A bit of an update
Not quite the update video I was planning on making.

Whilst I share very much the sentiment from the rest of the commenters, and sincerely wish you all the best with your medical issues, in a hope to at least temporarily distract from that kind of thing;I've got some very similar Ikea shelves like those, and I've never had an issue with them falling down, despite also not fixing them to the wall. I've found that so long as the bottom shelf has something reasonably heavy, you're golden - The bigger issue for me, which I noticed in the video, was the kind of 'side-to-side wobble' with them. I just grabbed a couple clamps to fix them together then took a metal drill and went right through the touching outer side poles and stuck them together with a couple M6 bolts (just one on the front and back) and it's been far more stable since then. Only takes a couple minutes and just makes the whole thing seem far more secure
That sounds like a sensible idea. I was initially thinking about running a thin strip of duct tape up the back of the poles…I thought if it’s long enough it’d be enough to keep the fronts perfectly level. I haven’t noticed any side to side wobble though (from memory).
We love you Mat
Wish you all the best Mat. I've been there. All you can do is keep on going and hope for the best and take as much time out as you need🙏👍
Concerning mic issues: have you checked out dxRevive? I haven't been paying any attention to your struggles and attempts with audio, so please don't jump down my throat if you have, but I think you'd appreciate the ability to manually adjust the enhancement parameters and to be able to fine-tune the audio better than with Adobe. https://www.accentize.com/dxrevive/
Surely there's some levity to be made of this being karma for being known for moaning about life so much. Hopefully it finds it way to you (the humor, I mean). I’ve been pretty restless trying to come up with a response since hearing your news. It’s difficult to put into words the sense of disbelief and unfairness, only that it's a kind that's too familiar. One would hope that, of all people, you would be the one doctors would approach with absolute transparency and honesty. Clearly they aren't as appreciative of vintage audio paraphernalia as they ought to be. In any case, I share with everyone else the faith not in your strength and resilience. and that, in the end, everything will turn out okay. I’ve been a follower of your work for longer than I can even remember. Your videos have always been a huge source of comfort and knowledge for me. Your ability to present and tell stories in such an engaging, approachable way, even when the item isn't, is a real gift. As an aside, I can’t help but feel self-conscious about the exchanges we've had. I haven’t always been the most coherent or stable person, and I hope I didn’t come across as unpleasant or hostile. If I ever did, I apologize with my deepest sincerity. Please know that everything I’ve said or done has always come from a real place of admiration and respect for you and your work. I’m sending all my love, thoughts, and prayers to you and the missus during this time. I hope you both feel the warmth and support of the countless people who care and are rooting at every step of the way. You’ve given so much, and now, more than ever, it’s our turn to be here for both of you, even if just in spirit. Please take care of yourselves, and know that you are all deeply appreciated and in the hearts of so many.
Don't mind admitting that video left me with a tear in my eye, really, really hopes there's a positive outcome to all this, with minimal discomfort to you Matt. Like so many others, been really worried about your health lately. Even if you don't make a single video again, your back catalogue of videos is worth every penny and more of the patreon fee and I've loved watching them each week for decades now.
We love you Mat, you're a huge part of our lives, you've inspired so many of us, and taught us all so much. Thinking of you, keep on pushing on. I know you said what's the point in finishing up the new office, well, we're all gonna go eventually, we just gotta make the most of it. I know when I was dealing with cancer, I'd often go to thrift stores to get my mind off it all, watching your videos really helped ground me in a time of the unknown and uncertainty. Maybe I was going to die, maybe I will die soon, as the doc told me, you could get killed by a bus tomorrow and none of this would matter anyways. He was pretty blunt, but he's right. Make the most of the time you have, we're here for you.
Mat, sending positive energy your way that it's just a bad scan and it's really nothing, and you're just going to get better soon. fingers crossed. stay strong either way, though. we're right behind you the whole way. worry about you.
This post has really touched on me in the past few days since seeing it. You were one of the first Youtubers I followed all those years ago and I looked forward to seeing your videos on such a variety of topics every Saturday lunchtime. My thoughts go out to you, your pragmatic approach and practical plans. As others have said, trust the doctors and trust in yourself. There are millions out here on the t'internet sending our best wishes and thoughts to you.
My family and I are praying for you, Matt. You've become a little part of our home over the years, and we appreciate you.
I’m not normally an emotional person , apart from close family members, but this news and video has definitely had an emotional effect on me . Full praise to your ‘keep yer chin up and get on with it attitude’ and I really do hope and pray this is all sorted out for you as I have grown to class you as a very good friend through watching your channel for some years now . You are everything I wanted to be ( but health and finance stopped me getting there) and I find your videos and style so comfortable and much more entertaining than anything on TV . I hope you can complete your new studio as , again, this is something I have always dreamed of and would love to see you enjoying its Merritt for some years to come . Sincerely good luck with everything Matt .
I'm not sure if this will help you at all, but I remember what I was looking up when I was diagnosed with a lymphoma and how scared I was in the beginning. I am good now and have been for two years, so I thought I give you some bit of advice of what I have learned during my treatment: Don't give anything to rates of survival and such. There are so many factors in them, that you really cannot tell anything from them. If you don't understand, ask the doctors again. They are mostly used to people who don't want to know too many details and you have to convince them a bit. They will tell you what everything means if you ask. If it is blood cancer, your other organs will be affected. I had stuff in my lungs, in my liver, in my belly. This might not necessarily mean anything and will just go away, when the 'main thing' is treated. And lastly; medicine got fucking good in the past few decades. It's amazing what can be done today. So keep your head up, keep positive, and get well soon!
That’s rough news, Matt. Just let the docs and nurses take care of you. It’s amazing what they can do for cancer these days.
I’m so sorry to hear this Mat. I’m sure everything will be okay in the end. Sending my regards and thoughts to you and your wife. Just keep going strong, and I’m sure you’ll be better in no time.❤️
My cancer survivor Mom's attitude is "If you keep moving, you keep moving." Here's to more moving and doing! :-)
Sending you our thoughts and best to you during this rough time. Fingers crossed for you Matt.
It's taken me a couple of days to get my head wrapped around this as I've lost a couple of family members to cancer, one of whom had liver cancer. That being said, doctors tend to be hypervigilant regarding potential cancers. It's quite likely that your results end up all clear and the doctors have just been extremely cautious. btw just adding to the pile of Patrons who want you to get better before you start making more content. Your health is the most important thing and we'll still be here when you get back to it.
It has taken a couple of days for me to put a message on here. Gutted. I hope the diagnosis is good but I am worried. My dad is at the hospital today for a colonoscopy. He has a stoma after having bowel cancer eleven years ago. Eleven amazing years of him being with us still. My brother is into his fourth year fighting cancer. This one's more relevant. He had cancer at the join between his oesophagus and stomach, and the first report was that there was "infiltration" 12 cm into the stomach. After tests with one hospital, the process of waiting for a consensus decision on the next steps is very worrying, they said that they couldn't do anything for him other than offer palliative care. So I asked a friend in the NHS if she could find a surgeon that would take on a challenging case and she did. He took my brother on and although his operation was harrowing (slight accident & 21 units of blood) the surgeon was successful. He said to my brother try to put this behind you and get on with the rest of your life. But after a couple of months my brother wasn't gaining weight. He was then diagnosed with blood cancer. A type that I can't remember but it's treatable although can't be cured. That was over two years ago. He has had immunotherapy throughout (since the blood cancer diagnosis) and has had radiotherapy to his pancreas where there's a "mass". He has lost so much weight. Now we are hoping against hope that he is among the 10% of suitable applicants for a "TARGET" trial. Please be well, get well, keep going and enjoying life.
