I'm fairly clueless on these matters, but even I have enough wherewithal to know better. He's been with Marigold long enough to know she's got insecurities so while it's good to be honest he could've been more diplomatic in this situation.
This is his first serious (if not first at all) relationship, though, so he's still prone to plenty of fuckups.
This strip makes me think I could make a fortune, or at least provide a valuable public service, by transporting myself into the universe of QC and establishing the exclusive Clue distribution franchise. But then I'd probably starve in obscurity, because the characters who are most in need of Clue probably wouldn't be able to find one with both hands, a flashlight, a GPS, a copy of CLUE FINDING FOR DUMMIES and a big flashing neon sign that said FREE CLUES RIGHT HERE.
Sigh. How about we just ship some flying Roombas. Can we do that?

Yeah, Dale is earning a long string of fails when it comes to 'reassuring banter'. Unfortunately, sometimes direct honesty is not the best policy.
Direct honesty is the best, hands down. But there’s a way to approach it carefully and with the other person in mind. Dales intentions here are golden, but she already thinks he’s cheating/likes Emily, so he needed to quash that first then deal with the jealousy
