S2E5: Clear and Present Danger
It's time to keep up the heat on Jack Ryan, and this time Mr Constitution himself is off to Colombia to racistly get himself involved in a bunch of drug smuggling events. Hard to express the lack of respect this movie has to the nation of Colombia, and indeed to the viewer.
Jack Ryan is made Acting Deputy Director of the CIA when his mentor James Earl Jones, here playing the character of America, falls ill. Jack immediately is a naïve dipshit and gets himself Embroiled. To discuss events past this point would be a disservice to letting us reveal them during the episode.

Fun fact! In the book, Cortez doesn’t kill Moira and just stops contacting her after the whole shoot-out. This being a Tom Clancy book, it ends with him being arrested and Moira getting revenge by having him sent back to Cuba to be tortured to death. Tom Clancy REALLY likes the death penalty.
This episode hits differently two days after Trump invaded Venezuela, I'll tell you that.
As an Australian, the idea that beloved satirist John Clarke (of Clarke and Dawe fame (the front fell off etc)) is the fascist Tom Clancy goes to when America needs to commit a necessary evil is just a horrifying thought, lol.
I'm just looking up my big list of countries where you can't trust the water, let's start with the "A"s; America, United States of
Abigail's American accent sounds like Spike trying to feign an American accent lol. Or as Anthony Stewart Head suggested to James Marsters when he asked how to do that: "Just go crazy on the Rs"
I felt Devon's rant about the length of this movie in my bones. Beautiful.
Your intro attacked me. I've never been so read in my life.
"...so are crimes against the constitution!" [studio audience laugh]
B - having recently replayed a lot of the CoD games, it's around the sensitivity of CoD 4
A - weird that they used Kazakhstan when the bad guys seemed like they were meant to be Serbs.
Having watched Air Force One recently, I did want to mention ahead of any future episode that when I saw it first in the early 2000s it was:
Tweed jacket, academic buildings...That's not Boston, that's Cambridge, Massachusetts, the infinitely more pretentious city across the river from Boston where the residents literally call themselves Cantabrigians in a shameless aping of an older Cambridge over in the perfectly normal country.
I think Abby got Alice's location wrong for her American home. Roz and Liam already gave her official asylum in Philadelphia
Just imagining Dev dressed like Adrian Paul in the Highlander tv show.
devon assuming the role of a rare redneck they/them
Sounded a lot more like their John Taliban
Operation Enunciation
Oh sweet summer Devon, 90s fashion is already back in a BIG WAY in the USA
I’ve gotten The-Disease-Where-You’re-Gonna-Die several times and it’s really no big deal at all. Well, at least not til you die.
Have they ever mentioned doing a series for the Tinker Tailor TV show? I would really like to hear them discuss that.
I’ve been on this in the comments for a while. Hard agree
Thrilled to hear that you'll all cover Mission Impossible - may have to watch along with you for those!
Bonus episode suggestion: Sneakers! Amazing cast, and hits the early part of the information age, post cold war/pre 9/11 espionage flick. Would be really interesting to compare to the other 90's movies you've done, especially Ronin! Tons of actor tie-ins too, you've got James Earl Jones, Robert Redford, David strathairn, and the guy with a moustache that's like every henchman in the 90's. Plus the most intense scene of Scrabble you're likely to see
Sneakers! Yes! Fantastic suggestion. Really hits the mark for this show.
1:02:30 Not to mention, "The illegal CIA Death Squad who might possibly snitch on the illegal CIA war I've been waging? Sure, kill the witnesses."
Abigail's American sounds kind of Irish (?)
What if a Valley Girl was in the IRA?
Since The Sum of all fears is Next in the Jack Ryan series im begging you to listen the DVD commentary for it. Tom Clancy himself holds the director hostage in a recording studio yelling at him over changes from the book, technical faults and plots holes. It's a master peace of passive aggressiveness and the best part of the film.