I'm really happy to say my dad is ok, six polyps removed. Anyway, there is a primary and secondary cancer with my brother. The blood cancer is primary and pancreas secondary. This can be the case quite often with the liver because it's a filtering organ. My nan who is 95 in a fortnight had the majority of her liver removed in 1989 due to cancer. The surgeon made a tool for the operation and wrote an article for the Lancet titled "Joyce".
I hope everything works out Mat, focus on your health and getting better. We will still be here when it’s all said and done. Wish you all the best!
Regarding the non-distressing parts of your video: 1) A bare, new office is exhilarating, isn't it? No clutter, no distractions. You can focus 100% on the work and if you can't remember where you put your headphones...well, just keep turning your head until you see them. My office is currently empty and it's glorious. This is one of those periodic times when I move literally everything out so I can give the entire space a good scrubbing, clear out all of clutter, move in new furniture and storage, etc. I do this once every three or four years. The usual trigger for the project is when I do a little math and decide that the value of the time and effort required is less than the value of all the nice stuff I can no longer find. 2) Do the makers of that little robotic switch flipper make one in the form of a four-fingered cartoon hand in a white glove that pops out of the wall like the bird in a cuckoo clock, flips the switch, then slams the little door behind it on its way back into the wall? If not, I'd like to talk to you later in private about teaming up on a business venture.
Yes its such a nice clutter free room at the moment, if I had the space I’d be tempted to get an identical one built next to it and then if it ever got too messy, I could move next door and start again.
Holy cats! The "Flippin' Heck" mug that curates my toothbrush and toothpaste on the bathroom shelf now has some extra meaning. I hope you are the Missus get every result you're hoping for during this messy and unwanted adventure. And it goes without saying, but it's helpful to hear it stated explicitly: your job during this time is to do only and exactly what works for you, vis a vis this channel. If maintaining a production schedule helps you maintain your overall elan, do that. If you have the energy to make videos, but decide to put that energy elsewhere, do that instead. Those who appreciate you and what you do will support your choices. The rest don't matter, right?
Mat, I didn't expect to react this way, but your health update was heartbreaking to me. This YouTube business is a funny thing. We've barely exchanged words and yet I think of you as my friend, someone I've grown from my thirties into my mid-forties with, and someone who has enriched my life for the better, and with plenty of evidence of being an all-around kindhearted and likable fellow. I certainly don't want to lose that. And I appreciate that you're trying to be logical and reasonable about this, but it's also obvious you're scared, which is completely natural. Just know that you are cared for and I wish only good things for you and the missus. I'm hoping you'll come through this all sunshine and rainbows. I just don't want this misery of anticipation for you in the interim. As a wise man named Tom once said, the waiting is the hardest part.
I hope your health improves, and I like the new studio, I look forward to years of videos from it
Sending my thoughts, Mat. My fiancée and I hope and pray for good news here. The office is coming along great!
Mat, like many people here I’ve been (re)watching your videos for many years now. In fact, you’re the only YouTuber that I’m subscribed to. Like others here, I think you’re amazing and really care about you, and am hoping that there’s another explanation for your test results. I also want to say how open and — yes — brave you are to speak about this here. You and the missus must be under incredible stress, and let’s hope that your next appointment will give you a clearer picture. Sending all my best wishes.
I'm routing for you Mat, we all are of course! I've been watching you for many many years. Your regular videos helped me through lockdown and other difficult times. You matter to a lot of people, in a world of obnoxious and cruel people, your videos although just tech and music related have put an entertaining and positive, kind and sane vibe into the world. I'm hoping that the fact they have picked this up early thanks to your medical trial night make a big difference to beating this. The shadow on your liver is just a shadow at the moment, but hopefully if it something it can be removed. A friend of mine just had part of her lung removed due to a shadow as a precaution, she's hoping now that no more treatment is needed. Maybe the can remove part of your liver through keyhole like she had. She was out of hospital in 3 days. Blood based cancers actually have a higher survival rate at around 70 percent. But as you say you don't have a diagnosis yet, so try to take it one step at a time. Easy for strangers on the internet to say I know. Good luck and all my best wishes to you and your wife from South Wales!
On a positive note, the office is coming along nicely. The landscapers did a great job. The remote light which was a great idea as well. As for everything else, I won't dwell. I sincerely hope for the best outcome. You've become one of my favorite YouTubers.
Saddened to hear your news - but as previously pointed out - there is no diagnosis yet. Keep strong and hopefully you can distract yourself by doing the things that you obviously love with old tech. Looking forward to better news soon.
I mentioned in an earlier message that my husband had died last year. As some of the details are relevant to your potential situation, I hope you do not mind if I share them here, because you may find them useful in navigating what may be happening. Needless to say, I hope you have a far better outcome. My husband had clear cell renal carcinoma that had spread to his liver and lungs. There was a 10cm tumour on his left kidney and it was wrapped around his vena cava, so a nephrectomy (kidney removal) was not possible, and the cancer had already spread in any case. This was discovered initially through a pair of elective PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood tests where his liver function was identified as abnormal across the 2 tests. Ultrasounds and MRIs followed to identify where the cancer was, followed by a biopsy to determine its type. He displayed some of the symptoms you have described (night sweats, loss of taste). He also lost a lot of weight as he stopped eating. We discovered how hard it is to get a steer on probable outcomes, from diagnosis through to his last days in the hospice. I suspect this is done for the best of reasons, to encourage patients to go along with treatment. Mixed signals abounded. But the telling point was that the hospice staff (who were supporting him from diagnosis) were willing to fill in the SR1 form, which gives Personal Independence Payment at an enhanced rate where it would not be unusual for death to follow within 12 months. A couple of tips: if you're going between NHS sites, try to keep your own copy of your notes with you so they don't go missing. Also, if not already, try to register on the NHS app so you can see all the correspondence and test results. The precise system seems to be trust-specific. Needless to say, I wish you the very best but sometimes the worst can happen. We made wills in 2023 (despite being married and before any diagnoses or inkling of a problem) so the admin when the worst happened was no trouble. Be sure to check nominees on pension schemes too. In light of my experience, if there's ANYTHING you'd like to ask me, please feel free. And once again, fingers crossed for you.
Well there is one thing, it’s a bit personal, so I hope you understand where my curiosity comes from. What were the last few months like for him. It’s something no one really talks about. I.e. Was he up and about and relatively normal until a couple of weeks from the end, or was he bed ridden for six months?
