[PUBLIC EPISODE] The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One: ep011 Promises Promises
Here we are, at the altar, and who could object to these sacred vows? Promises promises. Easy to break'em easy to make'em. What's your word worth, anyway? Do you mean what you say? Can we forgive those who trespass against us, or do they, like us, deserve what they get? And who's gonna give it to em, you? It's bad over here, sure, but the only way out is through. Any volunteers?

Good freaking God, Aabria pissed me off so freaking much
On a related note, PRAYING for an eventual Ami crash out on suvi(sorry if wrong spelling)
The character work and like depth is so well done because in the children’s adventure I would have (and still will) kill for suvi and now I’m so sick of hearing her be a self important brat but ik y she is behaving that way ugh so good
I am just getting caught up on this and I love it so much, but I'm really struggling with how much of a bully Suvi is.
Plants don't grow that way You get what you fucking get, Cuz she can't hold both.
Hello
Poor Suvi and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day 😭. So cathartic though!!!!
Yea🫶🏼
If I screamed at another PC like Suvi did I'd get kicked out of the table lmao, 10/10 acting and role playing
It's so interesting to see Ame coming into her power out in the world, while Suvi out in the world is falling apart completely - it makes sense to me, especially as so much of Ame's understanding of the world is being OF it, in flow with it, while Suvi's is so much about being ABOVE it, able to master it. Loving this!
This episode will not load in my podcast app. It just does not show up at all. 😕
What app do you use? Have you tried another? Or loading it from a webpage instead of in the app? It worked for me in both Google podcasts and Spotify (and of course here)
I’m a huge Steel fan but I’m scared
STRESSFUL. Also, everyone's amazing.
This episode made me realize I would not want to be near Suvi when the cops question us
I must say, it is utterly delicious for Suvi - young, naive, status-obsessed Suvi - to get status-checked SO HARD by (her surrogate mother, yes) but, more importantly, the Sword of the Citadel. There’s no question that Suvi is outrageously talented and special. But the way she has been treating everyone deserves the public dressing down, me thinks. (Because, most ironically, Suvi didn’t help ~at all~ during the conversation with Orima. She was on mute!! She could have followed directions from Steel and probably wouldn’t have gotten the whole group into this situation!) Incredibly well-played, Dice. Also, kudos to Aabria for your sheer level of commitment to this series of rolls offered by the dice.
Hey, Brennan, are you doing what I think you're doing with the way the spirits use the word "breath"? Maybe harkening back to ancient greek "psyche," which translates to "breath," but also can mean, "butterfly," or "soul"? Maybe havin a little bit of a Metamorphosis? 😉
I love this question, tell us Brennan!
Based on what Aabria has said about daring Brennan to kill her character, maybe she’s pushing him to knock Suvi down hard. We’re not expected to be enamored with her bad behavior, slanted logic and status checking. I’m just really ready for some growth. I can’t take years of Suvi-Ame bickering before I slink away for the next town over.
De-radicalize the child soldier, please! And find her a tailor, she's way too big for her britches.
Things went so badly so fast omg 😂
Jesus that was a lot. Aabria was perfect all along. Chaos bless her soul!
This may be the first time I've ever see a D&D character grounded (or at least that is seeming likely given where we are at the end of this episode).
Maybe the dice are mad a Suvi for what she said...
When suvi said that "you get what you fucking get" line, oh man.... If I was Eursolon I'd be like "bitch you trapped me here by bathing me!"
We need Aabria to tell us she knew what Suvi was saying, because it was friendship-killing levels of wrong despite Ursalon not reacting to the comment that way.
Am I the only one concerned they haven’t found ghost, she went to the azure battalion and was told to use Suvi’s name. Where is flicker and ghost are the alright!
Unless it happened 'off camera' the 3 never informed the Azure Battalion to expect her. She may have been turned away at the gate as a beggar...
Suvi is gonna build a great wall between the spirits and humans
Brennan’s so scary ;-; (Tysm I love this episode and am so worried for the next)
I love the dichotomy of how Suvi is looking down on these people that washed out of the Citadel, or aren’t living up to her own ambition, but is really struggling without the structure and comforts living within the Citadel provides. She’s currently washing out of the rest of the world, and still barely realizes how out of her depth she is in some ways, but Steel is definitely about to let her know. Love the commitment from Aabria!
