🎁 [BG+] String Overrides - Strings, baby! Strings!

Two years later, we've still got dozens upon dozens of Strings that are still using incorrect coding for pronouns. On top of that, we've got Strings that sound like they were written by the most rudimentary AI in existence... or just someone bored out of their mind.

This is a side project, meaning don't expect regular releases. If I notice something off, I'll override it, however 💜 I TAKE REQUESTS. If you see a busted String and want it fixed or just want to report it, you're welcome to let me know. All I need is a partial quote of THREE (3) or more "significant" words - heck, sometimes TWO (2) "significant" words will do and if it ends in a punctuation it's even better.

Individual Strings aren't difficult or time consuming to fix as long as you know what you're doing.

⚙️ These are .ZIP archives. 🗂️ Windows Explorer on Windows and 🎭 Finder on Mac can open/extract them. Place the extracted folder/files into your Mods folder.

Some of my "LICENSE: 2 KILLS" Drama Node Overrides nuke the instances where some of these Strings appear, e.g. "CondolencesOnDeath" and "CongratsOn[X]" are nuked by "sej_DrNOvrd_EP02_CongratsOn_[...]" and "sej_DrNOvrd_EP02_CondolencesForDeath_[...]" respectively.

The EIGHT (8) alphanumerical characters in the filename is the "FNV32" identifier for each String. It's a modding thing. You can ignore it.

I 🦄 keep all of these things in my Mods folder. There's no reason for me to ever remove them but maybe ❓ some are too sassy for you?

⚔️ PRONOUNS! - [merged - unreleased]

🦄 sej_STROvrdMERG_English_BG_PRONOUNS_[...]

• To be clear, my override replaces the majority of "He/She/They/Custom" coding with simple "They/Them/Their/etc." neutral vocabulary. The only time I will keep "He/She/They/Custom" coding is if the sentence is jam packed with pronouns and "They/Them/They/etc." starts getting repetitive - at which point I might just re-write the whole String.

• There are currently around 99 Strings in this but that figure is likely to increase as I adjust my search criteria. EAxis has an annoying habit of doing "{M0.He}{F0.She}" here and "{F0.She}{M0.He}" there, meaning I have to search twice for every combination just to find all instances of it. I'll release this in stages. When I'm done with these 99, I'll release it. When I finish the next combination, I'll push it in an update.

• "Ghost {M1.him}{F1.her}." - This is fixed in my "PRONOUNS!" override, but this is a special standalone override that overrides my override. - "Ghost their ass!"

• "I heard about the passing of someone special to you. I wanted to offer my condolences." - Too stiff. - "I heard what happened and I wanted to offer my condolences."

• "I heard you and {1.SimFirstName} started dating! Congratulations on landing a new partner!" - My new partner is neither a plane nor a job, IT'S YOUR DA- lo siento. 😹 - "I heard you and {1.SimFirstName} are dating! Congratulations!"

• "Congratulations on getting married to {1.SimFirstName}! I hope you two are very happy together." - Not passive aggressive at all! - "Congratulations on getting married! Here's to a long and happy married life!"

• "Congratulations on getting that big promotion at work! You deserved it!" - Eh, just because. - "Congratulations on the big promotion!"

──── ⋆⋅🎙️ YOU HEARD THEM SAY IT.

I have a TWO (2) in English, which is my jokey way of saying I'm not an expert because it's neither a ONE (1) nor a "distinction". My grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation, etc. is sometimes !@#$ed up, but even I understand how to use THEY/THEM/THEIR, etc. in a sentence and/or when referring to a person or a group of people. We learned this !@#$ TWENTY-SOME ODD YEARS AGO in PRIMARY SCHOOL, long before gender neutral vocabulary became a "hot topic".

Here's an example of how EAxis over-complicated this in the first place:

• {1.SimFirstName} sure knows what 1️⃣ {M1.he}{F1.she} is doing when it comes to interior decorating! The remodeling job that 2️⃣ {M1.he}{F1.she} did for {0.SimFirstName} was outstanding.

• {1.SimFirstName} sure knows what 1️⃣ they're doing when it comes to interior decorating! The remodeling job 2️⃣ they did for {0.SimFirstName} was outstanding.

How about something a little more complex:

• {0.SimFirstName} notices that {1.SimFirstName} is beginning to look a little pale. 1️⃣ {F1.She}{M1.He} is terrified of Ferris Wheels and 2️⃣ was too embarrassed to say anything. Does {0.SimFirstName} try to tell some jokes to distract 3️⃣ {F1.her}{M1.him} or 4️⃣ does {F0.she}{M0.he} attempt to assuage 5️⃣ {F1.her}{M1.his} fear with some comforting words?

• {0.SimFirstName} notices that {1.SimFirstName} is beginning to look a little pale. 1️⃣ They're terrified of Ferris Wheels and 2️⃣ were too embarrassed to say anything. Does {0.SimFirstName} try to tell some jokes to distract 3️⃣ them or 4️⃣ do they attempt to assuage 5️⃣ their fear with some comforting words?

I appreciate that some folks understand how this works and try to explain it to others whenever this topic comes up but most of this is unnecessary. If we didn't insist on shoving gendered pronouns everywhere to begin with, we'd not have so many String errors now!

• While meditating, {0.SimName} was able to soothe 1️⃣ {M0.his}{F0.her} nerves from making a new enemy. 2️⃣ {M0.He}{F0.She} decided to not let the negativity bring 3️⃣ {0.SimPronounObjective} down.

• While meditating, {0.SimName} was able to soothe 1️⃣ their nerves from making a new enemy. 2️⃣ They decided to not let the negativity bring 3️⃣ them down.

This isn't rocket science. It's basic !@#$in' English.
