FREE PALESTINE
Hey, Devon here. In our home, we talk a lot about how insane everything feels, and agonise constantly over what can be done to best help the Palestinians trapped in Gaza facing the full brunt of genocidal violence. My partner Rebecca has put together a list of four fundraisers you can contribute to- all of them are at work on the ground doing what they can.
-Palestinian Communist Youth Union, which is doing a food and water effort, and is part of the official communist party of Palestine

-Water is Life, a water distribution project in North Gaza affiliated with an Indigenous American organization and the Freedom Flotilla
https://www.waterislifegaza.org/
-Vegetable Distribution Fund, which secured and delivers fresh veg, affiliated with Freedom Flotilla also

-Thamra, which distributes herb and veg seedlings, repairs and maintains water infrastructure, and distributes food made with replanted veg patches

I got a homie named Thomas Aquinas.
The comet predicts the mother of the Antichris: the ante-Antichrist, if you will; making the comet the ante-ante-Antichrist.
41:00 Clearly you never predicted Bubba lmao
You joke but they legit show this one at seminary. Also preventing death of many, dying for the faith, is self martyrdom.
I still remember Yuri's monologue about "the human brain is a pandora's box, of electrical charges," that cutscene is going to stay with me until the end of time
The words "If you ever played Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2, THAT'S the guy who played FUCKING YURI" instantly took me out in the exact same fashion that Yuri takes people out. Just full on mental self destruct activation. Thank you Abigail for that deepest of cuts.
Never have guessed the Bit that KJB Highlights is gonna be highlighting, so quickly as the Arnie Sound Response.
I would like to point out arnold was difficult to insure for this movie as he was coming off 2 heart surgeries.
The Devil's greatest trick is defenestration 😈🪟
Also, credit to Abby. ACAB. All Cops Are Beelzebub 🤘🔥
I will beg you to watch The Exorcist. Cuz it's good? Sure. Cuz the sequels are positively mad? GOD yes.
The Exorcist 3 is one of the greatest horror movies of all time.
Speaking of Catholic CIA, Andie Macdowell plays a horny catholic art-cop who answers to a bishop in the 1991 film Hudson Hawk, which also stars Bruce Willis playing a character who can’t stop clarifying his gender and sexuality
was just thinking about that movie because abby said she wanted to do more religious and action movies
If you want to see an absolutely dogshit religion movie that would be hilarious to make fun of, check out The Omega Code. It’s evangelical Christian endtimes porn starring Michael York as the antichrist.
If we're doing shouts-out to Udo Kier, check out Brazilian anti-colonial horror movie "Bacurau" featuring him as the primary antagonist.
They keep referencing Crispin Potatosnacks and they even said what it's from and I still can't find it can somebody help
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/why-am-i-laughing-apologies-my-friend < it's from this
I really hope they do National Treasure eventually. If you stretch, it could fall into both religion season and heist season.
Like most of the podcast, I think I also caught a few minutes of this on TV once because I have a sudden memory of Gabriel Byrne kissing someone and then walking out of an exploding restaurant and I don't think that happens in Miller's Crossing.
I know that Arnie's accent has been satirised to hell and back, even by himself but... Taking the piss out of how someone sounds for so long? Supplementing all your jokes with the occasional "Noau!"? Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
thanks for the list, i used it today o7
Another millennium themed movie which would fit into religion season is The Omega Code featuring GWLTS Michael York.
Having just read Miriam Margoyles' book I am sorry to report she does not recall this film fondly and says that Arnie farted in her face after throwing her through coffee table
Throwing in The Boondocks Saints suggestion for religion season. I remember it being bad, but it is an action movie
Also for religion/heist season I’d like to suggest The Scarlet And The Black with Gregory Peck
Banger. My grandmother had 2 movies on VHS. One was The Lion in Winter and the other was The Scarlet and the Black.
Once I took a few wrong turns off Saint Peter’s Square and rather than shady rosary dealers I encountered some Very Annoyed Swiss Guards with submachine guns
Real talk: trauma box/drawer is a great way to hold onto something that is emotionally important but painful, so you don't keep accidentally finding it, hitting yourself with a dissociative flashbang, and then squirreling it away for your future self to find again.
