Many quality-of-life improvements to CD in VR

Yes, I'm talking about https://store.steampowered.com/app/3321460/Crimson_Desert/

I spent an indecent amount of hours on this one, and it's starting to look almost like a native VR game now. In fact, it's arguably the best-looking game you can experience in virtual reality these days, although it wants a beast of a PC in order to run at high resolution and frame rate with ray tracing activated. But which game doesn't, really? Ray tracing is being pushed so hard, yet basically no consumer GPUs are ready for it.

And of course in VR we pay double the price: literally, because the card has to render two eye views, and figuratively, because NVIDIA does not allow us to use their Frame Generation hardware, which is the only thing that makes RT remotely viable on current generation GPUs.

So... back to CD. First of all: I fixed the UI for good. Everything draws in its proper place now; HUD elements are gathered in front of you, while world markers are at their correct depth and stick to the objects or NPCs they belong to.

Honestly, the only gripe I have with the GUI right now is that the all-important hints the game gives you (like, which buttons you're supposed to press, and in which order, when you need to use a new ability or combo), are confined to a very small area in the top-left corner of your field of view, and drawn with a tiny font, which makes reading them and especially making out the button glyphs quite challenging. Please write back in the comments if you can find any third-party mod that allows you to fix that issue satisfactorily, and if you include a short guide on how to configure its settings I will add it to the post.

The R.E.A.L. VR framework will automatically switch to 2D rendering inside the headset when menus are detected, so the map, skill tree, inventory and so on will no longer show the glitches and usability problems that used to require manual switching every time you wanted to access the world map for example.

You asked for it, so I ported over the new camera system that I first implemented for BG3, giving you more control over the degree of tilting that the horizon is allowed to have. You will have three presets to negotiate the tradeoff between feeling queasy and having to crane your neck up and down ;-)

I fully rewrote the frame synchronization code for this game to get much better stability, especially when DL(S)SS is active and your GPU is pushed to the max and struggling to hit the refresh rate. The sporadic rendering hiccups present in the initial version, where it looked like the left and right eye wanted to swap places for a moment and DL(S)SS appeared to desync, should be a thing of the past.

I also fixed photo mode, so that it renders in beautiful 3D while at the same time allowing you full freedom in controlling the camera, even the field of view. Even though photo mode might not be a priority in most games, this one has such breathtaking vistas that you'll probably want to take some nicely framed shots to send postcards home!

If you haven't started your playthrough of CD in VR yet, then I'd say it's time to do so now []-D

Get all the gory details in my game-specific post, and the link for the latest Early Access release of the R.E.A.L VR framework can always be found here these days. Enjoy! Carry many cats around!!

Hi. 2 things, first why cant i access High on Life post? I cant find it on PC and on android it says I must upgrade membership (like i wasnt a member already)? Another thing, why is High on Life acting like i was holding up arrow? I tried to turn off every peripheral but it didnt help. Thank you...

Luke hasn't redone that post yet. All the old game posts are hidden because he is redoing them under the new format. I'll try HOL later to see if I have the same issue. The character is just moving forware/up all the time? Or the camera?

I have the following problems in the game are there ways to improve the experience? I went from “well I don’t understand what it is well I’m going” to “I have a thousand things next to vigour that weren’t there before and you don’t understand what the fuck they are”

Can you add Crimson Desert-style cinematic letterbox/comfort mode for cutscenes to other R.E.A.L. VR games?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · June 5, 2026

He just didn't remove the letterboxing for CD, which he doesn't for other games often. 007, there is the option in the REAL overlay you can uncheck to get them back.

A
Alessandro D'Amico · May 28, 2026

Problems so far. Writings and mini-maps are too small. Opening the documents is impossible without the 2d. When you feed the animals at the beginning you see the fondness bar and then no more. You also have these problems I’ve been playing for this 3S!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 29, 2026

You can only gain so much trust at a time with animals, so maybe that is that issue? Do you only see the trust meter one time and then not a second time? The mini map is pretty small naturally, which is why there is a mod on Nexus to make it bigger 😉 https://www.nexusmods.com/crimsondesert/mods/275?tab=files All the setting menus and such should be in 2d, which displays them properly. If that is what you are talking about.

