In David Brin’s Uplift-universe, humans are counted among the patreons because they used genetical engineering to turn chimpanzees and dolphins into intelligent and sentient beings. This saves them from being regarded by the older patreon races as raw material for genetical engineering. I wonder if the intelligent and sentient AIs of the QC universe created using electrical engineering and a lot of coding would humans also grant the status of a patreon race. I ask myself this question even more so, given that the Director and the Morays are clearly organic beings.

Aw ... I think my "That's a Moray" verse got hidden :( I didn't realize it was going to trip any moderation sensors.

M
Mark Eichin · September 28, 2026

I don't think we've got *any* useful idea of why (or how) comments get hidden (though I saw at least one joke earlier that maybe the moderation didn't like the song-puns in particular, I think you're not the first to lose one...)

The speed at which Moray switches gears, she’s lucky she doesn’t drive anything with a manual gearbox!

D
Dany · September 28, 2026

I guess that answers my question from a few days ago. Our Moray is definitely a special one, not like any of the other Morays.

Dean Reilly · September 28, 2026

Are Crabitha and Stabitha related?

B
Bookbeard · September 28, 2026

They are triplets, along with Black Slab Emitting A Low Hum, who is actually named Slabitha if anyone had ever bothered to ask!

J
Joseph Bonnar · September 28, 2026

We need a full page picture of Crabitha now.

legobil · September 28, 2026

Inside the reactor core.

"Can't I have just a *little bit* of peril?" "No, it's too perilous."

A
Andrew · September 28, 2026

“So uh Liz, you should really get tested. The Geiger sensors here haven’t worked since The Incident”

l
lbsa71 · September 28, 2026

All eventually becomes crab. Convergent evolution.

C
Captain Button · September 28, 2026

Isn't that how "Crab Girlfriend" started?

C
Chris Warren · September 28, 2026

Damn, Moray's getting awfully introspective lately. I hope everything's okay. Also, wouldn't the radiation kill off her plankton or turn them into giant monsters or something?

B
Bookbeard · September 28, 2026

Yes, but they'll only be giant by plankton standards. About the size of a hamster. Moray will keep them as pets.

V
Vilinda · September 28, 2026

I'll be friends with someone violently radioactive!

l
legobil · September 28, 2026

But not for very long….?

M
Mad Marie · September 28, 2026

(sings) "It was Crabitha all along!"

P
Packy Anderson · September 28, 2026

I just want to say I love the name "Crabitha".

j
jonesnori · September 28, 2026

It reminds me of Stabitha (aka Swordsmary). Maybe they're related.

r
rThunderbolt · September 28, 2026

Kinda sick of Liz. She's always mean and mad in a shitty mood and the times that she's not is when she's happy about doing shitty things or treating people poorly

S
Stephen Wells · September 28, 2026

We have just had the arc in which she learns to direct her powers for good, releasing Phoebe and getting Moray the help she was too diffident to ask for. I don't think we would have a lot of story if all the characters just flitted about like perfect butterflies.

C
Carl Fink · September 28, 2026

My particular brand of brain would like to inform Moray that the reactor core would most certainly kill off her algal symbionts.

B
Bookbeard · September 28, 2026

That's real world radiation. Comic radiation turns people into monsters or superheroes. Occasionally both.

M
Miyaa · September 28, 2026

Perhaps the selfishness is that Moray does not share what she’s collected with the Director? Maybe Emily can find a way for Moray to exchange her data with the Director without having to lose her uniqueness!

B
Bookbeard · September 28, 2026

Isn't that just called "talking"? I think it's already been invented.

B
Bookbeard · September 28, 2026

But then nobody could hug her without a hazmat suit, and you know Moray wouldn't like that! https://www.questionablecontent.net/view.php?comic=5069

l
legobil · September 28, 2026

Heh. I hopped forward to Claire signing her contract. 1. The contract is hilarious. 2. Her signature is really stylish and good looking!

P
Paul Britt · September 28, 2026

Have we met Crabitha before?

W
William Cole · September 28, 2026

Only by reputation. Never in the (highly irradiated) flesh.

A
AlexisLeBluer · September 28, 2026

At least we havebt reached crab battle level of crab, yet.

A
Alfonso Acosta · September 28, 2026

What If Moray just becomes peacefully in a sorta hippy kinda way radioactive?

t
totallySafeUsername · September 28, 2026

"Violently radioactive"

S
Sean Kinlin · September 28, 2026

Just call her Havok.

M
Mark N · September 28, 2026

Can't wait to see what kind of a robot beast Crabitha is like. I know a crab but there is so much leeway in that for a design

S
Sean Kinlin · September 28, 2026

🎵 When the reactor core Is her playground no more That's a Moray!

S
Sean Kinlin · September 28, 2026

Depending on how hot the core is, Moray might have a literal meltdown. 😬

C

Can I be nonviolently radioactive and still be friends?

W
William Cole · September 28, 2026

You can do a little alpha decay. As a treat.

C
Cory Rowley · September 28, 2026

When you're jealous of a crab And won't rejoin your dad? That's a-moray!

Carcinization and carcinogenic environments

S

Crabitha loves the power plant, but has an aversion to drawn butter. You win some, you lose some.

Ghee whiz!

B

Aw, Liz admits they're friends!

W
William Cole · September 28, 2026

Don't point it out to her! She'll be mortified.

J
Jose Alfredo Villalobos · September 28, 2026

Setting boundaries as healthy for any friendship. However, she might need to keep a Geiger counter on hand.

V
ValdVin · September 28, 2026

If this were anyplace but Cubetown, a crab playing in a reactor core would be the start of a horror movie.

J
James Anthony · September 28, 2026

I mean, it could be here too

A
Andrea Andrew · September 28, 2026

Crab is delicious.