Doing the Equilibrium thing where you march into a giant room, flick your wrists to drop your pistols into your hands, then instantly shoot yourself and horrify everyone in the arena
unrelated but honestly missing the drops element of the show 😔
20:00 oh cool I can understand that reference now
November, The Wailing! It's long and ambiguous and partially about Korean religious beliefs as well as Christianity!
I am once again asking you to enter ‘Fifth Element’ for consideration. It’s both a heist film and a religion film and you can further rip on, for legal reasons, ‘alleged’ nonce, Luc Besson
Do a whole Luc Besson freak week and do Valerian too.
19:37, November gaslighting Abby fucking sent me 🤣
As an American Double I think I want the British Original to take me out to dinner first
For Abbie's next satanic pick may I suggest Fallen with Denzel Washington. Or possibly the original Bedazzled. Both good movies but with a high enough SCUM score that they're interesting to talk about.
Also the Omen connection is less funny from this end.
The Craft for religion season! I was a neopagan for a while as a teen and even if it didn't stick I still have a soft spot for Wicca. Plus I was a teen in the 90s so I will continue insatiably demanding 90s teen films no matter whether they fit or not!
I remember a tweet from about 10 years ago that went something like, "If Donald Trump reminds you of '80s movie villain that's just because a lot of '80s movie villains were based on Donald Trump." This isn't technically an '80s movie but it is a Schwarzenegger movie so I think it still counts.
I have a theory that genres are fractal so while the genre of religious films is quite diverse and complex and contains within it all “woman gives birth to the Antichrist films” the sub genre of “woman gives birth to the Antichrist” is equally diverse and complex. I was going to suggest To The Devil a Daughter (1976), for a good Christopher Lee performance, but then I remembered Little Evil (2017) which is a great stepdad steps up comedy.
Hopefully we can avoid the emergence of Sunni Religion Season and Shia Religion Season.
🎶Bring me my launcher of burning gold, Bring me my grenades of desires, Bring me my GLACK, oh clouds unfold, Bring me my subway train of fire🎶
dont get me wrong I love religion season but can we get a movie soon that doesn't star white people and western religion? I mean this genuinely and enthusiastically because there's some great films out there
some movies I found are Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives, Persepolis, The Taqwacores, Devi, Barravento. I'd love to find a movie with a sensitive depiction of vodou but they're few and far between -_- I'm sure other commenters will have some recommendations as well!
Y'all should do the Dreamworks animated film Prince of Egypt for religion season
KJB should institute a policy that they will only address the actual religious text in the form of movie musical (Jesus Christ Superstar, anyone?)
I remember watching this once as a kid and having a decent enough time but getting a massive headache from the WAY TOO RAPID CUT EDITING, but honestly the first ten minutes of "HEY THIS WHIPS" is making me want to give it another shake
Austrian here: Glock is just pronounced Glock, soft G, hard k, short o; I think the Glaok thing is just Arnie trying to sound American
Does del Toro's Hellboy (or even Hellboy 2) count for Religion Season?
I too am asking you to explore paganism using Hellboy 2 as a vehicle
Seventh Seal Team Six
Rad! For more religion season, maybe Doubt? (lots of interesting Gender going on with the contrast between the priests and the nuns). Or maybe Dune?
I assume a Doubt episode will just be screaming "Acting!" Every few minutes, and then just incoherently screaming names. That's what happens when I watch it anyway
November do possession as your next classy pick!
Fuck marry kill but for everyone's American double. I'm fighting mine and see what happens from there
getting on my soapbox again to plug a heist season/religion season TWOFER: the train (1964) and elmer gantry (1960), both starring burt lancaster. the former: a nazi official is trying to steal the contents of the jeu de paume gallery ahead of the liberation of paris, and a resistance cell of railroad workers has to stop him. the latter: a traveling con artist/salesman pretends to be an evangelical preacher to get into the good graces of Legally Not Aimee Semple McPherson and then has to avoid being found out, rather freely adapted from the middle third of a sinclair lewis novel that is /extremely/ prescient and pointed about american fascism (i have, like, actually kind of a lot of opinions about the decisions that were made in adapting elmer gantry.)
Hudson Hawk when?!
God yes. Awful heist "comedy" with a star-studded cast. Edit: also it fits the religion theme because he robs the Vatican!
🎉New South Wales Mentioned🎉
Former Catholic here, and I'm with Abby on this. What Arnold did was not suicide, it was self-sacrifice. Saying otherwise is like saying Jesus committed suicide when he let the Romans crucify him.
