Download my POISON YEARS zine now

There's no new PDF issue for a couple of months (though advance readers will get a new 6-page short story here on August 17th). So I offer up a digital zine I've made, an annotated compilation of nearly 70 pages of drawings and notes from my creatively productive Covid years. It's linked under the cover art.

I've no idea what you'll make of this but there's plenty to see in there. (Also, great logo John you are saying; why yes, I traced it myself.)

All this being in one sketchbook is incredibly cool. The two biggest revelations for me: the character beat about the respective heights of Lottie and Claire (!), and the glimpse at the brief attempt at a Giant Days sequel, which looks like it would have shifted focus to the blokes for a change.

Fascinating insight to your work and I'm grateful to be able to see it. I'm interested to know what you mean by "Pandemic Powers" and how you later say they were waning. Do you mean to say that they amount of practice and drawing you were doing got you into a flow state, but they were also burning you out? I find the flow state part sort of relatable although I've never thought of it that way. There are sketchbooks that I have that I look back on and am still proud of them and the ideas inside.

I don't know. It's all cyclical. I go up, then slowly I come down. The question becomes what makes you go up. I don't think it's ever been the same thing twice for me. The down is easier to understand.

Love the cover. Very Dave McKean Sandman.

These are all great! I particularly liked tracing the evolution for The Great British Bumpoff, which I remember you discussing on the Off Panel podcast briefly when you said that Initially Lottie was going to star in until you came to the conclusion that her personality is probably too abrasive for a baking show.

Fascinated by how much WOBBLY HEAD evolved over time. Hope we get to see Swedish pop star Silje Svensson someday.

Agree that Rev Penrose and Lottie is a crime-fighting duo for the ages

It's a budget compilation I've never seen "in the wild", I do I have the two albums it draws from, both big favourites.