It's really giving Gifted Child suddenly goes out in the world and realizes they aren't such a hot shit. I feel for her so much even while I'm mad 😂
I am SO stressed. Can’t wait for the Fireside on this one.
I love seeing Aabria commit to how Suvi would react to the world outside the Citadel and the stresses it holds. It honestly shows her skill as an actress, a player, and that this group is a safe place to explore that. I am gobbling up everyone’s character arcs.
I feel like all these people upset with suvi's "flawed behavior" are completely forgetting what it's like to be 20, overwhelmed with trauma, and out of your depth in a completely unfamiliar way. Her parents were taken from her while she was sent away, then she was raised as a child soldier, of course she's not used to adjusting her worldview at all.
Her choices are canny given her privilege. I’m not certain we’ve seen how her trauma plays into it yet.
do we know when the transcript for this ep will be out?
Usually over the weekend after the episode drops but it has sometimes come earlier or later.
Oof, Suvi. Oof.
There is something unyieldingly funny about Suvi saying that she fundamentally hates Orima because this isn't Orima's world and Suvi doesn't want Orima to hurt more people, to verbally expressing her desire to kill those 4 guards at the wall later that day. "That great spirit shouldn't kill people, that's my job!" Excellent roleplaying from Aabria and everyone this episode.
EXACTLY. It's not that Suvi has anything against Orima per say, it's that Suvi believes that she and her people (the Citadel) are superior and that everyone else "get's what they get". It's nothing personal. It's how the world is. It's a brilliant exploration/expose of privilege.
As much as Suvi the character is deeply flawed I just wanna applaud Aabria for the performance it was so consistent and powerful even if everytime she spoke I got more and more worried.
I love this show so much but oh my GOD just the conversation with Steel took ten years off my life
FOR REAL I'm enjoying the hell out of this but the STRESS, the STRESS
I actually hate Suvi right now so much that it's hampering the fun. Props to everyone else for tolerating that constant pissy tantrum storm
I think Suvi is a very well crafted character. But she's a character. You on the other hand are a real person being 'pissy' as you say, borderline hateful, leaving three whole mean comments on a patreon - that you pay for - which is wild. Please calm down and get kinder.
Bruh. The Suvi and Ame dynamic is killer. That's some growth. Sit down, Suvi. Grown folks is talking now.
Someone get Aabria an Ativan
Ativan is a great name for a hedge mage.
~Knew you'd never Keeeep~
spoiler warning ⚠️ in comment below
In episode 10, when eursalon says "not ame" or something along those lines, brennan's voice takes a very acute switch to sounding like the spirit of the night when he says "the witch's name is ame" . . . I believe this is the conundrum this is what orima means when she says the sentiment "there is no way out, only through" is truer than they believe.
Can we get the new episode next week plz? …please.
Damn, what a raw line and intense moment to end on. I'll just be here, holding in my scream.
That’s some spicy dice rolls
Aabria, what rituals are you going to use on your dice to get them back on your side?
genuinely considering sending this to aabria's askbox on tumblr
Brennan yelling at Suvi as Steel was so stern my own feelings were starting to get hurt lol 😭🥺 I can’t wait another 2 weeks for the next episode, any chance you could perhaps drop it tomorrow? 🤞🤞😉
Oh my god, Aabria, burn the dice already!
Suvi, Ms "Mock Orima and be so effing lucky she's on mute" yelling viscerally at Ame to shut up to Steel made me so very annoyed. (in the best way. EXCELLENT rp, but also ready for Suvi to get her comeuppance next episode)
Please no one send better dice to Aabria. Suvi needed to have her privilege finally checked and her dice just decided to have an impromptu intervention. This is a process in progress.
I always wonder how it feels, for GM and PC, when every single decision made just gets worse and worse? Like wow
Is there a way we can send our lucky dice to Aabria? Because wow
What scares me the most from Suvi’s spiraling is how little she cares for the lives of anyone not of the citadel. She’s killed a captain, not the thing she was the vessel for, she has threatened spirits, and now she even wants to kill members of the Azure battalion. She throws around killing things like a “murder hobo”
I love Aabria but god is good to see someone checking Suvi’s arrogance
The fact I have to wait 2 weeks for the sequel to this is criminal. CRIMINAL.