Jesus: suicide by state
I know this is obvious, but as long as we’re in religious season, watch ‘the Matrix’. I know it’s basic, but I rewatched it and the trans-ness of it all hit me like a brick
When I came out as non binary I was talking to a friend and said "if gender is a neutral descriptor then nobody should care how other people do it but if gender is a prison then we have to free ourselves and liberate others... OH! that's what the matrix is about!"
I watched this at 14. I liked it then. Youre right with that comment. Lol
In my unlearned reading of Constantine: 1) John cutting his wrists [again] was a sin, which is why Satan could collect his soul 2) John received a favor from Satan for stopping Satan’s son 3) John used the favor to free Isabel’s soul from Hell 4) This action, “giving up your own life so she could go to heaven,” counted as a personal sacrifice and redeemed John in the eyes of God So, if Arnie sacrificed his own life to prevent the Antichrist from being born, he’s probably fine.
nova confused austria and australia, fails to draw a clock
Field of Dreams is ABsolutely a movie about faith if not religion and I'd like to hear them talk about it. Didn't watch it until my 30s, I thought it was a movie about a guy who builds a baseball field for ghosts and then meets his dad, but it tries to be radically political from a liberal perspective. There's a book-banning B-plot and the protagonist's wife calls one of the Christian conservative women a Nazi and rallies the whole town into being against book banning by giving a thoroughly liberal speech about the founding fathers and all that. Idk. And you know what? I'd like a Bull Durham episode, for them to talk about intimacy and aging and respect for sexually voracious women.
Speaking of Arnie films, I find Last Action Hero really interesting as a film that directly addresses the intersection of masculinity, misogyny, and action films.
Okay if next week is the usual suspects then when can we expect Rosemary’s baby for religion season?
Would John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness count for religion season?
Would love to see November's thoughts on taqwacore. A movie that made me as a 17 year old muslim wannabe punk go "its a bit juvenile huh" https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1519402/
If nova wants a experimental religion movie might I recommend the Buddhist western “el topo”
So I think he would go to heaven or even become a saint because at the time his body was not his own it was Satan's therefore by wrestling Satan into a massive sword killing Satan and preventing the end of the world I think he would have got to heaven and it would have cancelled out the suicide because he wasn't the person who got the devil to possess him so he felt onto the sword but he pushed Satan onto the sword of that makes sense
Of all the disturbing things depicted in this movie somehow blending leftover Chinese food is the worst.
Awww gawd, next episode is going to have a lot of Kevin Spacey in it. And it's a shame, because I love that movie.
Also Bryan Singer, which.... Eeeegh
Remembering A Matter of Life and Death where there are court cases in heaven to sort these things out. However, instead of theological or ethical issues the movie boils down to the litigation of if a Brit is worthy of hooking up with an American.
Am I misremembering or is this the first Arnie movie on the podcast
Shirt ideas id buy- I LOVE DA MOVIES A sample of your crispen potato snacks? No thank you, ive already imagined the flavor Im going to kill that cunt I am woman, hit me raw Id rather be developing a parasocial relationship with my favorite single, horny, podcast hosts who know me personally and love me very very much
Saying Australian instead of Austrian and therefore taking "a L"
Didnt expect to be reminded of the mlp cum jar in this episode
Feeling obscurely offended on behalf of Dominicans because all the ones I know are very kind, holy guys, and then remember that for some reason all Dominicans online are indeed ontologically incapable of being normal for even a second
istg, I thought this was about people from the Dominican Republic 🫣
Playing the Dawn of War: Definitive Edition which just dropped lately, all I can hear is the imperial guard priest yelling "THE END OF DAYS IS UPON THEM!" maybe the podcast is good too, idk haven't listened yet
Where are the drops
I remember preteen me really liking the soundtrack to this movie. I will not be looking it up to see how wrong I was.
Hearing Udo Kier brought up I had to stop and go find this clip from Johnny Mnemonic that's living rent free. https://youtu.be/QtUjbxnS7zg?si=ZXFmfjkLDUNCkfkL
I always figured that devout Christians would want the End of Days (tm) because that means the souls are freed from hell and the war breaks out and god and heaven triumphs and it's the end of all suffering. At least that is how I remember it? Why are they always trying to murk the antichrist? Isn't that against The Plan?
I like that you’re sorta reinventing Good Omens from first principles
