion smoothing on Vector based was giving me the best experience I have seen so far. You mostly have some artifacts on close objects but that is it. To me it works better than the DLSS approach. As long as your GPU can maintain a solid 45FPS it would feel like 200FPS on vector based motion smoothing. This is still on a mixed reality G2. So my question, why is this avenue not being explored more? Is OpenVR really that bad or is it only working on mixed reality HMDs?

G
Gamer Couple · April 23, 2026

If I were to have one suggestion: I understand why you make mods based off of a vote. It's a democratic process. The only problem with that, is if people sign up because you have modded a lot of FPS games, and Ubisoft games, you will likely almost always get more votes for the same type of games.. not an actual poll of what the general public would be interested in. I don't think the current model would bring in as many new patrons. My suggestion, would be to continue votes, but also branch out to other types of games, that you think could bring in new audiences. Crimson Desert is exactly that type of thing

I knew you'd pick this one. I decided to wait and here it is. Delivering once again and as usual. Worth the premium and then some!

When a new game is supported, you will always download it from the Early Access post. The version there will get updated. https://www.patreon.com/posts/152734106

Hey Luke, awesome! So many of us have been hoping for this! Wonder if it will show up on Game Pass someday - speaking of which, I know you've been SUPER busy but wondering if at some point you'll for sure let us know whether or not you'll get KCD2 working on gamepass? Brandon said you weren't sure as of yet - but hoping to know sometime down the road. So happy youre back!

I might be able to fix the GamePass version of KCD2, although I haven't gotten around to it yet. But as I wrote in the post, I really can't afford to do this anymore. Too many games and updates; the compatibility matrix is simply becoming unmanageable. So, starting with CD, only one version per game will be supported, most likely the Steam version :-/
