Grading on a curve, A tier for season 1.
I gave this an A grade. A good follow up to the last episode. That episode was about Voyager getting technology from another race, this episode was about Voyager giving technology to another race. Also a rare solid episode for Chakotay. Speaking of black Vulcans, it is still crazy to me that some people back in the day actually complained about the casting of Tim Russ as a Vulcan because of his race. These would be the same sort of people who today complain about everything being ‘woke’. Of course the Internet was not well developed in 1995 and unless you were in Trek fan circles you probably wouldn’t even know that this was an issue for some people. I even remember someone calling him Tuvok Shakur (in reference to the popular rapper). Of course we had a black Romulan in TNG season 7 and Michael Dorn as the first black Klingon. It is one of those things that just doesn’t matter to me. I thought Tim Russ was great.
B tier. The handling of the catching her should have been something the audience was along for. "Oh hey off screen we did this ah ha!" The lead up is good, but that part just falls on its face.
Like this one more for the character stuff between Tuvok and Chakotay than the plot.
C. more annoying meh from Voyager
Its a great episode of Trek
It's an A for me just for having one of the best character twists in all of Star Trek. Good stuff.
I gave this a B, I am not sure that even the best of this show qualifies as an A. but there are entertaining episodes. That said, if I give "Mirror, Mirror" an S, this then cannot be as it is not as good.
S tier. My favorite season 1 episode.
Oh boy, this one was tough to sit through and it made me a little angry. IT's the dumbest most obvious mystery I can remember in Trek. The twist is there is no twist? Get the f word outta here! At least it's paced and acted well.
A solid episode. The only thing keeping it from being an S is timing. It would have been so much more of a gut-punch if we had gotten a chance to know Seska better before revealing she was a double agent. We knew her well enough to remember her name, but not much more than that. But aside from that small quibble, an excellent installment to an excellent first season
