The ending of this movie reeked of a post-production salvage/butchering. Creasy's reunion with Sam was so low voltage too. I presume that Scott Glenn was acting opposite a double in that closing long shot.
Someone actually compiled the Wolfie bits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IparfSxdy8s
Danny Ayello’s chef d’œuvre was the hitman in dumb and dumber because I watched that countless times as a kid
After Papa Don't Preach, Danny Aiello decided to tell Papa's side of the story in his own self financed response song Papa Just Wants The Best For You. Definitely worth a watch https://youtu.be/1xg11hwVs-M?is=uu11cOElGqoAtBNf
Ben you do suchhhh a spot-on Scott Glenn impression😂😂!👏🏻
Based on how ridiculous the book got towards the end I could picture Segal in this role. borderline nebulous past as a mercenary, everyone he meets hyping him up as a savior, weird relationship with young girl. The pieces were there
You don’t need to go to Mexico to get a butterfly knife. Just go outside of California if you want to fulfill your movie need knife fantasies. I bought the one I have at a cutlery store in Oregon. I found a store in Arizona that had switchblades, brass knuckles, nunchucks, butterfly knives, etc. 12 year old me would have lost my mind.
Dad of twin girls (not identical, don’t worry). My wife had em on her side but it wasn’t on our radar at all.. however, it is only inherited through the mom’s side… I say this because I know that’s the only thing holding Rodge back from siring young ones
raced back over to say elvis’s dead brother was named jesse. fun scott walker song about him.
leaving a car parked in a traffic jam always stresses me out in movies. i was worried michael douglas was going to walk into frame with an uzi but then michael stipe started singing and I calmed down again.
I’d just like everyone to know that Val Verde HR is taking this matter seriously. We rubbed the blackface grease off Stanger’s face and it’s all good now.
What if I told you Anne Heche’s butthole was a weekly segment on Kevin Smiths podcast Hollywood Babbleon https://youtu.be/l1ovSo_faK0?si=2i879je6oVP9dyyg
I would give anything to have seen Joe pesci put down the guitar at the end of his freakout scene and say " I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet, but your kids are going to love it."
Enjoyed the film, but one of the movie logic things that really bugged me was: why is Creasy such a celebrity in the Italian press? Presumably the kidnapping took place over 3 days, and he’s a loner trying to hide and forget his past, but in the opening scene it’s front page news with reporters rushing to phones to report copy about this well-known famous former CIA agent like it’s the death of Lee Harvey Oswald. Odd.
buh buh buh barbecue!
i raced over here to write this: nyc saw the most homicides in 1991.
Speaking of He-Man, that new movie drops this week on Prime lol
Hey thanks for the shenanigans tip. Sticking to tomfoolery from now on.
I would watch Heat Too
One of my favorite jokes they ever did was "Coming this summer, Al Pacino is ...Cruising Again!"
Forgive me if this has already been done but speaking of Danny Aiello in failed 80s action movies I would love it if the Boyz did the Hard R Jackie Chan movie The Protector. Between my fading, jumbled memory and AI rendering most Google search pointless I kind of remember them talking about it as it is a Glickenhaus joint but that could be my early onset dementia
About halfway through I thought the Universal Soldier programming glitched when Rodgers realized they had been doing the “wolfie” bit for 10 years. Then Stanger deployed the “Russel Crowe threw a phone at a hotel worker” failsafe and I knew everything was back online.
Quid pro crow
Just started listening to the episode and I hope these guys shenanigans give me all the feels!
So in 2009 my girlfriend and her cousin’s girlfriend wanted to go see Where The Wild Things Are even though it looked terrible (and it was as bad as it looked) and so we took them to the theater opening day and were sitting there and who should walk in but Ryan Mother Fucking Gosling and he snags a seat a few rows in front of us and of course the girls get all wet willied and so mid movie I wake from my snooze and I have to pee so I head out to the restroom and when I come back in RMFG is headed out and so I just say to him that I really liked Half Nelson and he’s super nice. Anyway I saw The Odyssey cuz my son wanted to see it and it was so much worse than I would have expected. It’s at least as bad as Tenet and almost as bad as The Prestige.
wtwta is good :(
The boyz never sound older than when they’re describing people doing social media trends/memes like it’s a mysterious, obscure plagiarism phenomenon that they’ve uncovered and are exposing to their audience.
what are memes?
For the brief knife talk that came up it reminded of this insane police training called surviving edge weapons. Almost a full feature and starts with why humans made weapons and goes all the way to bikers have knifes laced into their hats to take off and throw. https://youtu.be/szClV6vUjIA?is=GNjB4RJ8OUZag353
Fun rewatch, had forgotten a bunch about it, including the weird sexual tension between Creasy and Sam (odd thing to forget but I think the Denzel version erased it for me). Bit of a mess (you have to wonder if there's an edit somewhere with more Pryce and Adams in it, what a waste!) but it looks pretty great, the locations really add a lot to the vibes too. I had also kind of forgotten how it takes place towards the end of Italy's 'years of lead', when the country was truly in a volatile and dangerous state. Almost difficult to grasp now that it's such a full-on touristy destination but those years were rough and so fucking violent. There's obviously a bunch of movies depicting that era, made both during it and afterwards, wiki lists a ton: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_about_the_Years_of_Lead_(Italy) Haven't seen that many, but Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion (1970) is fantastic, highly recommended.
French guys should never direct movies about Adult men watching over a teen girl.
Not to sound like some weird MAGA pedo-hunter, but WTF is the deal with that euro proclivity in film? She said she’s 12… Plenty of beautiful/sexy/interesting women in their 20/30/40s. Trying not to clutch pearls, but… it’s super weird right? Like NOT OK.
Nice episode, boyz! Living costs in Madison Wisconsin are nutzo, much like our neighbor Milwaukee. $2000 for a one bedroom apartment. Nowhere is cheap anymore.
I definitely thought the voice thing would come into play again and was blown away when it did not. So weird!
I was stoned so when the exact voice came out of his mouth I was like wait what the fuck is going on and had to rewind
I felt like Joe Pesci singing “Johnny B. Goode” tryin to get through this movie!
He made a rap album
Pesci looked like he was doing a Tony LaRussa biopic.
He was in a band in like the 60s it's crazy to see him in an outfit with a guitar from back then, Google it
I’ve got the weirdest Déjà vu that they’ve done this before. Eerie… Edit: they say there was another film where somebody is killed in a gay porn theatre. That must be it!
Shout out to John Leguizamo. From playing the Clown in Spawn to portraying Eumaeus in the mega-hit The Odyssey—I’m so proud of the guy.
He was great in The Odyssey
For anybody who thinks the Boyz are too intense about theater etiquette, wanted to relay this story: Saw Disclosure Day a few weeks ago, guy walks in with his family as the trailers are going, sits down right next to me. Then 5 minutes into the movie (not trailers, the actual movie) he gets out his phone and starts playing some stupid slots game. I wanted to punch him until my arms were tired…but managed to ask politely that he put it away. My point: the social contract has fully been broken.
Very Seagal of you to ask politely rather than ending his life then and there
Luc Besson did an uncredited rewrite on the Creasy/Sam relationship.
Thanks for singing the BBq song. I sing it all the time.
The new Masters Of The Universe is 100% comedy. And a good one too.. And as much as it hurts me to say - Leto is very funny..
It reminds me of the DnD movie that came out a couple of years ago, a straight comedy that wasn't sold as one.
oh shit!!!! Action Boyz on Fiiiiiiiiiiiiya!
