S2E5.5: Winter Kills
Continuing the trend that Abi started by bringing us Totally Spies last time, we're taking a deep dive in to Alice's favourite childhood film, a movie that really meant a lot to her growing up. And even though it's kind of shit, (It's a 1970s 'comedy' with no discernable jokes, A fun premise that completely falls flat after a catestrophic mishandling, and to cap it all off, a trainwreck of a production process) we stuck with it because, having watched it, we now feel closer to our dear friend Alice.
Hold on a moment, I'm being handed a note,

Parallax view for kjb
Insane listening to this episode for the first time after you have, three years in the future, covered The Usual Suspects (1995)
Speaking of names the bottom of the description is outdated
Yeah, this is the 70s paranoid thriller with the worst sex scene 😔
I feel so much more para-social with y'all having shared Alice's favourite formative film.
I'm very sorry, I think I was one of the randos who suggested this. I did really enjoy listening to you talking about it but also I'm sick and should be stopped. And I didn't know about the slurs which I apologise for. The 70s was a decade.
hell yeah pasolini rules, one of my favourite directors
When you're too anemic to donate blood to the Trans Vamps so you donate to the Patreon instead.
*listening to this with all 3 dogs on the furniture* Devon, how could you?
YES I’m so pumped for Kung Fu Hustle!
Abi needs to take that Mr. Bean slander back RIGHT NOW
Ever thought about doing Predator (1987)?
Have none of the hosts seen Chinatown? Because I have no idea how you could watch John Huston be an incestuous robber baron and think of anything else. His character in this is a parody of his performance as Noah Cross in the same way that Richard Kiel played parodies of Jaws.
I know, I couldn't even remember what John Huston looked like and what else he was in and hadnt seen Chinatown for 15 years, but just hearing him sent a shiver down my spine of "Oh NO...."
Between this and his turn as the incestuous megalomaniac father in Chinatown, it appears John Huston had A Type. 😬
Both Manchurchian Candidate films are worth a look given the 60s one is more of a satire like the book and 2004 one is just a stone cold great film
”there’s winter comin down, like, snow and that” a fantastic Devon Sentence
Abby I test and transfuse people’s blood for a living, I could just WFH for a bit it’s be fiiiine (also I have a fur coat)
The reveal that it's supposed to be a comedy, my jaw dropped.
There is a qanon anonymous episode on this movie where they dig a little more into the background behind the movie. Apparently a lot of the actors kept working even though they weren't getting paid because they thought the movie was really important story to tell.
Also the qaa guys came to the conclusion that the events of the movie are a psyop by Jeff bridges dad to make him take over the business
Speaking from my own childhood faves, a bonus episode on Condorman would be marvellous.
The real killers are the people secretly watching us, that's right, it's you, the 1979 movie viewer.
Tasters choice. Whoever thinks my blood tastes the best can have me.
Abbie: Ventrue Alice: Tremere Devon: Gangrel
I am so fucking excited for King Fu Hustle next time
Great bonus ep, but where can I watch this online?
"WINTER KILLS!"
John Huston's late acting work is fascinating, as he will do *anything* he's asked to, and he fully understands what real evil actually is.
took me so long to realize qaa had covered this movie. I was trying to figure out why these plot points sounded so familiar
"If you want Abby to drink your blood..." *stands at attention*
Realising that my meaningful constant watch childhood film was Die Another Day as you can tell this has made me very normal
Mine was All the President’s Men and it definitely had no lasting impact on me </3