Saddened to hear your health update. Sending very best wishes for a quick diagnosis and easy going treatment. I look forward to seeing you healthy and happy in your new studio in future videos. P.S. I have had endoscopies (both ends). Some sedation should be offered (ask anyway) and they aren't that bad.
Good grief, that's a lot to deal with - all the best Mat. Seeing this a bit late but with the bonus of seeing how much love there already is in the comments. Hopefully there's more positive news to come.
Whatever happens, Mat, the very best of luck with your health issues. Lots of us are supporting you and sending good wishes.
So sorry to hear this news, I really hope everything turns out well for you. I wish you all the best Mat.
Looks like you having a good time in the new space And wow just seeing it before when empty it looked somewhat small But when you began to set things in it just opened up 👍🏻 These shelves look pretty nice and stable, Do you have the name, ikea having some Swedish 🇸🇪 named everything i think 😁 The lights outside and your yard there looks very pretty 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The tall shelves are called VITTSJÖ
Regarding Mitsubishi A/C units, we have two in our house, and while the one in the windowless home theater does a very good job of keeping a constant temp (in both heating & cooling modes - I hadn't figured out the "auto" mode either) I find the one in our living room, which now functions as the main heating unit in winter, experiences more variability in the swings. Though I keep it set between 16C and 18C, on cold sunny days interior temps can hit 25. Even heating at 16 overnight night gives between 18 and 23C results. One thing I have also noticed is that you need to turn off the living room unit *twice* to get it fully shut down, I don't know if it defaults to a standby mode for quicker resumed operation, but it seems somewhat active (fans blow almost silently) after just one off-press. Take care Mat!
Thanks for the info, it’s good to know that mine isn’t faulty, well any more or less faulty than any others.
Very sorry to hear this news, you and the Mrs are in our thoughts and sending you positive vibes for the best outcome.
❤️🥰
BTW, I know you don’t do (boring!) Bluetooth speaker reviews, but have you ever tried any products from Harman Kardon? I just bought an Aura 2 on Marketplace. Looking forward to trying it out! 🔊
I can’t remember how good the sound quality was, but 8 years ago I reviewed the first Aura https://youtu.be/PnIJSbVDom4
I know I’m just some bloke on the internet, but this might be worth thinking about: There’s something called the Warburg effect that’s worth looking into. It was discovered about a hundred years ago by Otto Warburg, and it describes how cancer cells tend to rely on glucose (sugar) for fuel, even when oxygen is available. Most healthy cells use oxygen to efficiently generate energy through a process called oxidative phosphorylation. But cancer cells switch to a more primitive, less efficient method — fermentation — which burns through glucose rapidly and produces lactate. It’s like they’re addicted to sugar, and they use it to grow fast and out of control. This shift isn’t just a side effect — it’s a metabolic adaptation that seems to give cancer an edge. The interesting thing is that this glucose dependency can be exploited. If you starve the cancer of its preferred fuel, you can slow it down. That’s the logic behind ketogenic and carnivore diets in cancer therapy. By cutting out all carbs — including sugars and starches — you push your body into ketosis, where it runs on fat and ketones instead of glucose. Cancer cells, in many cases, can’t make that switch. They’re metabolically inflexible. So while healthy cells adapt, cancer cells struggle. There’s already clinical interest in this approach for hard-to-treat cancers like glioblastoma. This isn’t fringe — researchers like Thomas Seyfried and Dominic D’Agostino have been studying it for years. It’s not a cure-all, and it’s not a substitute for all treatment, but it’s a metabolic shift that changes the terrain. You can look up terms like “metabolic cancer therapy,” “Warburg effect,” “ketogenic diet cancer,” or “glucose restriction tumor.” There’s real science behind this. And if nothing else, it’s a non-toxic intervention that could make standard treatments more effective — or at least help your body fight harder. I’d like you to stay around, consider what I’m saying.
I know it's not set in stone yet what the outcome is going to be, but it's still very rough stuff to get through. You've been a real positive influence on us over the years and we're not giving up on you, yet! I'll definitely be keeping you in my prayers, and if there's anything we can do to help, please let us know!
Mat, you are an important companion and presenter to many of us audio enthusiasts. We hope you receive a better diagnosis and the best healthcare possible. Thank you for sharing your health update.
A note on cancer survival rate statistics. When trying to interpret them, always keep the parameters in mind. Are these statistics all time, or just within a certain time-span. If it’s the former, you can safely assume the survival rate is much higher in 2025. Do the stats differentiate between age groups, sex, etc? I’ve known 5 people who’ve been diagnosed with cancer over the last few years, All are outliving the prognosis that they Googled for themselves.
a friend of mine was given a similar diagnosis... and had the same sort of reaction from Doctors. Turned out it wasn't Cancer. I hope it's the same situation. My thoughts are with you.
Mate. I've had a think...in my head(old family joke that). You need to crowdfund immediately. There may be treatments that can help that the NHS can't give you (always think what King C the turd would get.
I don't plan on doing that. But thanks for the suggestion.
I feel sorry for what you're going through, and i do pray and wish that the doctors got it wrong. Please keep us in the loop, as we want to see you back healthy and happy
It never rains but it pours with health sometimes. Last year was an annus horribilis for me (that was how one of my nurses put it anyway) - after not feeling right and having horrible attacks of pain for a few months, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. During the tests, it was discovered I also had gallstones. A year, two surgeries and an aborted round of chemo later (turns out I was 1 in 200 who gets heart problems on the pills they use for bowel cancer) I'm feeling a lot better and the oncologists have discharged me. The funny thing is that with hindsight I believe that without the gallstones causing the billiary cholic attacks I may not have gone to the GP as early as I did. It's possible that if you hadn't been on this trial and/or had the flu, you wouldn't have had the same level of medical attention you've had and things may have progressed further along before being spotted. Regarding the gastrocopies/colonoscopies - the former (top down) is more unpleasant, but in my experience (one gastro and two colonoscopies) they drug you up much more for the gastro and I barely remember mine. The colonoscopies aren't exactly something I'd do as a hobby but they are not as horrible as you're probably imagine. Now, the bowel prep you do the day before - that's a literally pain in the ass but it is manageable. Use barrier cream to avoid an annus horribilis, as it were. As many others have said here, the advances that have been made around cancer treatment (surgery, chemo, immunotherapies, vaccines etc) have made things a lot different now than they were even a decade ago. Cancer is still a horrible disease but the NHS has invested in cancer care and I was personally surprised by how good my treatment and aftercare was. I found being open about my disease and treatment with friends, coworkers and family helped, and you're doing that here with your extended community. There are charities such as Macmillan and Maggie's who will be able to give you advice and support, including psychologically if you feel it is needed. One of the hardest things I found was losing a sense of having a future, or certainty in the future; the 'silver thread' as Terry Pratchett put it in Nation. I wish you and your wife all the best and also ask that you keep the Patreon up and running even if you're not producing content - cancer is expensive sometimes (hospital parking for a start!) and I think many people would be happy to chip in to soften the blow to your income.
Some may find it silly, but I'm worried like it's one of my close friends. We're with you ANY way you need, Matt!
