THIS IS A FRAUDULENT WEBSITE WARNING AND A RANT. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE LACK OF DECO- NO, I DON'T. YOU'LL SEE WHAT I MEAN...

So, I'm typing up my project post for CurseForge for the Better BuildBuy neurodiversity patch and I accidentally DuckDuckGo my Patreon post instead of opening it in a new tab.

Lo and behold I see an odd result titled "CurseFire"...

... the !@#$ is this? When did CurseForge rebrand?

[5 SECONDS LATER]

They haven't, so what the !@#$ is this?

CurseFire is "scraping" the CurseForge website and duplicating project webpages, offering only one option to install via the "CurseForge app".

A simple search tells me that CurseFire has been around for at least TWO (2) years. I wonder how many people have accidentally used it thinking it was CurseForge in that time.

Can't do nothing 'bout a copycat website but can fund a "war"...

I suppose it's one of those "well if you don't know how to spot a fake website, that's your problem" type things that we tell ourselves to absolve ourselves from having any responsibility to one another.

I started a list of suspicious and/or fraudulent websites and Patreon accounts, etc. during our first MALWARE INCIDENT. Maybe I ought to revive it and keep it here on Patreon. Who knows, it might benefit someone some day.

BUT WAIT, WE AIN'T DONE!

I thought I was done complaining about Better BuildBuy.

I popped into the TMEX Discord and notified them of the patch and suggested the thing about editing their old posts, y'know... For Reasons™.

Then I popped over to CurseForge to type up the project page for the patch and I go to link Better BuildBuy's CF page, when in Rome and all that jazz, only to realize that the CF listing for BBB is OUT-!@#$ING-DATED.

This is the last time I will talk about BBB.

I've said before, I have a lot of respect and regard for other members of the modding community, TwistedMexi included - for their knowledge and experience and capability - and I know we're all dealing with our own !@#$, but maybe I'm not as much of a mess as I thought I was where posting my stuff is concerned? Not perfect, certainly, but I can ease up on myself now and then.

I started typing this, took a nap, and my cat woke me up after 4 hours... 💤
