Combine your profiles by July 6th and unlock the new Patreon network
Over the next week, creators will have access to new privacy controls to give you agency over how you combine profiles. Read on for everything you need to know about the requirement.
Starting today, we're launching new privacy controls that let you decide how your memberships and activity appear when you combine your creator and fan profiles into a single identity.
We previously announced this deadline as June 30th and are now extending it to July 6th.
Why combined profiles are necessary
Patreon has a new Home feed and post type called Quips that help you reach out into a network of nearly 80 million fans every time you post. In order to access this new network, you’ll first have to combine your creator and fan profiles into one single identity anytime between now and July 6th.
Patreon's network is built to help creators grow through real connection, not attention sold to advertisers. A combined profile is essential to how that works — when you show up as one person across Patreon, whether you're posting your work, engaging with members, or connecting with other creators, every interaction contributes to being surfaced in more fans' feeds and getting your page in front of new audiences.
New privacy controls, rolling out this week
Combining your profiles changes how your identity appears on Patreon. To help protect your privacy and give you more control over how you show up, we’ve introduced new privacy settings and controls. Read on more below to learn about the settings and controls.
For all creators on Patreon, whether or not you’ve combined your profiles:
You now have more control over the visibility of your memberships and member activity with new Privacy settings. In your Privacy settings, you can adjust if your memberships are shown publicly, if your activity is highlighted, and you can customize the visibility of memberships and activity at a creator-level. You can read more about these visibility controls in our Help Center and head to your Privacy settings at any time to adjust them.
If you haven't yet combined your profiles and have previous activity and/or active memberships:
You will have access to additional privacy controls for you to adjust before combining profiles. You'll be able to access these when you combine profiles and you’ll be notified in Patreon and over email when you can combine your profiles with the new controls. Once you’re notified, you can head to your creator page to combine your profiles. These controls are rolling out starting today. Here are the additional privacy controls you’ll have access to when combining profiles:
If you have active memberships, you can:
Keep some or all of your current memberships from being publicly visible — only creators you're a member of will see your current membership
Cancel some or all memberships — you'll have access until the end of your subscription period. Your name will be hidden from that creator, but your past activity will remain visible unless you delete it before combining.
Show memberships publicly — your current memberships will be visible to others, which also helps others discover creators you support
We recommend making your memberships public, to help support your page discovery and the communities you engage with across Patreon.
If you have past member activity (chats, DMs, likes, comments), you can:
Delete all past activity — takes effect immediately, before you combine. You’ll need to rejoin any chats or DMs that you were a part of as a member.
Keep your past activity — your past activity will be updated to display under your creator name
If you’re a part of any member chats or DMs and choose to delete your member activity, you’ll need to rejoin the chats and DMs after you combine your profiles, as deleting activity removes you from those conversations.
Once you set your preferences, your profiles will combine. Give it about 10 minutes to take effect. Going forward, you can adjust your membership and activity visibility anytime in your Privacy settings.
If you don't have any active memberships or past member activity
These additional options won't appear when you combine profiles as they are not applicable to you. You can however update your Privacy Settings at anytime to control the visibility of your memberships and member activity.
What happens on July 6th
All creators must combine profiles by July 6th. If you haven't taken action by then you won’t be able to use Patreon as normal — including posting and payouts — until you complete the process.
Starting in August, if you still haven't combined your profiles, they will be automatically combined. Your active memberships will stay in place, but will be hidden from the creators you're a member of. If you have past member activity (likes, comments, chats, DMs), it will be deleted. Once automatically combined, you'll have full access to Patreon again.
We'll send reminders as July 6th approaches both here on Patreon for Creators and over email.