Bloody hell, Mat - that's a load of old bobbins and no mistake. I really feel for you - very shocked, in fact. Let's just hope matters are at the better end of the range of possible scenarios - there's no information yet to suggest that they aren't. On the plus side, you seem to have more friends than the rest of us put together. Btw - although it now seems trivial - the air con unit is probably measuring the temperature of the air it is blowing out, and controlling itself against that. Air in a room doesn't mix as readily as you might think - it is prone to layering, amongst other things. When it blows warm air out from its high position on the wall, it may well form a warm layer close to the ceiling. The air con unit may have an option to connect an external temperature control probe to the unit that you can position midway down the room, which could result in better temperature control of the room as a whole.
I am not british, but "A load of old bobbins" is now part of my vocabulary. Thank you :)
It's so strange in life when you live in another country, speak another language but you get punched when someone who is somehow important is facing something like this. All my best wishes and energy for you and your family.
The first time I've felt I needed to watch the second half of one of these updates first, before the first half. Echoing best wishes and we're all with you!
Mat, not much else to say after everyone's well wishes. So read on only if you're in the mood for some levity. . . . You can become YouTube's first up-the-bum camera reviewer. Make sure to ask the operator for the video in the end. I wonder what bitrate it is, can it be played on an Apple TV, and does the camera depend on an Android app?
Sick joke aside, i once recorded my colonoscopy with a spy watch. I got Crohn's disease and an ostomy. The watch camera is 1080p 30fps and very good quality actually for 'that tiny pinhole in the figure 6'. I l was laying on my left side watching also the monitor and aimed my watch towards it. So you saw the nurses and operators talking, a piece of the ceiling and luckily most of the monitor. But know that although their endoscope camera gives a live feed on their monitor, they themselves don't record a video, they use it for diagnosing only and only take a few stills where the disease and stenoses, polyps and such can well be seen. As a patient to obtain those stills lateron was not an easy task as actually they are not so eager to give those despite being me being the patient. This in contrast to everything concerning radiology. I could ask radiology desk to burn a dvd with all my mri, ct and thorax scans no problems. Sometimes i have to pay for that dvd and sometimes i can get it for free. But colonoscopy stills... no.. Btw i am from The Netherlands. Don't know about the UK. So actually i am now the only or i think one of the very few persons who recorded a whole coloscopy apart from for instance tv channels. But what i did although i am the patient is still illegal and i won't show it on youtube either. However as i had documented and kept my medical history so well going back decades helped me in obtaining a disability allowance in retrospect for years back. I applied for a dutch 'wajong' and got it in retrospect which was a godsend compared to unenployment benefit where you had to show every spending and gifts no matter tiny. But i digress.
Very hard news to hear this. I wish all the best for you. Never give up. My mother had a cancer diagnosis and even started treatments when suddenly some of the doctors realized they'd misinterpreted the original scans or readings. She's fine at 75. So anything is possible I guess. Good luck, we're all thinking of your wellbeing.
All the best, Mat! I'm watching your videos for almost half of my life now. Therefore you, your humble personality and your videos naturally became a part of my life. This news surely aren’t the best. But no reason to be pessimistic. I am sure you will be around to bring joy, fascination and knowledge for many years to come.
I started writing a comment but I can't express it any better than everyone already has. We're with you, Mat. 🤍 (and don't you dare think you can get away with dying before we have a casual chat together about movies, music, gadgets, etc.)
Thinking of you and I wish you the very best. Hope you get better news very soon.
Hey Mat. I don't often comment on here or on YouTube, but just wanted to wish you all the strength, prayers, and everything else. You are one of a handful of creators I thoroughly enjoy, and I wish you all the best, and hope (as we all do) that things get better❤️
"As always, thanks for watching" brought me to tears just after you announced you had blood cancer... hoping you can get it cured, it worked for my cousin, I'm crossing fingers while keeping my thumbs up for you. Best wishes and hoping for the best medical team. Hugs from Paris.
I haven’t had any diagnosis yet…I’m still hopeful there’s another explanation.
I hope you find the answers soon and wish you all the best. Thank you for always brightening up such an anxiety filled life with your videos. Take care.
This one hit me hard. I - of course - only know you by watching your videos but I share so, so many views with you (about this "like and comment speeches" of youtubers, about fake thumb nails, about so many other things) that I feel close to your mind set. And I'm also in your age group and have experienced the same Tech stuff in my youth as you did. There are so many things I can relate to. So I be honest: Dare you die too soon! I mean it!
Mat, I normally don’t comment much. But now I want to tell you that I wish you all the strength and power you need. Your videos were always a highlight for me. So I wish all the best - be strong!
Absolutely devastated to hear about it, Mat. I've watched you since what feels like the dawn of time and whenever you pop into my notifications I always make sure I never miss seeing what you're getting up to. You seem like a lovely humble person and you're a great presenter. I really hope things go well for you :)
Mat, dont know how its possible, but you feel as much as a friend to me as one can do - without knowing each other. Your videos have given me more than you probably can imagine! Besides laughter and interesting "techy"-stuff you have given me nostalgia, and a sense of comfort! You are one of the most humane youtuber on the net! Remember, its been proven - to recovery easily, its important to also look inside - happy mind - happy body! I wish you the best, please, take good care of yourself, and I wish you a speedy recovery. Dont be afraid, its going to be alright, im absolutely sure. My absolute best wishes, Jim
My heart sank when i heard your medical story, even more so after your story about the liver. They saw a spot on my liver last year and heard the exact same things and also exact same thought, aaaw they can scoop that out and i will be alright back after. They did a biopsy and it was already all over my liver so it was end of story for me. Well i could have gone with chemo but would have only extended life and knowing how crude chemo is on the body i said leave it and let me live my last months in rest, but here i am still around. Now i really hope they are early with your liver. Btw Know that you can ask for being put to sleep for those (balloon) endoscopies/gastroscopies, you should ask for that you don't have to be awake. I have still some things hope to fullfill in live, but have arranged all things for if i am not there anymore. This also includes doing away stuff, giving to friends and relatives. Okay story gets long i know, but i had the idea of giving all my cd/cdvideoplayers (cd players that can only play the 5" gold cdvideos besides cd's) to give it to you Matt. I got 6 odd players of all known brands of those, one PAL and the rest NTSC and thought they would be in good company when i am gone. If you like i could still send them... But i am speechless.... also some bloodcancer type of thing. Noooo... please let Matt live some decades longer... I really hope there are still options for healing and really hope it will not be too painful or nasty all those procedures...
Simon, I’m so sorry to hear about your situation. If I found/find myself in your shoes I’d choose the same option regarding the chemo. I hope it’s not too intrusive a question but how do you feel day to day at the moment?
Hope the doctors are wrong Matt, please take care of yourself.
Mat! So sad to hear the news, I really hope you are keeping as well as you can in these times - I admire your courage and strength. Hopefully the new studio will give you something to take your mind off these health issues. Without trying to sound dramatic or sob-story-ish (if that's a word) I lost my father to cancer in 2019, and in many ways he reminds me of you- big into any sort of consumer electronics, dry, witty sense of humor etc. I am going to be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you Mat! Hopefully you enjoy your weekend.