Hello Mods/Support, I have much success with many different LR VR Mods...man, so awesome, thanks for all your work to bring this to us! Now, I'm getting around to attempting CD to run in VR. Essentially, I got the mod into the right directories, I followed all the recommended settings from the blog post, I see VR enabled during the scene walking the load in to your last save point. Once I'm in game, the VR loses its hook, & I'm stuck in flat screen. Any suggestions on how to resolve this? thanks. note*: I'm on a 4090.

Brandon(Post Maester) · May 28, 2026

Make sure you are using the version of REAL that Luke put out a couple days ago. The game was broken by an update, and it sounds like you might be using the previous version. Drop the new files in and run the config.bat file again to update.

Hi Luke, Just wanted to say I’m having an absolute blast with the framework. I’ve been burning through my backlog of games I never thought I’d actually get around to playing (already finished seven titles and counting). I think the framework works especially great with older games. It lets you crank up the graphics and see those worlds in their full glory again. So I hope you won’t focus only on newer titles and will keep giving some older ones love too. A couple of humble recommendations: Prey 2017 just a fantastic game, and Control, while we wait for the new one. Anyway, honestly, I’ll play pretty much anything you add to the framework, so you do you. Thanks again for bringing back my passion for gaming.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 26, 2026

I agree, seeing older games get the VR treatment often gives them new life and is a real treat for us older gamers 😊

(Probably asked this in the wrong place originally)In horizon zero dawn -I get constant weird hand and feet glitching on characters in cutscenes. According to what is written here I should turn of cinematic letterboxing in the display menu but I cant find it.. There is also a mention of nvidia reflex low latency which I also cannot find in the menu. Is the guide outdated? Apart from the cutscenes the game runs and looks great! But if there is an updated way of fixing the cutscenes that would be great to know since it distracts alot from the experience.- I just realized I do not have the remastered version but the old one.. probably answers my questions mostly! I will probably get the remastered one, didnt know it existed until now!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 26, 2026

Yes, I'd go with the Remastered version. It has DLSS which is quite helpful and it looks much better overall.

I have been playing Avatar Frontiers of Pandora non stop for a couple of days now. Finally after 2 years or so I nailed the settings for my system and this game is so freakin great in vr.. I am absolutely blown away.. I regularly feel shivers down the spine and several times I have been of the verge of tears. That rarely happens to me in games but its just so f'in good.. All that said I wonder if there is something I am missing when it comes to aiming while on the Ikran. I dont understand how to hit enemies. I can hover right in front of an AMP and I have seen some random shots connect the times I have tried. Is this something I have to live with or is there maybe something I just dont get or some settings I can adjust? I do not have aim assist on btw. Thank you for yet a marvelous experience in VR!! After playing in VR I thought I had to check how the game looked with max settings on my tv and I was shocked that it was not really that much of a difference! Apart from the fact that it was flat, boring and not at all enticing :D

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 25, 2026

Luke redid the cameras after the last big game update for AFOP, so aiming from the Ikran should actually be pretty accurate at this point. As long as you are using a version of REAL that was released at or after that point.

I managed to roll back and get FPS cam mod working its super cool. Is there any way to get the resolution higher in the ini files? I know I would need to turn other settings down but manually editing to native crystal light resolution?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 24, 2026

You can put a custom resolution in the user_engine_option_save.xml file. It is located in: AppData\Local\Pearl Abyss\CD\save Look for this line: OptionInt2Vector Name="_viewportSize" _value="3920 3920" and put whatever resolution you want in there. Yes, of course, you will have to mindful of performance and frame stability :) and it should also be a 1:1 resolution.

