Update - 04/04/2022
Hello guys! How was everyone's weekend? Before we start, I want to welcome Rémy to the Order! Thanks so much for joining us!
So this last week was spent working on Empire Undying. As you guys saw, the first content for it is already here on Patreon, I hope you like it! It has art by Carlos Castilho and Ecemacaralp (a new artist from Turkey that really gets the old Sword & Sorcery sketchy vibe I want), and the layout was designed by our very own Phlvx, so it looks really good! Most likely the overall aesthetics you see now is what will be present when the actual book is out, although these are done in A5 format and I'll probably want to go with something a bit larger, like we are doing with Across a Thousand Dead Worlds. Although a bit dry, this first release should begin to familiarize you with the game's lore and setting, which this time are at the front and center of things. Yes, all my games have a strong thematic core that really dictate their mechanics and what you do in them, but none really have the level of detail I'm aiming for with EU; don't worry, there will still be room for random generation and exploration! The core game experience (initially, at least) will be centered around the island-city of Theni, the Acavian Empire's capital and the seat of power of its religious cults and Emperor Erbus the Immortal. Since Theni is a veritable metropolis with hundreds of thousands of inhabitants that has seen better days, there are whole sections of the city that have been uninhabited for centuries. These are areas that you can explore and exploit, and are generated randomly. There is of course a whole living, breathing city which is very clearly defined, and those areas will be mapped from the get go (including all the mayor districts, like the Stockades and the Temple districts), so you get a mix of fixed, "predictable" content and geography, and randomly generated urban and wilderness areas. Yes, wilderness as well; while a great part of the island of Theni is covered in both Acavian and Archeos architecture, whole sections of it that once were used as gardens, hunting areas, and even menageries are now completely abandoned and rewilded, which means you can go out there and see what you find (usually lots of dangerous beasts).
So what comes next for Patreon? First it will be the system neutral dungeon set in Theni, and after that I'm considering uploading something quite different but that I think you guys could enjoy and use: my "how I play D&D" document. It's essentially a collection of house rules and rules taken from tons of systems to make the game closer to what I like to play (or at least GM). This covers things like healing rules, magic, and character creation, with stuff taken from ALL (yes, that means 5e too) editions of D&D and many, many of its retroclones. I'm sure you can find something there that you can incorporate into your own games. I would need to clean it all up because since right now it's all a bunch of personal messy notes, it's not really that useful. So what do you say, you like the idea?
After these two things are done, I'll start uploading actual EU rules, starting with character creation. I'll continue uploading bits and pieces of EU's ruleset during the next few months, so eventually you will have the full game, ready to be played!
So I think that's it for now, hope everyone has a great week!