A note for Adult/18+ creators
Over the next week, Adult/18+ creators will be able to combine profiles and immediately unlock access to collaboration posts — co-authored posts with other Adult/18+ creators that get your work in front of both audiences.
The above privacy controls will also be available to you. You’ll receive a notification in Patreon and an email from us when you can combine your profiles.
Access to Patreon Video and Quips are coming to Adult/18+ creators starting in the coming months, rolling out together. Quips published by Adult/18+ creators will initially be visible to your members only. Creators who combine profiles before July 6th will be prioritized to access these new features once they begin rolling out to Adult/18+ creators. We'll notify you when access is ready.
Adult/18+ creators in the new Home feed
While Quips from Adult/18+ creators will initially by accessible to your members only, work is underway to bring Adult/18+ creators’ posts and Quips into the Home feed to reach new fans as part of discovery. We will share more information and updates as they become available.

this should have been optional. creator profiles and fan profiles existed as two different accounts helped people to keep posting on one and interacting with other. also i feel like the change is sudden and forced. also why i am asked to delete my past activity when combining profiles. feels like we cannot trust our accounts with our data. why is the only option we have is to show my fan account comments as a creator or delete years of interactions. why isn’t this optional. there are tons of creators who have two accounts with teo personas and either they are forced to delete the interactions or make everything public. i understand this helps with backend of the patreon but i don’t like making this a mandatory change.
Well, after about 1 month since I’ve combined my profiles I can say it has not been a good idea. The page is quite messy (I’m a creator, not a paying member of anyone and I get a lot of suggestions about members to follow). On the other hand, it seems that my page has become quite invisible: I had just 2 new (free) members only. Before I had many more. Moreover, as I’m a 18+ content creator, I still can’t use the so strongly celebrated Quip…so what’s the gain? Did anyone else experience the same?
Great... now our personal and creator profiles are one in the same! There goes any privacy we thought we had keeping them separate.

You'll be able to choose whether your memberships are shown publicly, whether your activity is highlighted, and even customize those settings for individual creators. I have clicked on every link to "combine profiles directly" and get nothing. I have no idea HOW to do what you're asking, and it seems rude to tell us that we'll lose our access to our page when there's nothing here as to how to comply.

So just for the record, this is a horrible change to force on creators. Not even giving us the option to remain separate is so obviously for Patreon's convenience and benefit, not ours. This is such an extremely frustrating change, I run another Patreon for an organisation and I do not wish to merge this at all. My personal identity has nothing to do with this organisation. I really wish Patreon had given the option to split into two separate accounts. Now I need to abandon personal activity on that account

Showing other creators on our Patreon home pages is a mistake. It feels like Patreon is redirecting attention away from the very creators who brought those members to the platform in the first place. This feature mainly benefits newer creators with few or no members—nothing to lose and everything to gain. Established creators, on the other hand, have spent years building communities and loyal memberships. We are the ones who stand to lose. At best, this feature simply shuffles members from one creator to another. At worst, it encourages supporters to leave creators they already follow. I struggle to see how that benefits creators who have invested significant time and effort into growing their communities. Why is there no opt-out option? As creators, we pay platform fees. Many of us are not comfortable paying those fees only to have Patreon recommend other creators directly to our members. We work hard to attract supporters, create content, and build communities. Naturally, we want to retain those members rather than have their attention diverted elsewhere. Imagine walking into Asda and seeing advertisements throughout the store encouraging customers to shop at Tesco instead. It would be considered bizarre marketing. Yet that is effectively what Patreon is doing by promoting competing creators on our own pages. What made Patreon successful in its early years was its simplicity. It was a fantastic platform for creators: a place to build a community, connect with supporters, and grow a sustainable membership business. The recent direction—Chats, Quips, and now creator recommendations—makes Patreon feel increasingly like a social media platform rather than a creator membership platform. At the very least, creators should be given the choice to opt out of competitor recommendations on their own pages. That's my feedback, for whatever it's worth.

Since you have made these changes- we now have spam accounts. Two today that we reposted. Not sure if they are related but we have never had that before (at least so obvious). We also feel for privacy we should be allowed to keep separate. Many businesses have teams (we do) and real-life professions. The real way to grow is to redesign your tech so accounts can be found through SEO/AIO. Thank you.

Merging accounts should be optional. Or at least let us use a separate name for posting. My 3D modeling/disability advocacy page is very different from my other interests, and I LIKE them separate. Posting as the name of my business on personal stuff looks so sloppy. Plus having a separate account and email is an accessibility nightmare. What happened to privacy?
Agree. It's like there is a hidden motivation here- smoke and mirrors to growth opportunity which is really just creating more chaos and distraction for people. Not a good move.