I wish you all the best. Watching your videos, I've always felt like listening to a good friend.
Hang in there Mat, we got you in our thoughts and praying for a good outcome.
You're in my thoughts, Matt. I'm so sorry that this is happening to you.
Mat, what’s something that would bring you joy? What can we, as your community do for you, or on your behalf, etc that would bring you joy?
Peace and long life, Mat.
Damn, I'm sorry you're having to go through all this. Please know we're all pulling for you, Mat.
Mat, take care of yourself and your family. We’re behind you.
Heck. Not quite the update video we'd expected. Wish you all the best and hopefully all will be ok! 🤞
Damn. Keep your positivity at all times looking forward, I wish you the best outcome out of this, whatever it might be.
Best wishes, let's hope that it turns out to be nothing too sinister.
I am incredibly saddened to hear your news, it came as quite a shock. I have been a subscriber for many many years and always thought your videos are so natural and akin to talking to a really good mate. I am very inspired by your positive attitude and no fuss approach. I really hope they can help you back to recovery, there is an incredible amount of advances in cancer treatment today. Wishing all the luck and best wishes possible.
Naturally firstly wishing you some good health news. But meanwhile why have they installed the light switches upside down- you’re not in America.
all the best✌🏽. stay chill and take care.
Take care Mat and best wishes to you and your family.
It brought me to tears hearing this news, it’s nighttime here in Australia. I really hope things improve for you! Crossing fingers the results are good news. You bring cheer, technical support and laughter to our living room with your videos, I hope for a speedy recovery we miss you!
Looking at all these posts, it's clear that we are with you and fighting your corner. I've been watching your videos for years, it's not just the items that entertain, it's you - your dry wit, your knowledge but also because you're a nice genuine bloke. You are not going anywhere soon, we won't let you!! I'm a collector myself of movie related replicas and props. If ever want to chat to take your mind off things, I'm here and so is everybody else. Kevin.

Hi Matt, thinking of you and your family I admire your sense of humour and courage, wishing and hoping for the very best outcome for you. I saw thus video with Tucker Carlson and Japanese doctor on cancer treatment that I found very interesting. Will try and post it here.
Make everyone around you a favour and keep to your area of expertise, whatever it is, because medicine it is not. You are hurting people by spreading bullshit like this.
Good luck Matt, best wishes to you and your wife.
Hey Mat. I was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2020 and had a nephrectomy. Very scary and uncertain time but now clear. NHS were amazing. Look after yourself mate and I'm thinking of you. I was 46 when I found out.
I don’t dare look up nephrectomy, but congrats on your recovery.
Stay strong Mat you have a lot of people that care about you and with your positive attitude you will pull through sending you loads of Love and positive vibes take care Matt
That robotic switch finger is hilariously absurd. It's hard to believe that's a sincere product and not meant merely as a gag for amusement. Do you all not have WiFi-controlled smart switches in the UK?
Not in the office.
My heart is with you
Best of luck to you Mat. Take care of yourself and I hope it all goes well. Best wishes.
I'm so sad to hear this news, Matt. I do hope that the doctors can patch you up and you can have many more Techyears.
Matt your such an icon for so many people. I hate the big c so much. I will continue to support you no matter what don't feel forced to make videos for us focus on your health, I believe everyone is here for you!
All the best, Matt
I rarely post anything because I'm mostly lazy but also largely indifferent, not this time however - this update was too hard to stomach. Please take good care of yourself, Mat. Ask as many questions from the doctors as possible, push their buttons whenever you can as the whole NHS is a conveyor belt that sometimes comes to a stall and it's the last thing you want to happen. You are truly the light for so many and have gotten people, myself included, through the darkest times with your tech videos and, most notably, your wit.
Wow! That's a lot to contend with. All I can say is good luck with all of this stuff going on, and I hope for the best outcome.
Do what you have to. We're behind you.
Mat, if the hot/cold flashes continue maybe you can buy or import a BedJet from the US; it’s sort of like air conditioning but for your bed. A while ago I got sick a whole lot and would sweat so much, and the BedJet thing has a “dry” mode that completely solved the issue for me. Sending all the best wishes, hang in there! ❤️
I feel like I been gut-punched. And just get that damn endoscopy/colonoscopy, you won't feel a thing cause you'll be out. I really do hope for the best outcome possible, but if you have to fight- we will be here behind you!
Take care Matt. Wishing you and the Mrs. well.
If it's any consolation you're sounding a lot better; almost back to normal. Good on ya for getting those tests done and keeping that trademark sense of humor.
I was thinking the same for most of the video. You looked and sounded a lot better! Please try and be optimistic and keep you great dry sense of humour. You have a good 20 years or more to go yet :-)
Hi Matt. My best wishes for you. I'm a radiologist with experience with oncologic CT, and if you need help understanding results I'd be happy to explain them to you.
I'm sure you don't want to see yet another sympathy post, so I'll just say, best of luck to you and Mrs. Techmoan with your health issues and whatever comes next.
I’ve come back to this video a few times. It’s nice to see a lot of people really thinking about your situation and who care about your wellbeing. If there’s anything you’d like from Canada but couldn’t get due to the flying stuff, please feel free to let me know! Happy to send whatever your way.
I'm not going to lie, I skipped straight to the health update. Mat, your videos got many of us through the darkest times of lockdown. We've learned so much from you and your passion about this weird esoteric stuff has been an inspiration. We are here for you and urge you to do what is best for you, regardless of what it means for your video output. Also, it seems the US is not the only place that people fail to use straightforward words to describe situations to intelligent people. That feels so frustrating. I don't think we've ever seen or met the Missus, but our best to her as well.
Take some time to do/buy something fun. It's important to have some joy and laughter.
I'm just going to join in with all the comments. Not much to say other than all my thoughts and hopes are with you for the best outcome.
Don't lose heart, Mat. Get the rest of the tests, and see what your next steps are. Keep looking forward, that's almost as important as the treatment. Ask questions, and make sure they explain what they mean to your satisfaction, because looking medical terms up on the Internet will *always* make things sound worse than they probably are. We're all thinking of you, and hoping for your swift recovery!
Take care of yourself - take care of your family - that's all that matters. We are here for you.
Best wishes for your quick recovery!
Thank you for sharing these personal updates, Mat. I’m sorry to hear about the health issues you’re dealing with. I hope your specialist docs come up with an effective treatment plan for you. Modern medicine really can work wonders these days. Wishing you all the very best, from Melbourne, Australia.
Take care Mat Wishing you the very best 🙏
Oh Mat, I am so sorry to hear about everything you are going through. I’m heartbroken to hear the news of your latest health update - hoping that whatever it is, can be treated and you make a quick and full recovery. Sending my very best wishes, you and Mrs Techmoan are in my thoughts ❤️
Stay strong Mat.
I can't add anything else that hasn't already been said. You've brought years of entertainment and joy to our house. Saturday is known as Techmoan day. Hoping for many more years.
Take care and best wishes . All the best
My wife is a hospital consultant and is always appalled by the communication skills of her colleagues. She said you should always ask for/get a copy of the reports as they can often use medical terms that we, mere mortals don't use in our day to day life. Good luck Matt from a wet New Zealand.
