Regarding Derek and the future of the comment section
Hey friends,
We need to address the comment section on this morning's Derek reaction.
We'd like to set the record straight. After we quit Father Ted, we put the replacement up to a vote. Derek won fair and square. The number of votes it took to win far exceeds the 40 or 50 likes on the complaints we are seeing today.
A lot of people seem to think Ricky Gervais made this show to mock disabled people, and they are flooding the comments to let everyone know how upset they are by that. It feels like people are dropping these comments to farm likes and hijack the direction of this channel.
Let us be completely clear: that is never going to happen. We are not going to stop reacting to a show that the majority of you voted for just because a vocal group is upset.
We run this Patreon to provide reaction videos. We are not obligated to provide a comment section. We pay our moderators to keep things clean, but babysitting a hijacked comment section is not going to become a full-time job for them.
We do not want to do this, but if this behavior continues, we will simply disable comments across all of our videos. We are moving forward with Derek. The choice on how the community moves forward is up to you.
A final note on our channel goals:
At the end of the day, this is our channel. We are going to like and dislike things that many of you disagree with. We frequently get told by viewers to stop holding votes and just make our own choices. However, it seems like what some people actually mean is: "My show didn't win, and it doesn't look like it will anytime soon, so I'm going to leave negative comments on the videos I don't like, hoping that enough 'likes' will force Mike and Jess to listen to me."
If you are coming here just to voice your disdain about a show or a person, we highly suggest you go to Reddit. This is not the place for it, and we are not obligated to supply you with a platform for that type of negativity.
Our entire goal is to spread positivity and change perspectives. When people in the comments are actively sabotaging that mission, we will step in and protect what we have built.
We are keeping comments off on this specific post, but we hope this clears the air so we can all get back to enjoying the content together.