I KNOW I CANT DEAL WITH THE BIWEEKLY EPISODES
Brennan coming in with the Angry/Disappointed parent voice. Most terrifying thing on this podcast
Hard agree, omgs
Oh no Suvi, poor thing seems on the verge of a panic attack the whole time
Suvi, master of "you don't back down, you double down"
Suvi's massive rant and just literal crickets in the background 💀 SO GOOD
Suvi put on the back foot finally restored some balance to the group. I know Aabria has designed her with juicy character flaws, but I find her arguments maddening most of the time.
Brennan being very angry women is excellent and terrifying
Also shout out to everyone *going with* the bad rolls. This is something you don't see enough. If a player is getting consistent bad rolls it is because something is happening. LOVED Brennan and Aabria exploring it to find out what was going on with Suvi
Watching Suvi get dice-humbled was *mwah*! Chefs kiss
I was laughing so hard during this ep as the dice just abused the characters and Sufi imploded. I then went and listened to part 2 of A County Affair, which had me laughing even more. It was a delightful afternoon, though I might not have been as productive doing some household chores as I otherwise would have been.
Wow. Every episode more fantastic than the last. Immersive, high tension, and the sound design is impeccable. Love it.
Such a spectacular and dramatic episode but the little conversation on the way back about whose world this is and what that is for was my favourite part. I love that exploration of the tension between the big forces the three represent and how their time apart and general naivety shapes their perspective. Everyone is so willing to get in each others way and I love it. Such great performances and story making by everyone.
Oh my GODDD yall cannot expect me to wait another two weeks on that scary ass cliffhanger that had my Oldest Daughter syndrome sweating 😭😭
Do we think Suvi's still the Apprentice to the Archmage Silence after all of this?
My guess is no
I don't think I've ever seen dice want someone to get scolded so badly....what on earth would have happened if Operation Pregnant Sister succeeded?
Not gonna lie, I think Steel is a scarier cliffhanger than Orima was... 😅 Also, I love the Citadel theme so much but I have to ask, is it Drop of Nelson's Blood? 'Cause it sure sounds like it, and it's making me want more epic instrumental covers of shanties.
It is indeed Drop of Nelson's Blood! So glad you like it!! -t
This episode almost needs a trigger warning. The ending of the episode was just pure anxiety.
literally, Steel giving me parental trauma flashbacks in full force. incredible performances all around but i was not ready for that 😅
Not Suvi being a spirit-cist 😩😩😂. Love the episode, thank y’all so much!
This was such a good episode! I was so nervous for the rest of the encounter with Orima but you did so well. Ame stepping into her power as the witch was beautiful and I'm so excited to see where that goes. Watching Suvi unravel is fascinating. Just so many layers of "finding out" and a true reminder that these characters are level one babies. The music was fantastic, as always. Taylor, every time I think you've reached perfection, you manage to step it up the next episode!
at this point these shorter episodes––with excellent and human decisions that lead to awful consequences at these cliffhangers––stress me out so much that I have to wait weeks between episodes so I can do them 2 at a time... it's just too much for me lol
Loved the episode! Got glimpses of the children’s adventure Suvi in this. Everyone really is doing such a fantastic job!
The witch's name is Ame...
BRENNAAAAAN how am I supposed to wait two weeks to hear this conversation-
I'm so deeply invested in Steel talking to Ame now
Would love longer episodes! 2hr minimum would be great!
The audio edit of Brennan as Orima and that voice sliding ear to ear on bone conducting headeset was intense.
Also seeing as it’s kinda Ame’s fault for Suvi not following Steel’s orders I’m kinda excited/hoping that at the top of next episode we get to see Ame absolutely chewed out by Steel
The Fox ran off tho and Ame was looking after him. They've shown they're willing to split up, Suvi and Eursolon didn't have to follow her. I actually kinda think Ame would've had an easier time with Orima solo but I'm excited to see the fall-out
Not Suvi going full Karen this episode
Aabria is fearlessly willing to push her PC way past the line. Maybe too much for me? I need to invest in Suvi at least a little bit!
