lap reading for infants & reading while infants nap on laps
this mod adds two new interactions with infants:
sim reads a book to an infant sitting on their lap;
sim reads books and boosts skills while an infant naps on their lap.
requires the xml injector
base game compatibleupd. nov. 26, 2025:
- fixed an issue that caused infants to sometimes not gain fun during the interaction;
- lap reading now gives you the opportunity to complete the 'successful lineage aspiration' task 'read to a child';
- all "give baby a nap while reading..." interactions are now hidden from the front page of the social menu;
- now works with the add-on that lets you change animation type for each sim individually.
here's a look at the full animations:
male sims have the same animation, with a slight adjustment in leg position.
both actions require a nearby couch, bench or living chair.
I didn't make the page-turning animation. i hope you don't mind, it would have made the process 10 times harder...
the books appear automatically.
this is what a children's book looks like inside:
the adult book features cover art by illustrator daniel stolle.
the children's book's exterior texture is artwork by ekatamandalIllustration.
the children's book's inner texture features artwork by e. bauman and a. arinushkin.
lap reading
to start "lap reading", go to the "friendly..." --> "activities".
after the activity, both the adult and the baby gains increases in their "social" and "fun" stats, plus the following buffs:
reading while infants nap on laps
for this interaction, head over to the "baby care" menu --> "give baby a nap while reading...". you'll find several options here.
the "give a nap while reading fiction book" option only adds 'fun'. the other options add a smaller 'fun', but they help develop various skills (skills are only from the base game). the baby gains increases in "social" and "energy" stats.
after the action, both the adult and the child receive the following buffs:
note that if an infant has the 'hates being carried' trait, they will not receive the buff. similarly, an adult sim with the 'hates children' trait will not receive the buff.
i tried to make the action work for toddlers too, but i haven't figured out how yet. these interactions, like my previous mod "take a nap with infant", are based on the "give infant a nap" action. adapting them for toddlers requires deeper modding knowledge. i hope that either i or someone else in the modding community will figure out how to make it work in the future.

💞💞💞
Can infants get any milestones from this?
they gain a small amount of development, so milestones can progress during this interaction
Hi! I noticed that the link to the French translation is no longer available, so I made a new French translation for the latest version of the mod. Thanks a lot for your work on this mod! https://www.patreon.com/posts/traduction-lap-152199764?utm_medium=clipboard_copy&utm_source=copyLink&utm_campaign=postshare_creator&utm_content=join_link
thank you so much!!
love your animations! unfortunately this mod doesn't seem to be working for me. i have it in a folder with several of your other mods, and they're all working well, but i'm not getting the options for lap reading or reading while infant naps. could totally be a one-off bug with my game, but i was just wondering if you had any suggestions!
thank you! so sorry for late answer! I recommend to check if you have 'xml injector' mod v.4.2 in your mods folder
I translated your Lap Reading Mod into German: http://www.simfileshare.net/download/5752432/
thank you so much for your work! 💛
Favourite animation modder. You really put a lot of heart into this game it wouldn't have without your mods. I have one question; the book in the video of this post on the left (man mowing yellow lawn), I recgonise it but cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. Google lens hasn't helped. Do you happen to know the name of the book? Or does anyone know it. Plssss
thank you so much for the kind words! 💞 i’m not sure if there’s an actual book with that image. i only know it’s art by illustrator daniel stolle. here’s his website (https://www.danielstolle.com/), and here’s where i found the image (https://ru.pinterest.com/pin/422281211485383/)
love this animation!!! its made my game feel so much more alive, wish we could do this with toddlers too!
thank you 💕 sadly when an adult picks up a toddler and sits down the game throws an error( right now i made a mod when sim can read to a toddler while cuddling on the toddler bed. but similar version of this mod for toddlers is likely beyond what i can do(
Hiya! Love the mod! However I noticed that there is no option to read the parenting manual whilst the infant naps, I was wondering if that would be a possibility in the future? Of course then I got to thinking that wouldn't it be nice if the sims could read any book? Of course I have no idea how hard any of this would be to do :-) Now that I have tried the interaction mine seems to cancel out immediately, with an X over the interaction. Any help would be appreaciated :-)
thank you so much for the kind words and thoughtful comment! i’d really love to update the mod soon so that sims can read any book while the infant naps. i’m not sure yet if it’ll work, but since it worked in the “read in bed” mod, i think it should be possible here too. hopefully i’ll get around to it soon! 💖
sad we cant nap with toddlers lol
it makes me sad too :( i still hope one day it’ll be possible to make it work somehow!