Hey folks, I keep having this issue with Dark Souls 3 where it CTDs rather often. First few times, a couple of versions back, was on reload after death. But just yesterday with the latest version, it crashed when initiating some random combat encounter. Going to try a 2nd fresh install and see, but has this happened it anyone else?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 23, 2026

Have you tried disabling Steam input? Though I think that would cause more than an occasional issue if it was the culprit. Next time you get a crash, feel free to put a copy of your RealVR64.log file on pastebin and post a link here. Maybe there will be a clue in there. You can also check Windows Event Viewer to see if it gives you any crash info.

Cd broke after the recent update. If you want to roll back for now, here is simple instructions on Steam. Open Steam Console (Win + R) paste this in the box: steam://open/console Paste this command in Steam console: download_depot 3321460 3321461 8432047928063861989 It will download to your C or main drive. After it downloads, just drop the files from inside that folder into the updated Crimson Desert folder in your Steam games folder. Edit: I had to clean this up, but it should work now. You may need to restart Steam if it doesn't try to download initially.

V
Val Salia · May 22, 2026

Wuh oh, looks like today's update broke the mod! The game flicks between 2d and 3d screened during loading, and either starts the game as if 2d forced screen mode is on, or starts in 3d for a second or two, then reverts to 2d; and in both cases, cannot be toggled. Tried uninstalling all mods, different window types, and restarting (which seems to make it start in 3d but lock into 2d on the first launch after restarting, instead of the always-in-2d startup)

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 20, 2026

Why are you running so low a resolution with those settings? It would make sense if you were using RR, Max lighting, RT and/or DLAA combo but without RT and using DLSS quality that seems very low, which could explain why you have such low usage. Are you saying you are unable to hit your fps cap with those settings or something? That doesn't sound like a bottleneck at all with that kind of usage on your CPU and GPU, they are both low. That just looks like you are underusing your system :)

Hey Luke, Would you ever consider adapting FORZA HORIZON 6 to your framework? The FH franchise is the only thing that is an "open world" driving sim (although it's more fun driving than sim per se), all the rest is track based or point to point. It's puzzling that Microsoft isn't making VR legacy on FH considering they do offer it for Flight Simulator (even on PS5! haha)... and it's not like adding VR to a driving game is an actual implementation challenge (lots of racing/driving games on PC have VR support). Sadly the only options right now are some pathetic vorpex style solutions, and if you could properly adapt it to VR I think you'd become a giant hero to the PC VR racing community :P PS: - it's possible that any modification would disable the MP aspect, but personally I can live with this limitation. - another potential hurdle is that FH seems to be using a proprietary engine, so things may get complicated. PS2: I want to thank you again for bringing Death Stranding 2 to VR, it's a fantastic experience.

Michael Woindrich · May 17, 2026

Hi everyone, I honestly need some help because I'm completely lost. I'm running a decent setup with an RTX 4080 and a Quest 3, but no matter what I do, I cannot get an acceptable image quality, and the game is constantly lagging and stuttering. I’ve read all the comments here and followed every single guide, but nothing works for me. I see some people saying they play in "Mono" mode to fix performance and sharpness, but frankly, what's the point of playing in VR if you disable the 3D stereoscopic effect? To me, that completely kills the immersion and defeat the purpose of using a headset. I’ve tried everything, including tweaking all the in-game settings (low graphics, disabling Ray Tracing and Max Lighting), changing the dominant eye, and even installing OptiScaler with FSR 4 as suggested by genz0r. It’s still a blurry. The only thing that gives me a noticeable FPS boost is reducing the FOV directly inside Virtual Desktop. Curiously, the horizontal and vertical FOV sliders inside the R.E.A.L. mod overlay don't seem to change anything for me at all. Is there anyone with a 4080 and a Meta headset who managed to get a smooth AND sharp experience in FULL 3D stereoscopic VR? If so, what are your exact settings? I really want to enjoy this mod but right now it feels impossible. Thank you!

