SEGMENT HUNTER #2 [Attempting to TOP four more obscure leaderboards]

Evening $4 Patreons!

Last summer I went on a quest to be crowned king of four obscure, seldom trodden Strava segment leaderboards, and I'd say it was a roaring success. So, we're doing it again, but this time I'm heading south-east into the lovely countryside around Swinfen and Whittington, tackling four more curious segments. They include a winding, log-strewn forest trail, a path which felt more like a construction site, a dash along the edge of a prison and a brutal 200m uphill sprint.

The paths were less overgrown than last time. Will this allow me to clinch any of these course records? or will my slightly heavy legs prove too painful?

Excellent vid! Loving the running/strava stuff

Do you feel you could push even more without the handicam, maybe a bodycam would shave off a sec here or there? Just a thought. Had sore legs just reaching for the remote after looking at this vid 😁

Yeah I did think that. The GoPro is a bit of a bugger to hold!

Would you be open to sharing your Strava profile? I'm sure a bunch of us would love to follow your activities on there If privacy is a concern, you can add a privacy bubble around your house 😀

G
GeoWizard · May 16, 2025

It is for privacy reasons - people would be able to work out where I live based on where all my activities start from, even with the bubble. But also I'd be spoiling my adventures weeks in advance!

I saw Russell Howard last night and he mentioned cottaging. I can’t stop thinking about that that time that man popped his head into the public toilets to ask Tom if he fancied a bum. My all time favourite GW moment. Should be on a t-shirt.

haha. All credit goes to the guy from balls of Steel!

Is the London no-road mission solo or with a pal? 👀

G
GeoWizard · May 16, 2025

It's mostly solo but with some sections I'm joined by good old Uncle Ed!

NOTHING like seeing that little segment crown. Princely efforts

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

It's great isn't it. Hopefully I can hold on to them!

When I walked London to Penzance I lost count of the amount of public footpaths blocked off by farmers. In the end I just stuck to the roads unless I was 100% sure the path was passable.

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Wankers. We should rip them down!

Julian Brantjes · April 29, 2025

Lovely stuff Tom, get in! Can I ask, when is the new album coming? It feels like you've been teasing it for years, and I'm dying to have a listen 😂

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Keep your eyes peeled on Patreon and on the YT channel over the next couple of weeks.

S
Sam Davies · April 29, 2025

Really enjoyed these videos, so much so that you have me tempted to take up running! Definitely keep them up (if you want).

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Cheers Sam. Give it a go man! For me it's not about the act of running, it's about winning battles.

Marte Kjelsberg · April 29, 2025

Double get in, 4👑 for you, and a London no roads mission for us!

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Win win! London was gnarly as hell. You're gonna love it.

Hey Tom, great vid as usual, quick question, Im just getting into hiking and trail running and was wondering which watch do you use to keep track of the trails, if you can recommend one, thanks. Btw London No Roads, that seems like an insane thing to evn try, can't wait for july now!

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

I've been using the Coros Pace 3 (recommended by many ultra runners including Ben Cook) - I can upload the route onto there pretty easily with markers/waypoints which told me when the segments started and ended. The battery on these watches is really good.

Petition to revisit the hill bomb when you're feeling 10/10 and just totally blast it with all you've got

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

I'm gonna do this.

As a fellow Strava addict I love these types of videos! Tom, have you heard of Squadrats? It's a site that connects to Strava and gives you points based on how much of your local area you've explored. It's definitely been scratching my exploration itch during training runs!

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

That sounds great Matt! I can see myself getting really into that. Even if it's just a hobby. But might make a video too!

S
Stuart Duncan · April 29, 2025

Another epic one. Surpasses the first segment hunter! Would love to see some more in perhaps more uncharted territory, perhaps more bizarre segments involving some small climbs/scrambled. Although more of the same would be brilliant.

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

yeah good shout Stuart. Maybe I'll head out to some really odd places for my next one.

Daniel Hawes · April 28, 2025

Content king at the moment mate , love every video , keep it up

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

That's great to know Dan. I intend to keep the adventures coming thick and fast!

j
joeoat · April 28, 2025

London no roads?? That's going to be epic!

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

That I can garantee!

P
Petronella Ford · April 28, 2025

I do enjoy watching you run. In fact, if there were awards for watching other people exercise I'd probably win one! I just love how your brain can turn anything into a challenge :)

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Thank you Petronella, that's reassuring. I was worried it was an unpleasant experience on the eyes and ears

L
LordLard · April 28, 2025

Cheers Tom, love the local ones. Especially liked a look at the firing range, a colleague was telling me about it a couple of weeks agom but not been down there yet. Reckon we need to bring you back to old aldridge for some sprints up the Beacon, or through Cuckoo's Nook or something ;-)

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

Yeah lovely spot. Haha sprints up the Beacon would've killed me based on this performance!

Sven Van De Voorde · April 28, 2025

Rodney! Rodney Throbber!!

G
GeoWizard · April 30, 2025

I'm gonna screenshot this and send it to my mate who invented the name Rodney Throbber. I believe he was a cock shaped bottle opener.

J
Jay · April 28, 2025

I love your vids, inspired me todo my own skits missions

G

That's what I like to hear Jay. Enjoy!