Suvi saying “you get what you get” about spirits entering the mortal world, oh my god I know she didn’t mean it but she didn’t *not* mean it and that made me furious Aabria is killing me!!
Brennan catching the comment midair and making sure Ursalon was OK hearing it…
I wanna cry. Oh, damn. Steel's shouting made me incredibly anxious. Bravo for playing, how you all are playing it. My heart is pounding and I will go cuddle my partner now.
@Aabria This was my “actor’s nightmare” of city guard encounters. I always get incredibly anxious playing a game and this scenario shows up. I know Suvi is freaking out by how were you feeling by the end of this?
I haven't had such a strong reaction to a cliff hanger in maybe ever!! So anxiously awaiting the next episode. Also Aabria's dice really said "NO, AND" xd
Brennan as Steel was so intimidating and gave me a lot of anxiety. Next episode is going to be rough going since honestly what needs said is not for public consumption
This episode just sped by. Not just due to its actual temporal length but because each scene was amazing and enthralling and we just bounced from one to another without a lull in amazement and attention.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH every single word from Steel had me lookin like the friend of the kid that's currently getting cussed out by their mom in front of ERRYBODY deng! This episode was guuuuud!
Everyone is amazing, and the characters are so good; this episode STRESSED me out lol
I can't be the only person who thinks these episodes are too short, can I? Just as something is starting to happen, boom, it's over.
I think this one in particular felt very short.
As much as it’s probably deserved, it is genuinely soooo stressful whenever Suvi faces citadel consequences
SO MUCH EMOTIONAL WHIPLASH! Omg I REALLY hope Steel has some sympathy especially knowing that she went to save a friend! OMG Aabria! What happened?!?! The dice wanted this story told
Well at this point, Steel doesn't know what's happening, at all
Aabria, dedicating herself fully into her character. I can't believe she made the guard interaction more difficult than the literal spirit who actually would've killed them. I love her so much! Now if only her own dice loved her back!
Ok that interaction is PRECISELY why Suvi acted like that
I felt the blood drain from my face when they pulled the “shape” out of the carriage. I love Steel but also she scares the hell out of me. I have to remind myself that Brennan and Aabria are playing characters and he’s not ACTUALLY yelling at/scolding her. The Empire’s theme is SO GOOD, Taylor’s sound design is amazing. And the THE BOWL. I immediately started crying. Ugh… The dice are telling a hell of a story and so is the cast! Now I’m going to go find a happier point in the plot so I can get scary, angry Brennan voice out of my head…
The swiftness I went to Spotify when I saw the email!! The sound, score and effects have ruined all other podcast games for me.
Holy shit the audio mixing or whatever that is called that made it feel like Orima was all around me!!! Incredible
This was such a good episode! As much as Suvi pisses me off, I absolutely adore how Aabria is playing her. They are all informed character choices and I can’t wait to see how the rest of this “conversation” with Steel goes. The only downside of this podcast is that I have to wait two weeks for the next episode lol. Time to jump into Erika’s one shot to hold me over.
I don’t get that vibe from Steel and I honestly don’t want that to be the case just for Suvi’s sake. If this is how she is reacting by fucking up and upsetting Steel, I don’t think she would survive if Steel turned out to be her parents killer.
Suvi's relationship to power and vulnerability is an incredibly relatable representation of personal and institutional trauma. Ame is more of-the-world but also has the naivete of a small town kid. Eursulon has arguably the most worldly experience but is a terminal outsider. What aspects of these inflection points between institutional maturity, personal maturity, and interpersonal maturity are the most fun for y'all to play with?
These past two episodes have been quite bone-chilling and the music has been phenomenal! The dice do in fact giveth and taketh away.
Taylor is a magician.
Also handsome!
These rolls oh God 😭😭😭
What a fucking ROLLER COASTER! I was shaking by the end, fucking iconic yall
You aint seen nothin yet
I loved Suvi absolutely unraveling!!! 🤣 Oh how I wanted to hear past the end of this episode
I just finished listening to the episode...WOW. Chills. It's AMAZING. I'm going to be thinking about this for the next two weeks.
What did Aabria do to upset Dice Christ like that?! (Great episode. Very stressful having to wait for two weeks to find out what happens next!)
I'm glad y'all exist
Back at ya ;) -t
