Needs more Takka
I feel those feels, tho
My belief right now (subject to change) is that Liz is the new Corpse Witch.
She's an awkward kid who's not good at the social stuff. That'll happen sometimes.
Not painting a likeable Liz pic.
So, basically she's an asocial twat and for some reason doesn't want anyone to find out she's not doing anything while getting paid?
Is Liz using one of the new dark macbooks? Or a pc notebook running some linux configured to look like macos?
So Liz is basically Asuka Langley Soryu, got it!
More than anything I think Liz needs a hug (although she'd never admit it).
What I see is rather “what befell me must not befall you too”, i.e., Liz may try to warn Claire that Cubetown culture sucks your soul and energy but is somehow at the same time hard to let go of. IDK 🤷
Why am I now picturing Marten back in CoD saying "And I alone returned to tell you."?
ahh, I think I see what's going on, she's incredibly gifted but cube town provided no direction to her, she's done nothing during her stay and is afraid that, should claire become the librarian, her failiure to produce work will be exposed, instead of the more likely option that she will be given direction and find a way to her job more easily, she's locked herself into a corner and burned her social bridges out of a misguided misanthropy and now is terrified of the concequences
Looks like you called it.
I suspect that Liz was poached in the same manner as Claire, but instead of asking questions about her role, just rode along with it until she was given her office. It would be curious to know what Liz specialises in, and how relevant it is to her role in Cubetown.
This is like me with knitting…fake it ‘til you make it.
The Mad Knitter
Hmm. Several folks are guessing that Liz’s motive regarding Claire will be revealed to be about self-preservation, about not wanting a lack of actual work on Liz’s part to be revealed. This is definitely a strong possibility and the most direct line from the flashback to the present day, but I can’t shake the feeling there’s more to it than that. I’m hoping that Liz is motivated by something other than self-interest, and that there are bigger issues on hand. In any case, I’m looking forward to finding out. :-)
My understanding is that Liz is a child prodigy who has spent her life being guided and directed and told that she is destined for Great Things by parents and educators who genuinely wanted to help this brilliant child achieve her full potential. Cubetown is the first time that she has had the chance to decide what she wants to do for herself, and she obviously has no idea. Admitting that she needs help would be a betrayal of all the people who believed in her, and the more time passes, the harder it is to speak up. Now everyone is going to find out anyway!
I've had jobs like this where they hired me and then didn't know what to do with me. I just wandered around until I found somebody doing something I thought was interesting and helped with that...
That’s just random keystrokes on the monitor. Is she faking it?
It *might* make sense to the Director.
What's with that door handle? Is that a 12 foot door?
Wheelchair accessible?
Honey...
Liz is really gonna struggle to use that coat rack
It looked shorter in the prior comic
I'm getting as impatient with this flashback as Marten must be right now. Just another 'gifted child' who does better in academia than anything resembling real life.
People in academia are as real and as alive as all the other people in the world.
Things are starting to add up now.
I've had jobs like this. I've also had worse though...
I mean, Liz needs a therapist, sure, but I'm growing more and more convinced that CUBETOWN needs a therapist. Probably a battery of therapists, heavily supplied, with plenty of backup, and a safety barge to retreat to when needed.
So is this the million monkeys with a million typewriters scenario?
Yes, only instead of works of literature, they eventually produce the entire catalog of The Monkees.
Ah! It just happened to me too. I was replying to Mooster and my comment appears threaded under emmavoid. Also using Android
Oh wow, did you just unify Quantum Mechanics with General Relativity? Should I make a copy of this? Nah, no need, Patreon comments truly are the height of proper data storage.
fast forward to it turning out that Liz's keysmashing has been inadvertently powering the majority of Cubetown's progress
I am not warming up to Liz yet. We'll see!
My initial assessment of her really hasn't changed at all, what a surprise.
Are anyone else's comments consistently being threaded incorrectly in this post? One worked fine, but when I try to reply it ends up under the wrong post. Android app
I've seen that using the app, but when I checked in browser it was in the right place.
I think Moray is just a *little* too cheerful for Elizabeth.
The paralyzing weight of expectations, even knowing full well you're competent enough to meet them if you can just put the work in, is a feeling I know all too well. The question is, is she worried for herself being revealed to have let down the expectations she believes others have for her, or hoping to avoid a similar fate for Claire as everyone expects her to fix this impossible mess? Or both?

I feel bad for Moray. 😟
I feel like the more we learn about Cubetown and its denizens, the further it moves from "free-spirited wackiness zone" to "scarily dysfunctional clusterfuck." I'm curious if it's just me being grumpy or if others are getting that vibe as well.
That tends to hold for reality too, IME.
Is she just annoyed at Claire's competency? I can't see do far why she would object to Claire being librarian.
If Claire becomes the librarian she will be responsible for organising the data produced by Cubetown's scientists, and will presumably realise that Liz hasn't done anything since she arrived.
Could she be responsible for the lack of progress in Cubetown?
The impression I got was that Cubetown is making tons of progress, just not necessarily in a measurable direction.
I think she sees "Librarian of Cubetown" as an empty position like hers. She could go around just making up shit to do and finding something to experiment on but she already pushed away Moray and she thinks everyone will treat her like a child. Impostor syndrome strikes again.
Research be like that.
So, "Liz" it is.
liz has contracted Goblin Syndrome from marigold I see
Sooooo She doesn't want Claire to be librarian because someone will finally realize that she hasn't done anything, because she hasn't asked for help or direction?
Why not both?
So she's worried Claire will ruin it for all the freeloaders?
At risk of being mean. I must ask how this is Claire's problem? Like taking the job out from under Claire is not going to assuage your insecurity or fix your situation, my guy.
I'm sure we're getting to that part
So Elizabeth is typing gibberish on a (I'm assuming) networked computer. So the Director can see what she's doing........
Unbeknownst to her, that gibberish was key to most major breakthroughs in the last 2 years. It took the Director to see it!
Elizabeth should memorize "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" for occaisions like this.
That's some impressive gibberish ya got there.
Being Cubetown, it's authentic maritime gibberish
This feels sad and also on her
Feelin fine.
Oh, that’s a relief.
The imposter syndrome is real
My thoughts exactly