So, what happens if we DO NOT WANT TO COMBINED our "two" accounts yet want to stay on following other creators we like? My "creator" account is currently TURNED OFF because someone on this site keeps harassing my creator posts by "flagging" them as "porn" and other bullshit EVERY TIME I POST CONTENT. Seriously, I just make STUFFED ANIMALS (my made up creatures). So if you force this combination of the two "accounts" on me then I'm the one being HURT on this "safe" site again. -__- I'm beginning to believe that you creators/owners of this site is trying to be like Facebook and the other bullshit online sites by Forcing unwanted and unnecessary changes on members.

What happens if a creator doesn't update/accept, at least before the deadline?
Hey there! If you haven't combined your profiles by July 6, what happens next depends on whether you have any memberships or past member activity. If you don't have any memberships or previous member activity, your profiles will be combined automatically starting on July 6. If you do have memberships or past member activity, you'll be prompted to decide how to handle them before combining. Until then, some creator actions (including posting and payouts) may be unavailable. If profiles still haven't been combined by August, we'll automatically combine them. At that point, any past member activity will be deleted, and any memberships will remain active.

I have absolutely no interest or desire to combine my profiles. They were very tidy as separate entities, and I'd like to keep them that way. I have enough FEEDS to manage already. I don't need this nor do I want this.

I do like that I don't have to keep switching to my creator profile every time I open the app, but where has the notification button gone?? I can no longer keep track of comments and activity from my members. I don't always get email notifications and sometimes the link to the comment doesn't work. I really dont like that it's no longer available. It was my most used feature on the app. I regret combining profiles now.
I think it was better to have the profiles separate. I don't feel like the app helps me with my business at all. What really needs to happen is a separate creator app. One just for managing the business aspect. I don't want to see other creators feeds when I'm trying to manage my page's engagement.
I am beyond frustrated with this change. Separate profiles offered a way to keep work and life separate. As a follower of 18+ content, I do not want my brand as a creator to suffer from my engagement with this content. Deleting activity or cancelling memberships are not adequate solutions and negate the supposed "point" of this update: broadening creator reach. I foresee low engagement and a direct detriment to 18+ creators for fear of someone's personal life being forced into part of their "branding strategy" when leaving comments. Why should I be forced to delete or hide my activity simply because my business has been forced into the conversation? Perhaps the true point of this update is to increase the number of "members" on Patreon since some may be forced to create separate business and personal accounts. Do better by those you claim to serve.
It's not even strictly relevant to 18+. I'm about to start another podcast that has NOTHING to do with the game my current podcast is about. I do NOT want them connected in any way. I'll be leaving patreon if they don't back off of this from the pushback by the time we come off hiatus this fall.

Hey there, the team recently paused the rollout, which is temporarily preventing creators from combining profiles. If you don't see the option yet, you'll be notified both in-product and via email once the new privacy controls and profile-combining flow are available on your account.
I'm still confused. Are quips just regular posts, or do we have to do something special to label it as a quip? I received an email saying I am in, but nothing seems to have changed other than my combined profile. Anyone with insight?

Right now creators who make work suitable for Adult/18+ audiences are not yet able to publish Quips. It looks like you successfully combined your profile, so you will be among the first Adult/18+ creators to get access to both Quips and Patreon Video when it begins to roll out. I love the combined profiles and quips so much!!! However as a smaller creator, whatever change happened to the quip insights has made my views super low. It’s disheartening to feel made invisible by another algorithm. When the program launched, I was getting thousands of views and 5 free patrons a week. Since the switch, almost 0. I know no system is perfect, was just so exciting to feel empowered to grow my audience organically and effectively.

As a creator, I wish we had the option to keep our home page our creator page. I also don't want to clog my members' notifications up with quips. I post for my members, not to compete in a new public feed algorithm.
I did unfollow one creator two weeks back because his quips just dominated my membership feed. I didn't want to, but I couldn't find my stuff anymore

As an illustrator of 18+ romance art I want to say thanks. I hope this can give creatives like myself a place to grow as I find myself constantly stuck inbetween platforms where either my art is too spicy or platforms that are too extreme for me.