I am a hospital consultant myself and agree that some of the communication you describe in this video is shocking but sadly not surprising. As well as getting copies of letters and tests, I always advise non-medical friends and family to bring a notebook & pen to appointments, take notes as needs be, and have any questions you want answered written down in advance. Anyways, beyond all that, stay optimistic, there is still a lot of unknowns here and many treatable conditions. Good vibes from Dublin, Mat.
Mat, I’ve been watching your videos for years now, and they’ve helped me though a lot of stuff. I really hope you’re doing okay and I wish you good luck for the best outcome. Stay safe pal, I’m routing for ya!
I just want to add my love and best wishes, for you and Mrs Moan, to the pile. I hope for the best possible outcome, whatever that may be. Remember that you both come first and you owe us nothing. We'll be here rooting for you tho.
Very best wishes, Mat.
Wishing you all the best Mat.
Well as you say, not much anyone can do until they confirm what it is but, looks like they could be related, blood cancer can cause shadows on the liver and spleen. And, blood cancer has a higher survival rate. Hopefully, it is neither and nothing to be concerned about, though. Keeping my fingers crossed for a positive or at least treatable outcome. Take care.
Mat, I'm not going to try and give you medical advice because every experience is different, but as the son of two doctors I'd suggest not taking medical advice from anyone on the Internet. Including me.
I never do. I just make sure I turn up for my appointments on time and do whatever the chap there says.
So sorry to hear that. Wishing you the best possible outcome, don’t let that b* get you!
It's still odd to me how someone I've never met nor know other than through youtube videos can feel like a friend in the way you do. Your content keeps me sane, your humour and outlook on life resonate strongly with me too. I hope everything works out and that you and Mrs Moan are as ok as you can both be.
It's called medical practice for a reason. I had a friend who was put in hospice. Three months later he was kicked out for failure to adapt. Seven years later he was buried. I had another friend who was supposed to die of liver cancer and failed to be bothered to die for a decade (and died of something else in the end). It's not over until *you* decide it is over. Keep on doing you. Keep on surviving. Keep on keeping on.
I'm really not one to comment, because I don't really feel like I have any thing to properly add. Still, it sucks you haven't been able to catch a break lately. Absolutely hope things turn around and get much better.
I certainly hope that you are able to recover from most if not all that is ailing you. As Jonas mentioned, they give you a sedative prior to doing any endoscopy. Unfortunately, I've had a dozen or so done over the past 2 decades. It really isn't too bad. I certainly wouldn't want to remember any of it and for the most part I don't.
Well damn, Mat! What a crazy sequence of health weirdness lately, seems you can't catch a break. Hard to even know which symptom comes from what anymore... Hoping for the best outcome here, whatever that ends up being.
Yes you’ve got it spot on about the symptoms.
Humble, open, honest. You are a fantastic creator and inspiration to us all. Focus on No.1 , Focus on getting the room to where you want it to be. We are all sending you positive thoughts
Jeez, we thought the Wifi not working for an hour this evening was bad news. But this sure puts things in perspective! Sending best wishes to you Mat.
Glad you're being poked and prodded and tested; seems like you're in good hands at least. Really hoping that it's not as bad as you think. Take care. We love you.
I'm sorry to hear that you are going through all this, I wish you the best Mat, take care
Can't save it enough times and im sure everybody on here wishes you the very best, please keep strong and I hope its good news. Sending best wishes 🙏
If/when they do stick things up/down you, see if you can get them to give you a decent dose of midazolam. It is a sedative which also causes anterograde amnesia, I e you are conscious and responsive but you have no idea what is going on and you don't remember a thing. It really is good shit, both me and the Mrs have been given it on occasion. Highly recommended.
Well that's some terrifying news for you to absorb and try to carry on with. Flippin' Heck is right. I hope perhaps the new office build will offer a focus outside of the stressful, uncertain times ahead. In any case, know that there are many people around the world, strangers like myself, who are rooting for you and along for the ride.
I’m so sorry that you’re going through this, but it’s good that you’re having everything checked out. I’ll keep praying for you. We’re all behind you 100%. ❤️
Shed some tears honestly. We've been looking after an 84 year old for end of life care for a couple of weeks and I just don't want this to happen to you. I'm so hopeful for you and I want this to work out.
Dear Mat, I know it's easier said than done, but try not to let the negative thoughts dominate your world. I whish you wholeheartedly all the best! P.S.: I had a camera up my bum, you get sedated and you don't notice a thing.
I had a camera up my bum without sedation. Bloody hell! Glad when it was over! The doctor was happily showing me stuff he was finding. I was just trying to go to my happy place!
If you are going through hell, keep going. —Winston Churchill
"We'll fight until hell freezes over and then we'll fight on the ice" - Vince Lombardi
Watched the rest of the video. I would honestly keep going, and make that garden room look as awesome as you want it. Reason… you enjoy doing it and it WILL take your mind off the crap stuff. It’s looking awesome, Matt, and it’ll continue to do so more and more as you keep going! I know I’m excited to see it all, anyway 😁 Lee
Flippin’ heck indeed… best wishes to you, Mat. Fingers crossed for better news ahead.
Thanks for sharing, Matt. If I weren't an atheist I would pray for you.
Why would that matter? I'm agnostic and I'm praying for him with everything I got.
Mat, as I wrote back when I joined the Patreon - I'm a radiologist and nuclear medicine physician, and happy to look at any imaging studies you had or help to answer medical questions. Sending my best wishes, regardless.
A brave and honest health update, Matt. You approach it with such humbleness and transparency, it’s really admirable. Very best wishes for a good outcome to this episode.
Well, I'd rather you didn't drop dead as well, Mat! So here's to hoping it's nothing serious.
Mat, whilst worrying and very unsettling, as you said in the video, have the tests and know what you are dealing with. The human mind can run amok when there is something going on that we don’t have the information to rationalise. Sending positivity for a clear and quick diagnosis of whatever is going on, and subsequent treatment. Whilst I cannot say I have been in your shoes, and don’t pretend to feel what you are - remember you are not alone! We all wish you nothing but the best, and if we can do anything to help - please ask! Take care Mat, we are here for you and Mrs Techmoan (and of course the real star of the channel “Bees Knees”!!
I feel for you. I had had a similar experience looking for the cause of one problem and finding another much more serious. I almost envy the up the bum option as my problem is bladder cancer and I've had two surgeries since late January that were via the urethra. Upcoming treatments the same route! I do hope that whatever it is that your treatment is not unpleasant and that your recovery quick with a good prognosis.
Do you know about Tracey Emin ? While I don't admire her art I do admire her for being so open about her health problems. The good news is she is in remission from Bladder Cancer.
That is terrible news, I was glad to see you slowly recovering again. All the best for you and the Mrs. in these tough times Mat, hang in there!
That sounds like such a difficult and uncertain time. I just want you to know that you’re not alone - there are so many people who care about you and are here to support you. No matter what happens, you have strength and resilience within you, and I hope you’re able to take things one step at a time. Wishing you comfort, hope, and the best possible outcome.
