Big Jon is starting to sound like Brando
I've heard of Tim Anderson's Original Strength because Dan John always shouts it out. Crawls and rocking do feel pretty good. If you watch a Tim Anderson video, he will say something about moving your body the way it's designed and then he will look extra hard at the camera and say "and it WAS designed." I found some post on his website where he says his first move or reset came when a friend of his was having some physical problem and Tim Anderson prayed and God revealed a movement/therapy to him "Thelma" can be rearranged to spell "the lam"
ZZ Bottoms whose beards are fat women SENT ME out in public
"My Own Private Mandela Effect: The Ryan Stanger Story"
The video thumbnail of buff bagwell talking about choosing to have his leg amputated is funny in a perverse way. I mean the whole video that Maven Huffman did of it with him is too
Adding humorist Dave Barry to the weird hair guy conversation. Kind of a proto-Ken Burns
Then Jackson Browne arrives “Weird Hair Guys Assemble!”
I was so bummed watching The Grey when they didn't actually show Liam fighting the wolves with his bottle fists.
lol yep! Remember they even had that shot in the trailer, like, you’re definitely seeing this in the movie! And then it just fucking ends. Fucking CGI wolves. I saw Motor City tonight and while it was fun there was a shot with such bad cgi blood / gore that it immediately made me sad.
Rodgers would have loved to see the lady updating her LinkedIn profile during The Odyssey with the brightness cranked to 100 when I went last week, cinema isn't dead after all
As a newer listener, I listen to the episodes all over the place, usually just go by whatever I can find on my streamers. So listening to old eps and then newer eps, I will say, I do miss stanger bot and stanger gorgon. Sorry Ben.
Forever in our hearts. Sometimes I’ll just say “by your command” to myself in various ways. It’s important that the memory lives on
This is one of the few movies the Action Boyz have discussed that passes the Bechdel test—this and “Deathstalker”.
I was in a real crummy mood up until the Mark Davis hair discussion. Now I’m laughing in the pouring rain.
Idk going from high stress/anxiety to relaxation with deep breaths + slow movements sounds like a sudden change in BP
Love when the ActionBoyz cover a female led movie
If want to get your Tai Chi on in the comfort of your own home. I can’t decide what is sexier, the smooth jazz soundtrack or David Carradine’s voice over https://youtu.be/oFdTJ6uA4OA?si=HA87YZnJA_srzpxC
I like the way you incorporated the martial arts into your need for a 9V battery tonight.
I'm definitely the kind of person who would get humbled in a tai chi class and get told to go home. This episode saved me a learning experience
I love when Harvey and Toblowsky are running in from the rain and race and start giggling, obviously unscripted
Part of me wants to tell the story about the time I kind of met Don Cheadle and couldn't think of his name but I'll stick to something more important. Do we think Stanger still uses Fat And The Moon deodorant?
I tried seeing this in theaters once during an anniversary screening of the film. A thunderstorm must have happened when the film was being downloaded/ingested via satellite, so the movie was missing the entire middle part. My friend and I saw the intro and the end 😤 hence the importance of physical media!!!
I could totally see passing out from that tai chi move. Slowly twisting your core while bending and holding - you must be pinching some major artery.
Glad you guys are covering this one. Can’t believe I never saw this until now considering I was 16 when it came out. I suspect that teenage me dismissed this one outright.
Stanger kind of touched on it a bit, but for a much deeper dive on the gender politics, reception, backlash and pop culture impact (and box office) Karina Longworth's episode on it a few years back is a great listen: https://www.youmustrememberthispodcast.com/episodes/thelma-louise-erotic-90s-part-4
Thelma and Louise… a love letter to smoke detector low battery alerts
Another Calendar Girl mention!
Gabrus really got me with “beautiful family,” that’s exactly the voice I hear it in when I see those comments on my mom’s fb posts
I’ll be that guy this episode but I can’t believe they even went back to the part where they rip it in reverse to the gas station and they still didn’t bring up the bodybuilder doing dumbbell curls with a dumpster fire in the background
Darryl is the Proto Danny McBride
Only unrealistic part of the story was the cops giving a single shit. Now you tell them some dude got smoked in a parking lot they'd go "damn that's crazy cya"
They care if it’s a white dude
My mom took me to this movie in theaters when I was 2 years old, because she wanted to see it and didn’t want to pay a babysitter. I obviously have no memory of this but it’s a story she always tells. “I didn’t know what it was going to be about.”
Took tai chi for like a year. The master I had was like a 5’3” guy who was 87 years old, eventually had to stop going because he just kept saying crazier and crazier shit about what he could do from tai chi. He said the chi had metastasized into his bones and he now weighed 300 lbs for example, I don’t think he weighted more than a hundred. Also he would move his hands around and tell us he could make chi visible and some people in the class were like “wow I saw him make an energy ball” he didn’t make shit lol. The exercise is great though if you learn the form you can just do it whenever you want; I still do it twice a day.
I really liked that all my good tai chi teachers were totally self-deluded psychos. And yeah, once you know the form you can do it for the rest of your life.
Never actually sat down and watched this, glad I did it was fun
I’ve ever been so mad at a streamers auto-play than I have been this one. The movie ends with the iconic Canyon jump and cuts to a fun montage and Tubi wasn’t even giving me time to process my easily manipulated tears before they’re like NEXT UP: TIMECOP IN FOUR SECONDS let me vibe for a second, damn it
still....good rec, tho
Anybody else catch the shirtless guy at the gas station doing bicep curls?
There’s almost always some kind of random flavor happening in the background, it’s a lot of fun
One of the Boyz needs to change the battery in their smoke alarm
Yep. That’s one of the most annoying sounds in the world.
great movie. so glad the boyz are covering it. and now for the re-watch
Black Rain, G.I. Jane and a couple others could probably classify as "If Ridley Scott did Tony Scott" too. Had the same thought while watching
Nice! This movie is great, and is super sexy. Also a sapphic anarchist movie starring these smoke shows, how could a trans girl lesbian not love this?
Love this movie, also Marge on the Lam is a top 5 Simpsons episode.
Asked a 30 year old if he knew the end of this movie already from references in other stuff and he said he hadn't even HEARD of it
Sticking together is what good waffles do
Hahaha Ken Burns getting a haircut. But yeah I hope Rodgers was kidding when he said he was up to 310 on bench. That made me a little sad. I got a long way to go to catch up to unc.
Haven’t seen this movie since it came out on VHS. Despite the clichéd way the T&L trope has wormed its way into our pop culture, a couple of times watching it yesterday I thought, “This is a great fucking movie!” Also loved the physical transformation they both make from almost 1950’s era meek to wild ABSOLUTE BADASSES by the end. By the time they blow up the trucker dude’s rig their look really had me going… Smoke dot show
Ended up scrolling through Craigslist looking for 1966 Thunderbird convertibles…
This movie's so hot, and I'm glad I finally watched it.
