Update/Poll Results: 03/13/26
Hello everyone!
The poll still technically runs for a couple more days yet, but I have a feeling the trend will remain. It's basically what I have been doing, working on updates while at the same time putting the new State Controller together. So that is the plan for the next bit.
I am back from my appointments, so I have my laptop again. I should have had it while I was away, but the plugs where I was staying wouldn't run my charger, so I only had until the battery ran out.
From the health perspective, still have some things I need re-checked. Having some troubles getting any real answers here, but I know I have to only burn the candle at one end instead of both for the next bit anyway. Long story short, I'm having heart skips where I wasn't before. Hoping it's nothing major, since I did have a full heart workup before heading over here and everything was good. Just need to make sure it still is and adjust things a little until I know more.
Work does continue, however, and I am still working on some mostly "core" code changes that should really improve performance of basically everything I've done so far. I've been studying lua manuals and other games to pick up on some new techniques and such, that I am now applying to my own code. Takes a little time to do, and nothing to show but walls of text while I do it, so that is another reason for the quieter nature of things right now.
The updates revolve around execution speed and memory optimization. I have had more rare reports of GC messages when running some of my stuff, so this should address those as well. It's just something programmers do. They always look for new, faster ways to do what they do. In other words, less is often more and the idea is to get the features while using as few resources as possible.
GC or "Garbage Collection/Collector" is when unused things like tables, closures, variables, etc. are removed from memory. If there are a lot of things to remove during a GC pass, that's when you see messages like "memory went from X to Y in one pass" or similar. That happens when a bunch of these things were made temporarily, like in a loop, and it all gets cleaned at the next pass. That can cause stutters and such, so it is an important issue to address.
Anyway, working on that right now, while including some updates that were mentioned here and there as well. Once I have my core scripts all updated and testing, you should be seeing updates rolling out once again.
Just wanted to keep you guys updated with what's going on in the lab. And of course, we answer support questions on the Discord on a daily basis. That part is an "always on" kind of thing. I answer those as long as I'm not busy doing something else, and/or have my phone. The support team is mostly the same way.
I'll keep you posted as things progress, later!