Chemotherapy is not fun. I took my phone, headphones, a book and a handheld games console. I mostly listened to music, i didn't feel like reading but I did play a fe basic games. I had three cycles of it, I do not expect much video output from you, I felt like you did when you were ill recently, too tired to do anything, too awake to sleep. My first day of chemotherapy was 8hrs, they measured my fluid intake and output (yes you have to wee in a bottle) I put on 2kgs after the first day. I was lucky as my Mum took care of me during that time, your wife may need time off work. The worst were the injections in my stomach to improve my immune system, they caused me to ache, paracetamol helped but do not be surprised if they cause a similar feeling. Regarding your immune system be wary of neutropenic sepsis, it is very easy to ignore. i was advised that if I had a headache or felt a bit ill I should call the hospital. On the day my hair fell out I also had a headache, normally I'd have taken some paracetamol and laid down for an hour. I had a wash and then rang the hospital, i was there for a whole week. The other one, though I really hope this doesn't happen, is that the chemotherapy affects blood clotting, I had some unrelated stomach ulcers but because of of the lack of blood clotting i vomited up a lot of blood, the ambulance rushed me to hosptial and I was there for another week. Good luck, try to ignore the chemotherapy sessions by listening to music and you will get fed up with or amused by the nurses asking for your name, first line of address and DOB even though you haven't moved all day and are clearly the same person you were when they asked the last time.
Mat, I just wanted to say that I'll be thinking of you and sending positive thoughts your way. I truly hope it is a false alarm and everything is totally fine, but if it isn't, on top of all of the support I'm sure you're getting from family and friends, you've got a global community of people rooting for you. Take care Mat.
I don't think I have much more to add compared to anyone else. Needless to say, what drew me to your channel, and to being a Patreon subscriber, is how honest and decent you have come across in every video. Life has a habit of throwing curveballs, and often at the wrong people, unfortunately. All I can say I wish you all the best for the test results and your continued recovery. Take care of yourself!
We are about the same age. And recently it hit me, that I won't live forever. And I'm in pretty terrible health. But it's better to know, then to not know. You seem to be dealing with it fairly well. Not much that can be done about it but hope for the best. Wishing you lots of strength Matt!
Hope it all works out for you. Sounds like they are on the ball with the checks and getting you in front of the right people just in case of the worst case.
Flippin' heck indeed, Mat. I'm 6,000 km away and I've never met you and I'm in tears for you. I can't do much but send good vibes to you and your wife. You probably can't imagine how many people there are in the world to whom you bring joy. Not sure if it's appropriate, but for what it's worth, I'll keep you in my prayers for the best possible outcomes.
I'm at a loss after watching this. I watched it, and my brain is in 'dial-up' mode. I don't think that even a reboot can fix it now. 🤍
A CT scan and contrast? I don't know how many times i've peed myself in my lifetime but you'd have thought during a CT scan I'd be used to the feeling but I never seem to be.
Welp, I think that "flippin' heck" really sums it up the best. The only words that can make this better are "false alarm" but I don't have the required qualifications to offer those, so we'll have to settle for: Best of luck to you, we all love you.
Hi Matt, love the show, take care mate.
Matt, I can't give any medical advice but it sounds like you are in very good hands with your medical team. I survived cancer in 2012, and I remember the uncertainty and fear, but I had some AMAZING doctors who saved my life. I hope everything works out OK for you, and if you want to talk to an Internet stranger of course you can reach out.
Thanks for sharing. I wish I could do something to help or cheer you up. Done the combo exploratory thing. The preparation is the wort part. Then they knock you out. Keep at it Mat. Do what you love. That is what life is about
Agreed about the preparation. Block book a toilet for 12 hours. The last few times they have persuaded me to not have full aesthetic. That means I know what type of Olympus endoscope the local hospital uses, and from their website how long the thing is ! Hope everything looks good when they do it.
This is the first time such a message of a public figure actually hits me, just keep on fighting. One cheesy quote I quite like for such periods in life: If you're going through hell, keep going
Well, as someone who's family has been through this many times all I can say is hope for the best but prepare for the worst. I can also say, though, that prognoses following cancer diagnosis are a lot better than they were 30-40 years ago. Back then it was months or even weeks. Keep on keeping on - you're in the hands of the health professionals now. As has often been said, it is what it is. Wishing you all the best of care and fortune.
We simple Northern folk have ways of dealing with mortality. I'm only 49 so I'm trying not to think about it. But I caught my father writing out the birth and death dates of his parents and his sisters (all of whom died of cancer), and his own date of birth with a question mark next to it. He's 71, and obviously contemplating stuff.
Wow, that's heavy stuff... (nothing to do with gravity) I wish you all the best Mat, hopefully you can still enjoy life for a while (and we your videos). By the way: I had both "sticking in" things done: once through my throat, once through my "bum", it was not that bad, only the preparation: not eating/drinking and emptying completely...
It's great to hear the strength of your voice returning, Mat, but all the rest of that stuff? Jings. You are remarkably pragmatic, a quality I find very admirable, but we certainly don't want you to drop dead either. I can imagine your frustration with the vagueness of the medical communication - who does that help? Clear, straightforward delivery of information should always be the order of the day, not hedging or refusal to really say anything. Almost like there's a word for the manner of how a clinician, in a clinic, ought to do it. Anyway, I hope that if this is something bad then you can get swift treatment, and in the meantime keep going with your office project (which I'm sure you'll want to do anyway) - having that purpose is only likely to help. I wish you all the best.
Mat, I'm a bit lost for words. The only thing I can wish for is a quick diagnosis and that the results may be better than expected. We, your supporters, will be here for you if you need to get things off your chest. Hang in there, mate 🍀💪🙏
30:42 -- I would also rather that you didn't drop dead, if my vote carries any weight. Best wishes to you, sir.
Wishing you and the Missus (and MoanCat) all the best. We'll be watching for many years to come - I am sure if it. 😻👍
I’m hoping that, if this is anything serious, they’ve caught it *very* early due to the medical scrutiny you’ve been getting from the trial. We’re all pulling for you!
Share as much as you want and need. Know that there are a tremendous number of people wishing you well and sending all sorts of non-denominational energy your way. The garden office will be magnificent!
I guess they say these things come in threes? Hopefully if cancer, it's been caught early and is localised - best of luck. 🤞🏻
When it rains, it pours with these things. Damn.
Yikes, not the best news. Keeping everything crossed for you and Mrs TM, must be a worrying time for you both. As always, I'm sure I'm not the only one keeping my subscription going no matter what, absolutely no pressure or expectations of videos while there's more important things to think about.
