Principle of neuromechanical matching

Recently, it has become popular to suggest that the principle of neuromechanical matching has little evidence behind it. Here is a list of the major investigations into the phenomena (the article is limited mostly to human studies because it would otherwise take too long to compile).

This couldn’t have come at a better time. After Mike Israetel’s clip saying “NMM is made up”, there have been multiple other “PhD”s posting that opinion on TikTok. Conveniently, they also dismissed you as only using “untrained and animal studies”. Yet when I asked them why and when we can use animal studies (given all the other areas of science that have been discovered through them) they of course couldn’t provide an answer. These “PhD” commentators are a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

Also, a few months ago I was arguing with Greg Nuckols back and forth in a comment thread on Instagram. When talking about the stimulating reps theory, I mentioned what I saw Paul post, where the only studies showing growth with high RIR are on untrained elderly. He tried to claim this isn’t true and there is more evidence than that. I think it would be great to see a post about this in the future if possible!