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 18, 2026

This game is pretty tuff at the moment. Since their DLSS implementation is pretty bad, it leads to about as much shimmering as any other upscaling or more. Lower resolutions should look better as you decrease your fov because the quality of the remaining image is higher, more PPD. So that is one route to making things look better if you want to not use upscaling at all or DLAA. I would say go with Ultra lighting and RT on because RT has very little cost along with Ultra lighting. Then decide if you want to use upscaling or not. People use Mono because it looks better since it is only the image from one eye. If your brain picks up more on other depth cues it can still look like there is some amount of depth, although there isn't. I have played games on my monitor that looked more 3d than others because of other cues and effects. But yes, there is an obvious visual difference for most people probably when switching back and forth repeatedly. I personally can struggle to tell if something is not in stereo 3d at times until I switch back and forth and see the difference. Binocular overlap in a given headset probably is a factor in this as well. Nothing wrong with people using it or you not wanting to, personal preference. There just is no best answer for this game currently. You are going to run into issues using RR and DLAA because of performance or visual issues using upscaling. They really need to work on their lighting system more and DLSS implementation. Despite people saying it is well optimized, I am inclined to agree with Daniel Owens. Good optimization means there is meaningful impact at different settings levels. This game doesn't have that much. It is basically, looks pretty at max lighting, RT and RR with crazy high-performance cost or mostly the same below that with little performance gain as you go down. Unless you go all low/minimum perhaps. But only a few settings really seem to drive visual quality at all. I think it will definitely improve over time though. You can try forcing preset E for DLSS, it doesn't have as much flickering. I use that or K along with this graphics mod (link below) and the only problem I have left really, is the garbled shadows on people. They can look terrible depending on lighting. E or K gives you better performance and seem to have less flickering to me. E is not as sharp, but I use Reshade sharpening, so that doesn't bother me much. You will have some shimmering and trails with upscaling I think no matter what. FSR seems to have more instability with hair and a kind of film grain when you move your head. No really solid solution at the moment outside of crazy performance costs and limiting fov etc to get there. If they fix DLSS and those shadows, it will be far easier settings wise. Plus, their lighting at night 😉 https://www.nexusmods.com/crimsondesert/mods/651

Not perfect and you have to be careful about moving your IRL position, but it keeps you in FP while in combat, gliding, mounted etc. Has an optional file to go 3rd with bows and guns. Try the DOMINENT EYE setting !! Yesterday, I had a completely unexpected revelation. I didn’t even know there was a setting to choose the dominant eye. So I had been using the right eye, which seems to be the default. Then I tried switching it to the left eye and, honestly, magic. I’m not exaggerating: everything changed. For the first time, I really felt like I was inside the 3D world. With the previous setting, there was this almost invisible problem, the kind you can’t really identify unless you know it’s there, but I could definitely feel that something was off. After changing the eye setting, the difference was honestly radical. Now I genuinely feel like the 3D environment surrounds me and includes me. Before, it felt more like I was watching a VR scene from the outside, not truly being inside it. I’m not sure I’m explaining it perfectly, but seriously, it changes everything. I’m probably not the only one who never paid attention to this setting, and there may be others here in the same situation. So if you’ve never touched it, try switching the dominant eye setting and see if it changes anything for you. Honestly, it completely transformed the experience for me. It’s so much more immersive now that I almost want to replay older games just to experience them properly.

I wonder why this is? I early on found and changed this setting to left since it is natural for me to aim by closing the right eye(cyberpunk) So if I did not change it I was unable to shoot properly. I never noticed the difference you seem to describe here though.. Curious.

Thankyou! I have a request though. Can we get some racing game love for VR? Specifically Forza Horizon 5 would be awesome, or Forza Horizon 6 that just came out. I have a really nice racing wheel that I never use but could dust it off for Forza. I know there are sim racing games in VR already but those aren't my thing. I don't want hyper realism or racing on an enclosed track. Forza Horizon games are right up my alley though.

Anyone else notice that the last game update seems to have fixed screen judder issues when frames are unstable? I can run through the city at 50-60 fps and things seem to stay stable now. Don't even need to set a cap with Riva Tuner anymore.