Regarding the air condition and controlling the temperature: Maybe it's more sensible to get a different unit. However, since it is IR controlled, you could add a simple mini computer with a IR sender and a thermometer to adjust the AC unit. I doubt your interested in a DIY project in this regard but here is a link anyway: https://youtu.be/watch?v=hU3o9eRRjLI
Aircon controllers and their instruction manuals are the most incomprehensible things ever. We have had aircon in our bedroom for years and it's still largely a mystery to me. PS when they do your endoscopy and colonoscopy, make sure they do your throat first! 😄
Well as far as tubes down your throat and up your bum, everyone has their own experiences with those with varying degrees of discomfort. I've had a colonoscopy which didn't bother me at all and also an NG (nasogastric) feeding tube which was a real bastard of a procedure to install, but after that it was fairly easy to deal with. Thanks for keeping us apprised of your health issues--there's nothing we can do about it, but I think it helps us to know what's going on. It's also nice to see the progress on the studio. Cheers Mat.👍
thanks for sharing everything. stay positive 👍
Let me show you a cool gadget I think you will like. I made a 59 second video for you. It's a smart switch that solves all your problems easily. https://youtu.be/nI8O_9Z7vR4?si=FzKdwFqc5J_abEUW https://a.co/d/7ZyuVlb They're pretty cool. Check to see if they're available where your are. Health: I expect that the blood and liver issues are related. I would be bummed too, in your position but it's pretty likely, considering how closely the two are linked, that it isn't two problems. It's likely just one. Not a doctor obviously. Just keep on keeping on. Nothing you can do about it, just follow doctor instructions. You'll handle this stress fine. You've got a good wife and a wise thought process. That already puts you way ahead of everyone else. Don't stress until there's something to really stress out about.
Thanks for the update Matt, terrible news indeed. Can’t imagine what you’re going through. But it ain’t over till the fat lady sings. Hope you’ll be alright !
wishing you all the best, Mat. like others have said: you've got this!
MPN. I have an MPN and am similar age to you (male), Essential Thrombocythaemia (ET) which is raised platelet levels (and they're misformed). I have lived with it for a few years and have regular blood tests every few months. I pretty much live a normal life though as my blood is under the platelet count for medication. I just take one small 75mg asprin a day currently. They tell me to drink lots of water, do excercise and take early nights to help with the symptons (fatigue, tingling skin, hot flushes etc - they vary from person to person). once my platelet levels go over a certain threshold I'll go onto taking a low dosage chemo type tablet most likely. If it is a MPN blood cancer you have, it is not the end of the world and most people live a pretty much full life. https://www.mpnvoice.org.uk/ is a good site for more info and help. Take care Matt an lets just see what the tests bring back.
Nothings over till it's over. Keep your stick on the ice.
Wishing you all the best Mat. Keeping everything crossed for you.
Well, crap. Hope everything goes as well as it can with the tests. For what it’s worth, my doctors were talking about sticking an ultrasound probe down my throat to look at my heart last year, and they assured me they’d knock me out for that. Never needed to have it done, but that was a reassurance. Hopefully they’ll do that for your unpleasant tests.
Good lord! Thanks for sharing this all. Been going through similar things with my mom. Same thing you mentioned about the doctors delivering news that sounds like it's not the end of the world, but then they ask if you'd like a moment to process, as if it's a very heavy thing... it's all very confusing and I wish they'd be more straightforward. Anyway, I'm just some guy on the internet but I do care about your wellbeing -- we all do here -- so please continue to keep us in the loop if you're comfortable with it, and be well!
Best wishes Matt. All the best to you.
I had a camera in one of the other orifices you haven't mentioned. The thought of it was far worse than the reality, if that's any help! With respect to your diagnosis, i had some personal experience, and my partner... I found waiting for tests, and subsequent results, was equally as bad as actually having the results delivered. Take time for yourself whenever you can.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
You’ve got this Mat. All the best
I'm not sure what to say except that cancer services tend to be prioritised by the NHS so you do generally get answers and a treatment plan (if needed) fairly quickly. I've had my own experience of cancer but I don't think there's much that can be learned from it. To cut a long story short, I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and was told that it had spread to my liver, lung and bones so the best I could hope for was delaying the inevitable for a few years with drugs. I'm still very much here and recently cycled 300 miles in a month for charity for the third successive year. I don't know if it helps you to know that your videos were a very nice distraction during a difficult period, especially the year when it was against the law or government advice to meet anyone. If it is cancer, people will immediately tell you that amazing advances in treatments have been made in recent years. That is certainly true.
We're all rooting for you. Whatever the diagnosis, good or bad, do what makes you happiest. Hoping for the best though.
You survived building up four ikea cabinets without going insane. You got the calm to go through this. We wait with you.
Thanks for the update, I think we all have our fingers crossed for you 🤞
Oh no! Sending my support!
You have a good attitude towards all this news. The fact that your illness lead to this discovery may be the best thing that could have happened. Last year by chance I had some random medical problems that revealed a mass inside my kidney. It was early enough that it hadn't spread and the problem was removed by removing one of my kidneys. It was also the motivation I needed to get other aspects of my health under control. I'm hoping it all works out for you.
Thank you for sharing that update Mat. It's a bit frustrating to hear about those medical professionals giving their vague general sympathies while refusing to spell out what their exact concerns are. You'd hope they'd understand that it's an unhelpful way to act! It sounds like you've got the right attitude- wait and see, and try to minimise the amount o worrying during the "wait" part.
Keeping fingers crossed for less worse news Mat. Health first.
Matt, Were the binds made to measure and where from? Been looking myself for a solution to my back door which is like yours, a full length double glazed door. Many thanks in advance..Tim.
..and just watched your health update...Stay safe Matt...forget the.blinds and get yourself better..! Priorities!
Wishing you all the best with the health worries 💜
Hey Mat, Just so you know…we are not going anywhere. Keeping all the fingers crossed.
Oh Matt, there's nothing useful to say but good luck with it all. Terrible business - keep trucking dude, you'll have many people rooting for you (for all the good it does I know). Hope the missus is bearing up too.
What sort of MAN are you! Reading instructions!
F***ing hell, Matt. You don’t do anything by halves do you pal. Yeh, as if I was gonna watch the Techmoan segment of the video first 😂 Nope, straight to the nitty gritty, me!! Well, I can’t give any advice as you’ll be already doing everything you can. But, I do wish you all the love and warmth in the world, bud. We’re behind you dude!! Right, gonna watch the Techmoan part of this video now 😁 Lee
I wish you the best health mate, you are my absolute favorite YouTuber and your content really brightens my day every time I watch it! Trying to show my friends the videos you make, they can't understand why I'd watch hours upon hours of tape players but that's only 50% of the reason. The other 50% is you being in the video, and hearing you talking about these things. You truly make YouTube and the world a better place!
Mat, let’s hope the doctors are wrong on this one. I wish you all the very best, and if the worst comes to the worst, remember that you owe nothing to us. But I know we’ll be behind you whatever happens.
Oh man, this was not the update any of us were hoping for. You have our support for whatever comes. Man, and we just lost Don from Novaspirit Tech.
Health services are super quick these days with cancer investigations so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long to get some answers. Keeping fingers crossed for you that prognosis is good.
Oy vey. Can’t catch a break. Here’s hoping they get you some answers. Also, here’s hoping they do the throat scope first. Don’t want them mixing it up.
Mat ❤️❤️☺️☺️ Will watch tomorrow. Just today watched last video. I will save this for Saturday or Sunday No weekend without Techmoan 🥰🥰
You're not going to like it :(
