I still like it on rewatches, but rewatching is a big part of my Trek experience
You worry too Much, Voyager get's better and better just like the other shows, it just starts off better and reaches greater awesome heights than TNG or DS9 (but i think DS9 was going for depressing lows).
I always connected more with the cast of TNG. All the shows had good and "weaker" episodes in every season, just the nature of grinding out so many episodes every year. Quality was always hit & miss.
Cardassian RATS, Federation RATS, Kazon ASS, OH MY Martha Hackett was also the Romulan in DS9's The Search part 1 & 2
FYI, Martha Hackett also played the Romulan in DS9's "The Search" part one and two.
Another thing I would point out about B'Elana's assertion about how long it would take to make the necessary preparations to retrieve the console is that when they execute the operation it goes perfectly smoothly. They are in and out with the console very quickly and without incident. That completely justifies her timeline to prepare for the operation, because it's rare that a plan in Star Trek goes off without a hitch like that.
Would have also preferred 'Bajoran' Seska being a returning character for longer - that one crew member who's feisty and always butting heads with Federation ideals. But can see how that would have worn out its stay after a while too, so not a bad idea to have her scarper off with her new biker gang friends.
Eh isn't that just repeating Kira and Ro beats?
Banger episode, as you would say. "Do not mistake composure for ease" has lived rent-free in my head ever since.
I would offer as an explanation for Seska that memory wiping for a Cardassian spy would probably depend on their job. For Kira's Cardassian double Iliana, her job was deep cover reconnaissance. She was supposed to learn everything she could by perfectly blending in and then report back when the time was right for her original memories to be restored. What if Seska's job was different? What if she was sent to the Maquis as a saboteur -- someone who could undermine them from within? For that job, she would obviously need her own memories to be intact.