R
RossH · May 12, 2026

Well, after finally receiving my Pimax microOLED optical engine, I went back to The Great Circle, to try to finish the game one more time. Brandon, to summarize the prior experience, I played the game without issue using my MeganeX 8K. At the point in the game when Indy started the Egyptian part of his adventure, I received my Pimax Super and started testing it. In this testing process, I could not get my MeganeX to work again after starting the Super 50 PPD testing. After determining the 50PPD optical engine required even more processing power than my PC could provide, I could never get my MeganeX to work again. Now, after swapping the Super optical engine, I cannot get either headset to work, using release v2605.8.2. The game consistently crashes several seconds before the first game splash screen with the REAL mod installed, but works perfectly without the mod. I have cleared my PC (local) configuration and save files, as well as reloaded the entire game again. Any suggestions for this baffling problem? By the way, did Luke ever resolve the one frame issue with Pimax? Can Pimax OpenXR be used with REAL mods yet, instead of the Oculus runtime work-around?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 12, 2026

No, Pimax has not resolved the frame delay issue with their driver. That is not a Luke thing, that is a Pimax thing and they will have to fix it on their end. Do you have Steam Input enabled for Indy? It has to be enabled now for some reason or the game will crash, same for the DOOM games. If that is not the issue, then maybe you need to ensure that the Pimax or software is killed off in task manager to get the Meganex working? I have to restart my PC when switching back to my Aero sometimes or the Varjo software won't register my headset. So maybe rebooting would help when switching. Not sure, but things can get finicky when using different software's these days. If the game is crashing on startup, it sounds like it is probably Steam Input though, hopefully 🤞 Yup, 50PPD is unrealistic unless you have a pretty small fov and you are not playing something like Indy 😉 Just saw that there is an update today, hopefully it didn't break things :)

I’m having a very strange camera issue and I’m trying to figure out if anyone else has experienced this. Here’s what happens: * When I launch the game, the initial screen appears very low, so I have to physically look downward with the headset. * If I use the Quest recenter button, menus become correctly positioned, BUT first-person mode ends up at the character’s feet/shins level. * If I do NOT recenter, first-person height becomes mostly correct and immersive, BUT all 2D menus and inspection screens appear extremely low. The biggest issue: When inspecting objects/letters/documents in-game, the camera switches back to the “low” offset mode, making it almost impossible to read or interact with them because the inspection view gets stuck far below my natural view direction. Any idea what could be causing that ? Does this happen to someone else ?? Is a pitty because first person is waay more inmersive.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 12, 2026

That is definitely not normal behavior. Maybe something with your play space is messed up? You might want to check that and make a new one. Perhaps the floor level is incorrect or something.... Are you using a Meta headset? They have a recent bug with play space issues. Not sure if that is a factor here or not.

B

I guess there was a DRM free leak of the game already. You could end up with an 8000 year hardware ban if you use it though 😂 It doesn't look like the Steam version will have any kind of third party anti-cheat, which is nice. I'd hold off and see how performance is and if the game is actually good before trying to get people asking for it :)

Hello again, I just wanted to revisit Spider-Man Remastered but the game crashes always shortly after the first game screen with the framework overlay. I tried the latest early access version, the free version and an old version v27_0_1. I tried all three settings for Steam Input, enabled and disabled DLSS in the starting settings window, always the same result. Am I missing something? Here is my log: https://pastebin.com/vph87BSq

Hmmmm, seems like the patches are applying fine and I don't see any errors right off. Maybe try matching the resolution in game settings to your monitor, it looks like it is trying to start at an odd resolution. I'm reinstalling now to see if it works fine for me. Of course, double check other game settings while you are there :) I think I remember you having issues with this one before, right? Quest 3 and VD?

