Blansky's Beauties
Not Garry Marshall's first flop (that's another story) but his first BIG flop after becoming ABC's Golden Boy...
This week it's 1977's "Blansky's Beauties" starring Nancy Walker, Eddie Mekka, Pat Morita, and Scott Baio. A show that might have survived if they hadn't tried to make it a spin-off from "Happy Days."

Also forgive me for the late payment today! My debit card expired and I completely forgot to switch it with the new card.
No mention of Walker directing Can't Stop the Music? I admire your restaint.
The opening credits were kinda fun, with Nancy Walker riffing on her size compared to the models. As for the time frame, well, I kinda thought the Happy Days milieu pretty much made its period settings irrelevant as all of the series continued running (especially Laverne and Shirley). Mork & Mindy was officially a spinoff of Happy Days (as was Out of the Blue), but both seemed to be set in the present. So, what can you do? Nancy Walker's last role was in the Fox sitcom True Colors about an "interracial" marriage, which lasted a couple years. She died shortly after the final episode aired. A wonderful talent.
Nancy Walker already starred in two hit shows at the same time, but with this and her self-titled show she had another distinction: Being the lead of two tv series that both got canceled in the same season.
