Walking Mod v2.2 - Your phone is the camera (WiFi or USB), with a live viewfinder (Android)

Update, October 2026: this version is retired. The Walking Mod now installs and updates through the russozl hub, attached to this post. Run it, sign in with Patreon and click Install. It finds the copy you already have and keeps your presets.

This is the phone camera update, ready to test. Your actual phone becomes the camera inside the game. You hold it, point it where you want to look, and the in game camera follows your hand. It feels like filming for real instead of dragging a mouse around, and now the game streams onto the phone screen so you can frame the shot looking only at the phone, like a real camera monitor.

What is new

- Phone as camera, driftless. Point the phone and the camera follows. Left stick walks, right stick turns your body, so you never have to spin the phone around.

- Live viewfinder. The game shows up inside the app, behind the controls, so you film without looking at the monitor.

- Connect by WiFi or USB. Your pick, in both the app and the mod. USB is the most stable if your WiFi is busy.

- Track button fixed. Tracking no longer forces roll onto the horizon, and when you let go the camera stays exactly where it was so your movement carries on from there.

- Smooth like a mouse. Render rate interpolation kills the old stepping without throwing away any of the motion you made.

- Reworked controls. Buttons wrapped around the sticks, pinch to zoom, a drag and drop layout editor, and a guided setup that maps the axes to any phone.

If it lags the moment you record

The viewfinder can now encode with NVENC or on the CPU. NVENC shares the encoder with OBS and ShadowPlay, so if the game stutters when you hit record, switch the capture to Software and it frees the encoder. There is also a Low mode for weak WiFi.

Honest limitations, please read

- Android only for now. The app is native Android, iPhone is coming.

- The Play Store and App Store versions are close. For the moment it is a sideload.

- Latency depends on your WiFi. USB is the most stable link.

- The app is locked to my mods, Walking Mod and Mobile Cam, so it cannot be reused as a camera for other apps.

Found a bug, or have an idea

Quick heads up, this went out after very few tests, so it is normal if you run into bugs. If something breaks, do not panic, it is not your fault and nothing gets lost.