Brandon(Post Maester) · May 12, 2026

If you wan't to make it a bit simpler. When you see an update, or if there is a specific version you want to stay on. Just copy the game folder to another location. Then you can let Steam update the game and drag the files from the copy over to the updated game folder. Essentially same thing but you are just making a copy of the game instead of having to download it again :)

w
william mumford · May 11, 2026

Hey Luke, unfortunately CD just had another update and the game appears to be broken again. Hopefully it won't take too much to get it going again. Honestly this one might be best to put on the back burner until they slow down with the updates. I know it has to be exhausting to keep up with it when they are happening weekly like now. Others may disagree, but I personally would be cool with you focusing on something else for a bit while the development settles down on this one. Maybe just let everyone know upfront after you fix it again that you will be pausing on it, so they have the chance to make a backup copy of the game in its working state for now if they want to. So many other stable games are out there waiting. Dying Light the Beast is just begging for your attention... 😁

Also I'm new here. How does Luke select his next game? Does he do polls? Or is just random?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 12, 2026

It is kind of a mix of what he is personally interested in and what people seem to ask for most. But sometimes it is a sequel to something he did or previous game in the series as well. Player base is also a factor. If nobody is playing a new game, then I wouldn't bother asking. Honestly, I don't think there is a hard and fast formula though 😁 Which makes it kind of fun. You never really know what is coming next most of the time. So, if you have a request, just throw it out there...... or here.

Incredible work as always Luke, much appreciated! The game is getting consistent QOL patches so I'm sure it'll only get better and better to experience in VR too. I'm already absolutely stunned with the level of immersion your framework provides, especially when switching to first-person mode. I'll dare to say CD is the Skyrim of our generation, a little janky and the story isn't great but the combat and exploration are top-notch. Thanks to experts like yourself the game will get even better and I hope the publishers appreciate the sales boost the framework provides. Only a few weeks ago I dreamt about experiencing this world in VR and you've delivered in spades. Looking forward to experiencing more and more of your work. While most big corporations are abandoning the "VR/metaverse" you're truly carrying the entire VR medium forward and keeping it relevant for headset owners both old and new, making VR something that everyone has to experience in their lifetime.

Ujin Kubata · May 11, 2026

can someone share settings for 5090?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 12, 2026

This game is pretty hard to recommend definitive settings for :) There are some major pros and cons no matter which way you go. I also went down a long rabbit hole the last few days of looking at all the xml files people have modified in the modding community for this game. I am actually questioning how many of those changes actually work like they say they do after that 😂 This game makes it very difficult because a sudden lighting change can drastically change how things look. I have a save where two NPC's look almost perfect when I load in, then the light changes just a bit and they suddenly are covered in garbled shadows. I also downloaded a mod that used an xml change to stop the game from forcing Max lighting when using Ray Reconstruction. It does, but fps and lighting essentially stay the same as you lower the lighting quality 😁So you can move to Ultra instead of Max, but you get the same results as Max 😂 Also, at night, when I turn on the lantern, it seems to greatly darken all the other light sources around the city. If I turn off the lantern, they all brighten up again. This game still needs some major work to its lighting 🫣among other things.

A
Alex M · May 11, 2026

What is the reason for recommending restricting FOV to 0.7 and 0.63, i get black edges when doing that, is it worth it?

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 11, 2026

Restricting the fov will definitely give you black edges. It reduces the fov that the game is rendering at, which means it is rendering a smaller area of your fov. It enhances image quality of that area, which means you can then lower resolution to achieve the same image quality with more performance. So instead of running at 3920x3920 at 100% fov, you could run half of that resolution at 50% fov and get the same PPD or image quality to improve performance if you are using things like RR, max lighting, RT and DLAA. 50% fov is not at all recommended of course :) just as an example. If you were to run 3920x3920 at 50% fov, that would essentially double the PPD you are running at, so no fps gains because you are now running at a crazy PPD with the lowered area the game is rendering. In practice, you could lower the fov to say .9 or .8 on both and gain a bit of image clarity or be able to lower resolution to account for the cost of those settings while keeping similar image quality.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 11, 2026

Yeah, really hoping they fix their DLSS implementation or improve upon it so we can use DL(S)SS with better results. I can stand in front of two characters in the camp on one of my saves and they start out looking quite good. Then I watch as the sun goes down and it gets a bit darker and they suddenly have all kinds of garbled artifacts on them. Fortunately, they are working at quite a furious pace on improving the game :) So chances are they will improve things graphically as well.

I have played CD quite a bit in flatscreen, but it won't load with the mod. I just get a black screen with a circle. I have a 5090. Any idea what it might be? I have a pimax CL. Updated Nvidia drivers, still the same.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 11, 2026

Are you using Oculus runtime with the Pimax CL? Make sure frame gen isn't enabled. It has been turned on for a number of people now after they install the framework and it will keep it from launching. Nvidia app can also turn it on if you allow it to "optimize" the game. Also be careful of other mods stopping the game from launching after an update.

C

Huge thanks, Luke, for this new version of the mod. With the first version you shared, you gave me the chance to experience Crimson Desert in VR, and it was already a truly “frustratingly amazing” experience. With this new version, it simply becomes amazing. There are still a few small issues, for example the map display when assigning tasks to camp residents, but overall the improvement is massive. By the way, has anyone found an alternative to the “no letterbox” mode, since it apparently no longer works? Those black bars are really frustrating, especially in VR. I also wanted to take this opportunity to say something I hadn’t said yet since everything that happened earlier this year, unlike many others. I’m genuinely happy to pay a subscription every month. My gaming life has not been the same for months now, ever since I started playing games with your VR mods. Even when I already have the mods I want, I know that my subscription helps you keep working hard and hopefully bring us VR mods for future games as quickly as possible. It’s simple: without Luke Ross, my experience of video games, and especially VR gaming, would simply not be the same. Thank you again for everything, for your work, and for your courage. And as for the haters, they can simply go somewhere else.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 10, 2026

They (fov sliders) only work with Meta headsets using Meta Link. The RT cost for this game is tied to the Lighting quality setting. Ultra lighting quality will have a pretty small RT cost for example, while Max lighting will have a much higher RT cost.

I just updated to v2605.8.2_early_access and the issue is still there. CD runs fine in 2D, no overlays, I am running Pimax Super UW with a RTX 5090 and a 9950X3D so in theory it should be possible to run , but every time after I have copied the files in the correct Bin64 folder and applied the Realconfig as usual and I start the game from steam, I just get a BLACK SCREEN and CD won't load, it just crashes ... Crimson Desert is not Responding. Here are the RealVR64, I tried running it in PimaxXR https://pastebin.com/pmkcxXnx and SteamVR https://pastebin.com/YiqJ3xN9 , i hope you can make sense of it, I would really love to play CD in VR !!! I have made a post similar to this one yesterday but since then it has dissapeared. Hopefully you or Brandon the postmaster can spare a moment this time to find the culprit and give me some suggestions on what to try to make this working ! Tanks SO much !

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 9, 2026

Could be frame gen. Make sure it is off. You would need to use Oculus runtime for Pimax though. No SteamVR or OpenXR. Pimax OpenXR has a frame delay issue. Oculus runtime should work well. Just download the Meta Link App on your system if you haven't. Then of course extra settings like foveated rendering in Pimax Play may cause issues. Not sure if the ultra wide fov has a negative impact but I don't think that would cause crashing.

B
Brandon(Post Maester) · May 8, 2026

If you are using DLSS, their implementation is not very good. Hopefully it improves. Lighting quality is a big visual driver in this game. For example, foliage and game objects seem to look worse the more you lower the lighting quality. What resolution are you using? You also need to make sure you have a fairly stable frame rate, if you are pushing things and your frame rate is dipping, it will cause upscaling to break. Are you using any upscaling? This is a tricky one because the game still has issues itself and those become more apparent if you aren't able to play at max settings with DLAA. You can still see them at that point, they are just less visible. If you watch people playing flat, you can make out a lot of the same issues. Like smearing/shimmering on foliage and lighting artifacts. Welcome to the age of forced RT and RTGI :) They don't seem to have put much time into the fallback SSR implementation at all. I'm sure the game will continue to improve though. They seem very serious about taking in player feedback and improving off of that. Which is great!
